  • Fiesta time in the Philippines means one thing...
    Food, Food and More Food! I found myself in Barrio Baylao, Camiguin Island a day before fiesta. Roaming around Uncle Salio's house I began learning about Fiesta food preparation! Again this is another very raw video...
    I just spontaneously wandered around the property interacting with some of Kumars relatives and learning about what they were cooking/preparing. Of course that meant I had to join in as well :)
    I ended up learning about preparing "Baboy" (pig) and actually butchered the pig that was used to cook...
    ** Please note there is some meat preparation in this video, but I have left out anything that I think could be a bit "graphic" in regards to preparing the pig. I did butcher the pig with help of Filipino locals, but that again is an experience that I will not be sharing.
    This is a very raw look at some local Barrio fiesta food preparations! Imagine... the family spent 20 hours the day before Fiesta cooking non-stop! Why!? JUST TO GIVE TO OTHERS :)
    One day at a time, One fiesta at a time... #BecomingFilipino
    Super Apir!

    I never seen foreign people embraced our culture, like Kyle. This is how Filipino are, food, food , open loved to share to others. Kumar and JJ is your extended brothers, your always feel home. You make me missed much more to go home jump to the plane to be in my own country. I got to finished my master training+working at the same time. I want go to Palawan before the project 1 my house renovation and then explore somewhere and bisayas, mindanao before to start project number 2 (business) the land is on naic Cavite... I can't choose my battle. I don't think it, just do it. I explore the Philippines with my Family and Team. It very raw. It feel good to be a simple sometimes, but also good to have BOTH, so you can help who needed the most. ENJOY!! more FUN in the Philippines! With Love and Gratitude!----M

    This video made me remember the smoky aroma of bisperas ng fiesta back home in my mom's province. The meat grills..the burnt feathers of chicken or ducks.. the sound of chipping knives to boards.. the never ending chikahan of people while cooking and preparing foods.. thank you for this video kyle.

    thanks for this video Kulas, it just reminds me back in the days...every time me and my siblings having birthdays, our parents put a mark of a cross in our forehead using the animal blood being butchered either a pig or chicken. I'm not quite certain what the symbol is for, however it just reminds me of this video.

    • @gfdsa2866
      @gfdsa2866 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's really symbolic. it just goes to say that you and I (and everybody) are paid for (redeemed) in Blood. 'Buhay ang inutang Buhay din ang kabayaran'. Like being reminded of our Lord's sacrifice.

    • @gfdsa2866
      @gfdsa2866 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another one is more sinister. I was very young when one day my brother got sick. It was so bad that we already went to 3 local Doctors and one hospital. Nothing could make him well. We chanced upon 'somebody' in the area who knows some sort of 'alternative' medicine. He kept saying 'bati' and can't understand more since he speaks another dialect our family are just 'dayo' in the town. He performed rituals and a chicken was killed and blood was marked on his forehead, around him and to all of us. including me. Only then my brother got better.

    Brgy. Fiesta is one on the tradition that the Filipino takes from the Spanish colonial regime.
    Preparations is laborious but we believed...the more you share, the abundant blessings will return to us!
    So we usually butcher one pig during the celebrations.
    And besides, many Filipino held baby christening during fiesta para isang handaan lang. Tipid budget.
    And also, it is during fiesta na nagkikita kita ang mga kamag anak (sort of family reunion).

      Abroadero Ako I will always take the side of my filipino brothers who chose the traditional way of using knife in butchering pigs. But I would also like to encourage them to adapt to modern quick tools such as .22 pellet air gun shooting to through the back of the ears into the brain or if not available a big size nail and a hammer which I saw being used successfully on a cow. It makes it much quicker, less painful and easier for everyone.

    I was Born and Raised in Victoria British Columbia Canada and the higher educational studies University Of Victoria Is about 30 minute walk from my home. My wife and i have trained Human scent discrimination Bloodhounds for over 30 years. I should have contacted University security to have them open the main door, as the dogs would have pulled me straight to the dorm room. Our house was broken into and I used my dogs to track the person or persons and the dogs pulled me right one of the University dorms. I have used my dogs many times on tracks after my home was broken into and its interesting who's homes they pull me to. The question i have for you is what year did you leave Victoria and why? Thanks for your time.
