The reason behind so many sports being called football is actually pretty interesting. George Washington had written a few times in his diaries that his troops would often play a game of "wickets" in their spare time. The game is believed to be a form of cricket that was imported with the European settlers. This was long before baseball was developed and exploded in America.
Well if America had continued being under British rule like their neighbor up North (Canada) sports such as Rugby, Soccer and Cricket would have been popular imo.
Cricket isn't particularly popular in Canada now, AFAIK; but it continued to be popular in the US up until the civil war, when baseball took over because they could play it quickly and without carefully curated pitches.
Those sports became most popular in the 1990s onwards. Base that on Commonwealth immigration, cable/satellite TV, and the relative novelty of the World Cups. Canadian football is still more popular than Rugby, and arguably Soccer. MLS is an American league. Canada is still trying to popularize a sustainable domestic league of its own.
@@nac5901 Cricket isn't popular in Canada cause of American influence. But if it has remained popular in the US, then there's no foreign influence that would've displaced it.
If Bhuvan can learn cricket because he thought it is complex version of ‘gilli danda’ then Americans can definitely learn this ‘complex baseball’ game called cricket !! 😅
Indian here, US better not become a graveyard for other sports. Here already cricket and the sponsorship mafia monopolises the entirety of audience viewership popularity due to historical significance which attracts a huge investment and bidding that shaped into an intangible cultural habit. It has become difficult for another sport to sustain as the incentives are very low due to limited support which hinders our competing capability from the rest of world in different arenas. Just take an example, we didn't even had a swimmer qualifier for Olympics out of a BILLION people which tbh is a shame and highlights the volume of gross negligence for other sports profession. It is a serious issue here.
As someone who grew up in a nation obsessed with cricket, I can see a market for limited overs cricket. Test cricket might be a tougher sell. Aussie kids aren't as laser-focused on cricket and football ad they were in previous generations but the Subcontinent is about as fanatical as any sport could hope for. For strangers here. There are different types of cricket matches. Classic cricket the hardest is called the Test Cricket which lasts 5days. This is my favourite Then there's 50 overs ODIs. The last one is small format called t20s which r 20 overs
I do think think Cricket has the potential to become much bigger in the US if you look at history in the US, Soccer started becoming a big participation sport in the 70's until it leveled off in the 2000's when it started becoming big in most of the country if you did not fit the the big three athletically you did not play team sports Soccer changed that. The country has gotten bigger and now sports like Lacrosse , Rugby and Cricket can do the same as soccer did. Cricket and Rugby like Soccer also have the marketing advantage of being big globally.
If USA Enters Super 8 in T20 Worldcup 2024, USA will be Direct Qualifier for Worldcup Cricket 2026 (50 Overs Edition).... Keep Going Ahead USA.... Lots of Love from India🇮🇳
I believe Cricket will overtake baseball in America in the immediate future, and wouldn't be surprised if USA would win - both on the men's and women's ĺeagues. Team USA has been unstoppable so far, well done.
0:42 & this is it's first big chance to once again be a part of American culture. A media outlet can find even with a little google search that Cricket existed in USA since its foundation. It has had a strong presence from 1700s (before USA was founded) to early 1900s when it started declining which was made worse with the formation of ICC in early 1900s as they initially didn't allow membership to countries outside the British Empire like USA, Argentina, etc which was a death blow for the game in those countries. Membership was opened to everyone since 1965 but fhe damage was done in those countries with no possibility of repair. Now all those countries including Argentina are simply trying to revive the game once played widely there than it is now. This is just a new beginning which in Cricket we call a 2nd Innings.
Classic Pakistan though…one minute down, next minute up….I think they might make it all the way to the final(they did the same thing a year and a half back)!

While I'm happy CBS did this, I'm also annoyed they didn't put in a simple basic explanation of the game for a American audience. Basically its similar to a baseball game where instead of 9 innings, its one very big inning taking up the whole game. Both teams get as many runs during their turn before all their batters are out. The first team that goes builds their lead then the 2nd goes and tries to overcome that lead for the automatic win the moment they do.

Im so glad the Americans are loving cricket. Its truly a great sport and the the T20 format makes it appealing to the american market. Go go South Africa!
Not Americans . Just immigrants indians
too bad baseball is america's pastime cricket will never grow in u.s
Remember guys, American foot-ball 🏈 is played with hands!🤣🤣🤣 These guys are so genius!
and aussie football is played with everything haha
The reason behind so many sports being called football is actually pretty interesting. Football in its earliest form as mob football wasn’t called football because of the fact they used their feet but instead because it was a game for commoners and so instead of other sports that were played on horseback it was played on foot instead.
@@hillbilly3772 You are exactly right the feet are used constantly in American Football it is just that the hands are just as important if anything Association Football should be called kickball .
Pakistan successfully promoted cricket in the US🥴
Aren't you guys too late to Cover on this
Cricket is so popular internationally because it has always been an exciting game. About time that Americans started understanding this.
Cricket is anyday better than baseball 🙂
@@scott_mccQuite a few of them were immigrants who had already represented their nation in cricket. The Netravalkar dude played for India's Under 19 team. Corey Anderson was a part of the New Zealand cricket team. Andrew Gous was from South Africa. and a bunch of other players who were born in USA.

Cricket is for South Asian Americans who are becoming a sizeable community (plus a few Caribbean Americans)
Very different to soccer or rugby which have fans from all types of Americans and are not seen as an immigrant activity.
Cricket is an ad goldmine compared to football (soccer). Tv broadcasters in US should be licking their lips at the revenue potential
How they can generate big money with free to air viewers in india and Pakistan 😂

Less so with T20 - that’s much more smash it and see. But a finely balanced test match is all about strategy.

Good luck SA entered finals for the first time , tough luck but lost by our indians by giving tough fight not like some one lost to united states in t20 WC 2024
Even baseball is created by British not Americans It is just not popular in Britain
@@nac5901yes, exactly. It was popular till the mid 19th century.
Cricket is the greatest most entertaining sport in the world ❤🏏

Anything to get kids back outside playing and off the phones and internet, good job coach and all those involved
I wish them luck fostering a very different sport in the US.
Powerhouse Pakistan is a bit of an exaggeration. 😅
She should have said 2 time World CHAMPIONS in 1992 2009
@@aniket385 Yes, a correction - "Pakistan is one of the best team in sport". Only to novice first time players, in recent past of about a decade. In reality they are the minnows of professional International events right now. The true best teams are Australia, India, England, South Africa, New Zealand (these teams consistently feature in the finals of all major ICC events- Test Championship, 50 over WC, 20 over WC, Champions Trophy). Then there are teams like West Indies, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe- who pack a punch and probably would take a while to consistently win against the best ones. Then we have Ireland, Bangladesh, Scotland and Netherlands. Pakistan is their equivalent and have lost to all teams mentioned before, which the top tier teams haven't. So why are they glorified? Media frenzy (radical islamic-left connection) and overseas pakistan community have contributed to make the actual team larger than what they currently are. Hope that helps!
Yeah I think “Occasionally good usually due to raw but talented fast bowler but overall so incompetent match fixing can’t not be suspected” would be a far better description
death of test cricket is getting closer then before.
with a 30 sec break every 3 min cricket is a sport built for TV

I wonder what's the most popular sports of other Planets?
Mars - Muskolympics
Uranus - Diving?
For strangers here. There are different types of cricket matches.
Classic cricket the hardest is called the Test Cricket which lasts 5days. This is my favourite
Then there's 50 overs ODIs.
The last one is small format called t20s which r 20 overs
Americans played cricket many years ago. Educate yourselves.
Americans winning the T20 tournament would be hilarious but good for sponsors.
Its not boring as baseball
0:59 What a shot!! 😂😂😂 Who's coaching these kids?
Now, Crecket is not only a Sport anymore,
Its like a Culture of whole South Asia...
It is the only sport in south Asian countries who hype it a lot!
No, india's national sport is hockey. Pakistan's national sport is hockey.

@@manishchouhan5005 American is not a race. Once you get your citizenship, you're an American. My family's been in America for hundreds of years and I don't consider myself no more of an American than somebody who just got their citizenship last week.
