I have a Rolex Day-Date Ref. 18038 that used to belong to my late grandfather. I scrubbed and cleaned it thoroughly with a light toothbrush and some dish soap and it now looks a lot more fresh. No gunk or tarnish buildup on it anymore. All it needs is an overhaul as it’s been 45 years since it’s been serviced, and it’s running two minutes too fast as a result. I always clean my watches no matter how new or old they are. Nobody wants to see a fine watch covered in filth.
Watches the video a couple of times....please, tell me how the bezel has to be removed from the case. I am struggling like crazy on mine. Great video, awesome detailwork.
Other than changing the battery, my 24yr old Pulsar has never been in the shop, it keeps perfect time. I spray it with Lysol bathroom cleaner, rinse it with hot water and occasionally oil the bezel with a drop of Singer oil. Best Christmas gift my wife ever got me. In '98 it was about $200.
As a fellow Pulsar owner, they are accurate, reliable and long lasting - but people that go after high-end watches are buying the hand-wind chronometer engineering - they don't want quartz (even though the quartz is likely more accurate).
@@cahillgreg I agree with you but I could never spend more than $500 for a watch. Before my Pulsar, I had an 11yr old Timex Ironman. If it wasn't for the plastic buttons on it (cracked), I'd still be wearing it.
Oh I've got some Casio gold watch which hasn't been maintained probably since the day it was bought.... Quite old now, it's one of there where it charges itself when you move your hand (that thing that rotates as a dynamo on the bottom face of the watch)
As a watch enthusiast and watch maker I dont understand why folk dont wash their watches... They are almost every time really nasty and filled with gunk...
I have the same watch in bad condition but missing two of the four little hooks. Where are you located at? I really want my watch to get fixed. It's a gift from my grandpa.
I had my Rolex GMT II serviced after 12 years only because the crown broke and the watch stopped winding and or working all together. I purposely ask for no polishing only maintenance of the inner movement and replacement of seals, since the watch was worn as an everyday watch. If you look at my Rolex, you would never know is from 2005.
@@MontePego i only took it in because i broke the crown, they did a complete overhaul of all the seals and they replaced the crown and cleaned the internals. I did not have them polished the watch, they did offer to do it but i declined. Watch came back working just like when new. Your watch maybe need An overhaul after 20 + years of service
@@andrewallen9993 well, the reason why my crown broke was because i smacked my crown against a piece of metal, thus causing it to break. So that type of damage would be a result of my wearing the watch everyday. Vostok watches would not last 10 years trouble free, worst if I caused the damage.
I wonder how all that gunk gets into the watch. It seems like those areas would be sealed off. At least it doesn't get into the little clockwork gears and stuff.
Awesome video however I couldn't enjoy the audio as much as I think I could have owing to the use of a nighttime audio track with crickets.. Good ASMR potential if you loose that.
