A lot of harsh vocalists I watch interviews for are usually really calm, sweet, and well spoken people. It’s crazy to me that such nice sounding individuals can sound so cool and brutal in a metal band.
They need to go to Mike Flanagan. Flanagan has been called generic but his shit is generically scary as fuck. Haunting of Hill House being one of them. Give him five minute to 10 minute clips and a band like Ice Nine Kills and they could become the Queen…erm…King of Horrorcore.
Welcome to Horrorwood was the best jump scare. I’ve played it for friends and every time they jump. You start so soft and then BANG! Every friend has jumped. I love introducing ICE NINE KILLS to anyone I know that appreciates music horror and theater.
Ironically people think metal bands are Satanists and the worst people you'll ever meet when in reality they're some of the sweetest and calmest people you'll ever meet
My 61 year old mother went with me to see Metallica in august. Ice Nine kills opened for them (I already saw them when SS2 launched), and she didn’t hate them! She’s not a fan of (as Spencer said) “screamy music” but she never once said “I hate them”. She watches horror movies with me all the time, and I think that’s why she enjoyed herself. INK is really bringing different groups of people together!
I used to listen to metal in my teens and faded out of it, but I'm a huge horror fan and I had just started listening to INK a year ago, and they really put me back into the metal genre.
American Psycho 2 was also filmed in Toronto at the university I went to and it was weird watching the movie where they exit one door of a building and come out the door of a completely different location. Wonder if he visited there too.
I made up three tracklists for what their next three albums could be about and I never once thought of Dead Space, I’ll have to add that, thanks 🤣 btw I showed Spencer that list so if he uses some of them that’ll be sick
I had liked them before but I was with my gf at the time when that song became available and she’s not a metal fan. I didn’t know but it starts out really soft and pretty and she’s like “oh this is nice” then BAM it was right in your face heavy. Lol she was like wtf is this?! I loved it though
INK is actually what got me into horror movies!! I was just a metalhead who stumbled across Communion of the Cursed video and discovered a new band. It's been 1 and a half year and I've watched over 200 horror movies and tv series so far. So thank you guys!! Also your music is magnificent!! Keep up the good work, love you ❤️ 🔪
My wife has always been a big horror movie fan, and when we first started dating, had never heard metal. I took her to a spite show and then i went over to her place a week later and she was blasting the self inflicted album from chelsea grin! She ended up falling in love with creatures/reincarnate era motionless and then i took her to an Ice Nine show, and that sealed the deal. She LOVED the songs, production, and themes. To this day she doesn’t listen to a ton of metal (our lives have def changed over the last 5 years), but she still will throw on silver scream. Ice nine crushed the genre bend and getting people into this type of music and I’m grateful we have them 🙏🏻 Side note: connect the cuts still slaps almost 10 years later and is top tier metalcore
12:30.... Veil of Maya did something similar to this with "Outsider". They dont show the annotations, but they put up the final card during the outro-esque piano / synth part then come back for the big outro breakdown part.
I love that ghost inside pre breakdown sentence! It's such a mad vibe. I love this man he is horror obsessed the same way I'm like true crime obsessed. Admittedly INK have opened my eyes to a lot more horror shit.
Spencer is talking about Dan Watson. The song with the clock is Decapitation Fornication and Ice Nine Kills and Enterprise Earth toured together both as support for Chelsea grin in 2017!
I got to meet The Spencer a couple weeks ago at Spookala in Tampa. Such a humble and down to earth guy, who absolutely LOVES classic horror films. I was just sad I didn't get to do the VIP acoustic set they did on Saturday. Love the content Nik, great interview!
I know everyone loves their new stuff but I can’t recommend “predator becomes the prey” enough. It was the first album I heard of them and it’s still my favorite. It’s right before they went to the style they have now. Still heavy and amazing cleans
Saying to a fan of horror that they scared you hast to be the most beautiful compliment, just like when writers are told they make you cry or something like that 😅✨ Spencer must’ve been hyped for Nik freaking out xD
I was so tempted to see them when they opened for metalica, but i looked at my wallet and thought better of it, now its perfect because they are touring with two of my absolute top bands, and my college friends are coming too! i can't wait for the show
im taking a global horror film class at my university. during the icebreaker from the first class i told everyone about ink. i literally tell people even if you don't like heavy metal but you like horror films to give them a listen
It's hilarious that Spencer says, "People normally put on soft music to go to sleep to." Meanwhile, my ass is putting Ice Nine Kills on to get to sleep 😂😂
INK actually got me into the horror genre. Love the songs and got interested in watching those movies. Such a creative, fun, and amazing band. I recommend seeing them!
I'm in a really interesting boat as I don’t typically listen to metal or "screamy music", but I also am too much of a coward to watch horror movies. But my best friend sent me "The Shower Scene" after hearing it on the radio. Now INK is one of my favorite bands 😂 Also, I don’t think they'll ever do it, but I think it'd be really interesting to hear them do an album based on old fairytales
Been listening to ink since wayyy before every trick in the book. Its been a good time to be a fan on this journey. Glad to see them finally getting success they've deserved for so long 🤘
16:51 Can confirm, one of my best friends started listening to INK because he loves horror movies and now they’re his favorite band and he barely listens to anything metal. I played The Shower Scene and he was hooked
Spencer was having making Nik laugh and I’m here for it 🤣🥰 Thank you for uploading it the day the video was released ‘cause it feels like a gift, honestly ^-^ I had to work that day and missed the stream but it feels great to have this, thank you Nik ✨
All of the themes fit so perfect with the corresponding horror movie, can't lie, the American Psycho video is probably my favorite, specifically because of the breaking the 4th wall, also because of the "HEY PAUL!", it kills me every time and the most onnoxious laugh happens lol. I've known about Ice Nine Kills for awhile but have been a bit more stuck on them here lately.
I met Spencer at Horrorhound 2023. Super nice, chill dude and he complimented my Scream shirt. I told him to check out the Nic Cage movie “Mandy” lol. That would make for a crazy song.
I've said this to my friends in the past. Connect the cuts is one of the best singles ever dropped, But when The Silver Scream came out I think they really came into their own Commercially and artistically The whole album has a refined melodic sensibility that really makes it a cut above the rest
I love that when my metalcore era came, I was already a horror movie fan while listening to more metal but not yet in the hardcore part, so when I discover INK for the first time, they just got me with the stories, like I knew I had to stay (and praying that it wasn’t a band that had bangers and never released anything else ‘cause I tend to have that kind of luck xD) Definitely INK gives me the best of both worlds that I’m a sucker for ✨
If someone enjoys horror movies or want to get into them, I really recommend to watch The silence of the lambs (it’s a whole trilogy and even a series but this one’s is perfect by its own already) Just keep in mind it has cannibalism in it, but overall it’s a FANTASTIC movie that I watched like just few years ago and still gave me chills Really really a great movie and great story
No where near tired of it ! more yes please. even just more vids of stuff would be lovely. Something with puppets maybe like Meet the Feebles style would be fun for Wurst Vacation :)
Got to see INK in Biloxi when they were with Atreyu/MIW/BVB, and man, that was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. From a production value, it was arguably the best I've ever seen. Specifically INK and MIW. Would definitely see them again.
as someone who lives in swampscott, if spencer did theater or anything music related in high school, i deeply apologize for him having to go through the horror that is mr. pearse. great theater productions, miserable experiences.
I've somewhat told Spencer this, but INK has been the first band my husband and I are equally passionate about. The first time I heard Hip to Be Scared, I immediately took to Spencer's vocals and their unique melodies and arrangments. My husband instantly recognized that the song was about American Psycho because he loves horror. After years of my husband trying to get me to watch horror with him, INK was the toe in the water that made me willing to wade in, and we've been going to horror conventions and Ice Nine Kills concerts ever since!
i'm so sad I had to leave boston a few days before silver scream con because I have always wanted to go to a horror convention, and this one would have been perfect, but I'm hoping next year will work
I first discovered Ice Nine Kills when The Silver Scream came out. I loved the album, ironically, even though I can't stand horror movies. The writing, and how they don't just make vague references, but rather make the entire song about it, really brought me in. Then I went back and listened to Every Trick in the Book and loved them even more. Plus Spencer just oozes cool, and definitely cleans up well in a suit.
I’m a huge fan if this era where metal bands can go heavy af but the members and vocalist are just so chill people to be with and talk, or they’re too funny Like yeah, this is the vibe that I like and enjoy to have, loud music but calm humans, if it makes sense smh 😅 ✨
INK is actually one of the main reasons why I love and enjoy watching horror movies and listening to rock/heavy metal. Love this band! The first song i‘ve listened to from them was farewell ii flesh. Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to watch them live yet, but listening to interviews or to their songs wants me to see them live so bad. Hope they‘ll never stop❤️🔥🥺
Been jamming Ice Nine since they were still coming up. They were one of those bands that i heard back then that i knew were going to blow bc they were definitely a big cut above the rest in post hardcore at the time.
Interesting experience I had with this band. I was in the back seat on a road trip. My friends were listening to the song about Carrie. Me, not knowing it was about Carrie or anything about the band's horror aesthetic, was picturing the color red the entire time the song played. After each song my friend that knew all the songs asked which horror element the song was based on. I said Carrie and told them what I experienced. Whether it was intentional or not they nailed the Carrie song on more than just lyrics and audio
As an emo theater kid and someone who is a slut for clever lyrics and punny titles… I could listen to multiple albums of movie and literature inspired music from them. And the mention of “Oft-Broadway”… immaculate.
I still listen to the album Safe is Just a Shadow every now and then. Red Sky Warning and The Greatest Story ever told will always be my favorite songs by them. ❤️
Saw them in Montreal opening for Metallica... great live show!! I love how they use horror movies and work it into the lyrics. Looking forward to watching the end of the Horrorwood saga!!
3:16 sorry Spencer But you guys absolutely.Have surpassed the minimum threshold for incredible productions, The silver scream too is an absolute full length production that I would pay to see at a premium movie theatre
My son introduced me to INK. He's a fan. I'm not a big fan of horror but I do like psychological thrillers and I LOVE metal. I find Lorna Shore relaxing LOL. 😌 Edit: Spencer is funny as hell
I really love hearing how much fun they have and how that is what important to them. I think that’s what matter most to any artist. 🖤 (It’s kinda funny at the mirror of the dialog in Hip to be Scared, that Spencer actually thinks they came into their own doing this type of music now, when they stopped caring about everyone else and did what made them happy. ☺️🤘🏻)
I was one of the people that didn’t listen to metal at all but loved horror movies and latched on to the band a few years ago and it’s been a hell of a ride!
I got to seen them live this year with FIR. The stage performance was great but from what i could tell Spencers vocals were really low in the mix...which was a minor let down. But the show was great as a whole.
Although Nik, I don’t know if you’ve heard of Citizen Soldier, they’re not metal but within their music, they speak of emotional but relatable lyrics that anyone at any point in their life can relate to, and if you do check them out, can you interview the vocalist Jake Segura when they release their album ICU?
I watched sooo many classic horrors just to understand the lyrics on Silver Scream
I've never really watched any horror movies at all. But just love the music they make about it.
As you should! I’m doing the same thing and now I’m hooked 🫨
Same!!!
Same
Dude the fact that Spencer wants to do a musical gave me chills
I was not expecting him to drop Les Mis like that 😂❤
just love how calmly spencer speaks, it almost feels like he's not the INK VOCALIST for how his personality is to how he his on music videos and songs
You'd be surprised at how well-composed some artistically morbid people can be.
A lot of harsh vocalists I watch interviews for are usually really calm, sweet, and well spoken people. It’s crazy to me that such nice sounding individuals can sound so cool and brutal in a metal band.
have you seen will ramos? 😂
will looks like the sweetest human being man😂 crazy how he can do a lot of dinosaur noises man LMAO
will is a golden retriever
I’ve been begging for a ice nine kills musical since the greatest story ever told came out. I’m so excited
When Spencer said MUSIKILL!!! 👏😂 He's a GENIUS!!!!!
Wish they’d play some of that stuff live!
I always had a sneaking suspicion that Spencer was a theatre kid today officially confirmed it for me
I fee that validation as well. Haha 🤘🏻
Well every trick in the book has theater vocals by Charnas
Welcome to Horrorwood was the best jump scare. I’ve played it for friends and every time they jump. You start so soft and then BANG! Every friend has jumped. I love introducing ICE NINE KILLS to anyone I know that appreciates music horror and theater.
Ironically people think metal bands are Satanists and the worst people you'll ever meet when in reality they're some of the sweetest and calmest people you'll ever meet
They have their own way to release all kinds of emotions😅
Spencer did that standing crowd surf at London and no one helped me and I got stuck with spencer on my shoulders It was mad. ❤
Dude is responding to the "Step on me" requests
@@susshexe7987 gladly
did it for us in vegas as well, security was freaking out lmao
Imagine being at Applebee's and Spencer puts on infant annihilator 😭😭

I went to St. Louis shows
It's always so soothing to listen to Spencer. Has such a calming, peaceful tone when he speaks.
I think they should do an album of horror games, like a Dead Space song would be sick!
I think they said that for future content, they want to start covering games next
That would be sick tbh or their interpretation of Silent Hill. I feel like they would nail that one imho.
There’s so much good content in the genre, a dead space song might be their heaviest because of how hardcore the universe is
@@ianwalker2205where did you hear this? That would be awesome!
I made up three tracklists for what their next three albums could be about and I never once thought of Dead Space, I’ll have to add that, thanks 🤣 btw I showed Spencer that list so if he uses some of them that’ll be sick
I love that Spencer talks about Me Myself and Hyde. That song was the first song I've listened from them and they just keep getting better
I had liked them before but I was with my gf at the time when that song became available and she’s not a metal fan. I didn’t know but it starts out really soft and pretty and she’s like “oh this is nice” then BAM it was right in your face heavy. Lol she was like wtf is this?! I loved it though

Spencer sounds like Jason Bateman and now I can't unhear it
the metal version more like it
My wife has always been a big horror movie fan, and when we first started dating, had never heard metal. Seeing Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment in November. Absolutely losing my mind from excitement
I love them. They are also my 8year old daughter's favorite band. We've seen them so many times and the show is always amazing
They're on a completely different level. True "Showman" imo. Ink and miw are so good at entertaining a crowd/fans.
I listen and watch carefully. You also have a great speak voice Spencer!
12:30.... Veil of Maya did something similar to this with "Outsider". They dont show the annotations, but they put up the final card during the outro-esque piano / synth part then come back for the big outro breakdown part.

Spencer is talking about Dan Watson. The song with the clock is Decapitation Fornication and Ice Nine Kills and Enterprise Earth toured together both as support for Chelsea grin in 2017!
I saw that show at Mr Smalls theatre in Pittsburgh! First time I’d heard Enterprise Earth. One of my favorite shows I’ve been to throughout the years!
I got to meet The Spencer a couple weeks ago at Spookala in Tampa. Such a humble and down to earth guy, who absolutely LOVES classic horror films. I was just sad I didn't get to do the VIP acoustic set they did on Saturday. Love the content Nik, great interview!

The puns... Man, I just love this band. Spencer is a genius. Really the whole band is.
“Jumpscare Core”
Got me thinking of a FNAF themed band with sick breakdowns.
Saying to a fan of horror that they scared you hast to be the most beautiful compliment, just like when writers are told they make you cry or something like that 😅✨
Spencer must’ve been hyped for Nik freaking out xD
i love this band, i will be on their show in 2024!
Having seen Ice Nine Kills just last night, he still does the "crowd holding him up by his feet" thing.
Fucking great live band.
INK are just unbelievably fun and Spencer absolutely matches that energy
I just love how Spencer seems like a legit humble guy. He's so cool!
spencer looks like a whole new person from every angle
I was so tempted to see them when they opened for metalica, but i looked at my wallet and thought better of it, now its perfect because they are touring with two of my absolute top bands, and my college friends are coming too! i can't wait for the show
Spencer is an interesting dude I could listen to him talk forever
im taking a global horror film class at my university. during the icebreaker from the first class i told everyone about ink. i literally tell people even if you don't like heavy metal but you like horror films to give them a listen
My mom loves horror and she even tried them. sadly she didn’t like them (not helping she listened to The American Nightmare)
Been my favorite band in general since February of this year, they got me onto the entire metal scene.
I'm in a really interesting boat as I don’t typically listen to metal or "screamy music", but I also am too much of a coward to watch horror movies. But my best friend sent me "The Shower Scene" after hearing it on the radio. Now INK is one of my favorite bands 😂
Also, I don’t think they'll ever do it, but I think it'd be really interesting to hear them do an album based on old fairytales
Ohhhh the tales Grimm would be so cool to be adapted into INK songs. Cryptids too!

I’d love to know if Spencer’s a fan of Sleep Token… With how he talks about loving the duality of bands being able to do ballads and heavy shit. 🤘🏻
Spencer was having making Nik laugh and I’m here for it 🤣🥰
Thank you for uploading it the day the video was released ‘cause it feels like a gift, honestly ^-^
I had to work that day and missed the stream but it feels great to have this, thank you Nik ✨
INK actually got me to watch some of the old horror movies like The Fly and My Bloody Valentine that I probably never would have watched otherwise.
Spencer Charnas is the type of guy to tell everyone that Viggo Mortensen broke his toe when he kicked the helmet in the Two Towers
I met Spencer at Horrorhound 2023. Super nice, chill dude and he complimented my Scream shirt. I told him to check out the Nic Cage movie “Mandy” lol. That would make for a crazy song.
I've said this to my friends in the past. Connect the cuts is one of the best singles ever dropped, But when The Silver Scream came out I think they really came into their own

His vibe is so chill ❤ can't wait to see him for Thankskilling!
