I got my first Echo chainsaw 20ish years ago, a pre-production unit to use then fill out a extensive product review. I sold my big Husqvarna's, now I just have 2 small Echo's. They have been the best small powersaw I've ever owned, or heard about!..lol..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠
Yeah as much as I'm eager to see more examples of the 7310 beating the 500, this is more of a tie (from this camera-angle, at least) The top of the 500's section definitely had gnarly grain in it either a "knot" or an old, long-healed limb stub, which would def affect cut-speed and that *was* a close race. @Charlie Brisco it would be epic to see a vid even a 'Short' wherein you discuss this rivalry IN CONTEXT of "fully modded/ported" units (ie as far as I understand it, a stock 500 usually does beat a 7310, right?) Seeing so many 7310s that hang with &/or beat 500s implies that Echo "left more in the table" that we can pick up via mods&porting, it'd be epic to hear some specifics on that (ie do 7310s benefit most from more charge to the jug ie intake and/or transfer timing? Blowdown increase or reduction? Or "typical" cornucopia of all those + compression + timing bump + etcetcetc?)
@@joescissorhands141 he's got full build videos on all 3 styles of porting the 7310. He's got a stock and ported 500i. The ported 7310 beats stock 500 in all 3 configuration but ported vs ported the work build 7310 is slightly behind a ported 500i. This may be his 3rd 7310 which was a hot build at 9hp I wouldn't be surprised if it takes the ported 500i.
ECHO makes great products to , so does stihl , stihl is supposedly top Notch your just paying for the name, like buying a chevy truck versus buying a GMC
Im guessing @dyno joe can....i think they both do great work & i have no way personally to guess who would "win" but i think that's kinda a silly metric at this "point in this niche" where both guys are very likely pushing their units to about as far as the hardware can safely accommodate. Would be cool seeing ALL of them do hard #'s like Dyno Joe does, though, cuz let's be real you can dramatically alter cut times on "through log" videos by what log you use (and nevermind all the ways one could - even unconsciously - alter things on through-log comparisons like this type of vid) I suspect Johns Custom Saws also has his 500i's near their peak condition, too, but IMO that's just more reason that, w/o putting them onto a dyno, it's more of a music-video than infotainment. (Not at all putting down CB's work, to be clear...am subscribed for a reason lol and literally been meaning to ask him whether he's willing & how much $ for doing the head-swap on my 590, as he's one of literally 4 pro-tuners i would even entrust a saw to!

Builders have the opportunity to showcase their work to the masses in real world scenarios, compare in the same wood, etc. You’d be surprised at some of the saws that “no name” guys produce. That’s what’s so cool about 2 stroke technology, it’s all out there to research and get started.
Stihl 500i is 79.2 cc's Echo 7310 is 73.5 cc's Just that amount of increase over the echo should be win every time. And even though the echo is ported I wouldn't think the Stihl would still lose that badly but it does. My local shop has the 500i for 1,790.00 and the echo shop across town has the 7310 for 960.00.
For half the price that echo is a monster!
