I've been waiting to see the Echo, strong runner. The most important thing to me with any piece of equipment is how good it starts and runs. Stihl and Husqvarna have made their marks in the logging industry, (ran/run, owned/own both) but Echo is hard to beat for reliability.
I’m a Shindaiwa guy through and through. The HOOSIER timber guys are big on them so I bought a powersaw and the best backpack blower PERIOD. I’ve got a Stihl 800, a new 4stroke Mikita (weak) and my Shindaiwa EB810!!! Try it you’ll be blown away.
Echo and Shindaiwa was formed into one company called the Yamabiko Corporation back in 2008. All Shindaiwa and Echo products are manufactured on the same production lines and are exactly the same, except for the colors and name on the sticker. Since 2008 is the serial number tag is marked manufactured by Yamabiko. Excellent products, extremely well made.
I love my echo's.. Now own a 620 full wrap, a 501p (50cc), and an itty bitty 3510(35cc, and oh what a fun little saw) I really WANT a 7310.. but I think I'd be wise to instead get the 620 and the 501 ported. But the build quality and ease of working on them (like the old husky's) is just something special. In the days of Strato saws and autotune with EPA and OSHA regulations.. they are a modern "old school" breath of fresh air.

Man what a beast!! I love echo chainsaws they are the only brand I trust to work my timber. My 590 timberwolf Is a beast with only 60cc I can't imagine this hoss of a saw🔥🔥
I'd love to see a video where you compare and contrast the various chainsaws and brands you have, what you like about them, what you think is the best for what task, what is bulletproof, what should be avoided, etc. Kinda like the Billy Ray Bible of Saws. This may not be the most glamorous of videos in regards to the type of work , but this is what I love watching the most as this is the kind of stuff I second guess myself on and want to learn from a pro on how to do it / what I’m doing wrong . I don’t have trouble staying on my buck , but I struggle to keep them square …..
I started out cutting big dead red elm trees back in 1975 for firewood, i used a Homelite xl with a 16 inch bar, wasnt big enough, so i bought a new Homelite 360 with a 20 inch bar, now days i run Echo saws, they are lighter and seem to deliver good power with a few tweeks right out of the box. The other day i found thanks to you, a old Mac 250 with a 24 inch bar for 75.00, had to drive a hour and a half to rescue the old girl, doesnt have the bolted head, but its going to be fun getting it to purrr!

Beauty friggen Echo Donny! He's such a good egg. Say Billy, you have improved my game exponentially. Of course, much is owed to my Fundamentals of Basic Tree Work book. And a bit from watching August, & Bjarne too. But simply paying attention, & mimicking how you work has made me a different guy in the bush. I have a ton to say to ya, but I'll keep it brief. Another thing I have found when cutting large wood is pay attention the twist of the saw. If you look at the saw in the cut it is always heavy to the left so compensate with a little clockwise twist. Not alot just enough to offset the weight of the saw that's to the left of the bar. It makes a difference. If you let it run I have found my rounds are longer on the bottom side of the cut. I used to hate big rounds and then came a inverted splitter on the skid steer. The inverted spliter made the biggest impact, a push of a button and its down to a manageable size. Nobody wants the hassle of the large wood but if you can set yourself up with some equipment it's so much less work than messing with 12" diameter rounds but to be fair I never met a peice of branch wood I didn't like. I LOVE this time of year!
Anothet positive and fun video. I actually felt like we were hanging out at your tailgate. Then I imagined burning a chunk of that cedar. The vapors produced from your saw and yourself told me it was a bit cold that day. You are a master at the TH-cam platform bud. You make the viewer part of the video... and that is freaking cool.
@@team_1j_jont-179 I had some tcw3 mixed gas from a boat that sat longer than I liked. I dumped it in a bucket, added a splash of diesel and half a qt. of ATF. It's my chain dip/carbon remover/de-smhoo-ing juice. Works great.
I have small Echo CS-390 ESX professional grade saw. It is one of The best saws you can buy in that price range🤔. I have used it for 3 years now and there have never been any problems👍. I have never even adjusted carburator and it just works super good every time🤷
The 7310 weighs about the same as a 272 and a 372. All within about a pound. Crazy how when something feels "different" we just can't put our finger on it sometimes.
I am about a year and a 1/2 into running my 7310. I think it is a great value saw. I have had absolutely no issues with it at all. Love you all...❤❤❤ Lieutenant Bradley
You did a great job explaining how to keep the kerf straight. I still have trouble on those real big ones. I call it the Drill Bit 🤣. I always joke that im just cuttin two different lengths ,one for burnin and one for kindling😁.It has caused me serious frustration when buckin large trees.I think you know what i mean by a drill bit spiral.
Ooh 7310... my wish has been granted. Cheers Buckin some love for the underdog 😁👌. Seems fairly strong from walkers better than his first port job on it, and they did build that saw to last with metal pull starter, heavy duty filter etc didn't think it was much in it weight wise compared to a 372.

Never had a large piece roll on top of me, however I have had times i was thankful for steel toe! And i've had a couple times I was buckin from the high side and forgot to block the roll with a wedge of wood or something, and had a log roll into a creek and had some pieces roll downhill that i later had to retrieve.

Due to fire prevention measures, they spread uncontrollably without human intervention (whether in the form of controlled burns, cutting them, etc) and are considered invasive as a result.
I like this video!! I’m picky about my length and I hate when the bucks aren’t square. When I have friends help me it’s more of a favor to them to come help me give them something to do and it gravels me when their cuts are crooked!! Makes it harder to split!!
Buck'n, if you have run one of those "out of the box", then you really can appreciate the difference the Walker made. That is running SO much better than my Echo 7310 on similar sized red oak and on a fair sized dead dry ash. It just now has enough hours on it to consider removing the limiters to get it out of the too rich doledrums. Keep yer stick on the ice and all of that .... ;-)
Been waiting on this. I'm loving my 7310p balanced perfect with Sugihara lightweight 28" and Oregon exl and exj chains. Its Stock for now but finally opened the muffler a bit a re-tuned. May port it someday, but for now, it pulls great in PA hardwood. When i bought it, it was a lot less money than the other 70cc saws but I think they raised the price a bit. Little heavier, but like buckin said in the past, you don't feel the weight in the wood, just carrying it from the truck. Great anti-vibe, built more old school - solid metal with very little plastic and no computer stuff to contend with. Two or three pulls to start from cold every time. And it really sips gas slow, that's my only complaint about all my Echo tools... a tank a fuel last so long I don't get as frequent refueling breaks!
Everyone has a favorite boot type and I'm more of a work cowboy boot person. If your interested in good quality larger name cowboy style boots I strongly suggest Double H boots. I have roughly 18 years in wearing Double H boots 12 years of that as a semi mechanic climbing up and down trucks and spending 12ish hours a day on concrete, gravel, in rain snow heat etc.
What do you think about that Walker bar Buckin? I picked myself up a 28” with one of Donnys chains to try out. Haven’t played with the setup much. Sliced a few cookies in a big chunk of white ash seemed to hold its own threw it.

I have a homelite c72 made in the early 80s,got it off ebay ,havent used it yet but uts suppose to be an 80 cc with looks like about a 30 inch bar stock,I havent seen one in any of your videos and wonder if you have ever used one and if so what did you think about it,I know its pretty heavy.

Good video! I have a new CS620p and have about 10 tanks of gas through it and after it warms up it now has a sucking noise at idle. Does that mean I need to lean out the carb or is that normal?
Really enjoy your videos. I have a echo cs490 18 inch is there any tricks you know I could do to it so it could performbetter. Its a good saw . I'm currently cutting up a shag back hickory in my off time . Wish I could send you some photos. I cut and burn what I can get ahold of. My friend has this big blown down oak I will be cutting up this winter.
How bad is the bar oiler on those newer echo saws? Alot of the older Echo saws that I've run over the years were pretty limited on Bar length because of the a weak oiler. I wish all "Pro" saws had a manual over-ride on the oiler like the old McCullochs had so you could give it a squirt. You can physically feel a chain start to "drag" after ya run saws long enough.
Educational question here. That cedar looked fairly healthy and large compared to other sickly trees around it. Can you say why that was chosen to be felled? Not being critical, I love to cut and mill myself, just want to be educated.
I've got some clovey chain. Oddball lookin' chain & obsolete. Think what caused that was people using it as a normal chain when it was meant for ripping. I'd like to see you work with some of that.
Hey bucking God bless buddy can I ask you a question please if you're cutting and let's say you hit a nail or a rock you have to sharpen your chain let's say one side did not get hit but the other side did once you sharpen it one side is bigger the tooth then the other side of the tooth of the chain does that matter do they have to be the same size each side of the tooth thank you

Used to run homeites 925 and 410s. Great saws! Switched over to stihls in the 2000s and now have 460s and 660s !!

Absolutely. Balancing the powerhead keeps your cuts straight, and can even compensate for a dull chain to a degree.

My uncle was a tree surgeon for 50 years,he always boiled a pot of oil and put his chains in it! He had a theory that the chains lasted longer!
Whether it did or not, betcha it got the rosin off!!

Atf, kerosene , oil mixed will sure lube and clean them wonderfully

weight distribution, is much different than a # on a scale my Brother .. ya no that saying ,' good in the Hands" ..applies here

The only red cedar we got here in the east are utility poles.... they get milled, helps to have some contacts working in the grid

Oregon EXL is my favorite saw chain right now as well. Cant reccommend it enough!

What do you think about that Walker bar Buckin? I picked myself up a 28” with one of Donnys chains to try out. Haven’t played with the setup much. Sliced a few cookies in a big chunk of white ash seemed to hold its own threw it.
Love my new 7310, it pulls a 32 nice and if I get a chance to have walker give it a work over that would be even sweeter.

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Oh no I watched you drop it I meant to watch you do the bucking, I always have trouble with big trees getting the saw stuck. Watching you do the high side then low sides I see I was in a hurry trying to do it the wrong way. Thanks my friend for sharing your knowledge and experience. This old cutter is still learning. 👍♥️♥️
I have a homelite c72 made in the early 80s,got it off ebay ,havent used it yet but uts suppose to be an 80 cc with looks like about a 30 inch bar stock,I havent seen one in any of your videos and wonder if you have ever used one and if so what did you think about it,I know its pretty heavy.

Good video! I have a new CS620p and have about 10 tanks of gas through it and after it warms up it now has a sucking noise at idle. Does that mean I need to lean out the carb or is that normal?

I have a echo cs490 18 inch is there any tricks you know I could do to it so it could performbetter. Its a good saw . I'm currently cutting up a shag back hickory in my off time . Wish I could send you some photos. I cut and burn what I can get ahold of. My friend has this big blown down oak I will be cutting up this winter.

How bad is the bar oiler on those newer echo saws? Alot of the older Echo saws that I've run over the years were pretty limited on Bar length because of the a weak oiler. I wish all "Pro" saws had a manual over-ride on the oiler like the old McCullochs had so you could give it a squirt. You can physically feel a chain start to "drag" after ya run saws long enough.
Oiler working fine on my 7310 with a 28. Plenty of oil, and with adjustment maxed out, it runs out of gas right before it runs out of oil

Educational question here. That cedar looked fairly healthy and large compared to other sickly trees around it. Can you say why that was chosen to be felled?
Not being critical, I love to cut and mill myself, just want to be educated.
I've got some clovey chain. Oddball lookin' chain & obsolete. Think what caused that was people using it as a normal chain when it was meant for ripping. I'd like to see you work with some of that.

Hey bucking God bless buddy can I ask you a question please if you're cutting and let's say you hit a nail or a rock you have to sharpen your chain let's say one side did not get hit but the other side did once you sharpen it one side is bigger the tooth then the other side of the tooth of the chain does that matter do they have to be the same size each side of the tooth thank you
