    Tests like these are subject to so many variables but at least gives one some sort of baseline to see the performance differences. A bunch of work went into producing this video and you are to commended for your effort!

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely correct, so many variables, this was four separate flights but I know the line well and get the timing pretty close. However, this was just meant to be a real world comparison to discover any major performance differences, which I didn’t really see anything alarming.
      Thanks for noticing the work I put into the video, most videos I produce have around 40hrs of production time in them which is why I only post like once a month. Haha! I’ll do more follow up tests soon, and think the range flights will really show any major performance variations if they exist. Thanks for watching and commenting, stay tuned. Cheers!

    You should conformal coat all your drones. I do all of mine even living in Arizona USA. I took apart my Walksnail VTX and did that as well. to be honest it was a bit of a pain with the heatsinks. It has saved quite a few of my drones falling in wet grass or small puddles. i even had a drone stuck in a tree for a few weeks and a few rainstorms and worked fine after i got it out.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know I also conformal coat all my builds, I “slapped this build together quickly” so I could do some quick tests and skipped the conformal coating…
      When I first started this I lost a number of FC, VTXs and ESCs to wet grass, mud, and even dust… since then I’ve been using conformal coat and have had no problems.
      Oh well, the replacement should arrive this week and I’ll do a proper build this time. Thanks for watching and for the comment, stay tuned, cheers!

This 1s situation has not been great for me so far… only got two flight and fried the VTX (my fault) but now I’ve installed the replacement VTX and my camera isn’t working. Only showing a bright white screen, so some how it fried too. Ugh… the normal full version will arrive in a week or so, then I’ll do some proper review and testing.

    Thanks for the very useful tests. This gave me lots of good information. You are the first one who compared the optics between two goggles, a very important part of the FPV experience.
    I get the feeling that the optics of the HDZero are better than the WS Avatar optics, which seems the same as the HDO2 and HDO's?
    Sorry about the loss of VTX, bad luck.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      The VTX loss was poor planning, not bad luck. Haha! I haven’t used the WS goggles, so I’m not sure, but there has been talk about the internal screens potentially being the same based on the specific type of product and limited manufacturers. The original difference was WS had 100hz, but i believe Carl is able to overclock these screens to 100hz. BUT, I don’t really know. Either way the screens look great!

    GREAT VIDEO! Nice testings and comparisions(as always:). It seems that digital is the way to go! But I still don't understand all the compatibility of cameras-vtxs-vrx. Wish there would be more vtx with 600mw, 800mw and so on. Do you know maybe which vtx has the more power that works on Walksnail?
    Keep up man and looking forward for more videos like this!

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was running WalkSnail at the lowest power setting here… this 1s VTX can output up to 350mW. They have a larger version I’ll test later in the month that can handle 1200mW, that’s the system you’d want for a larger quad.
      As far as digital compatibility there are 3 main systems:
      DJI - Completely closed system, requires all DJI components.
      WalkSnail - Newest digital system, very similar to DJI, has their own goggles but also an external VRX that can be added to any goggle* with an HDMI input.
      *Currently only the WalkSnail and New HDZero googles can use the 100fps mode.
      HDZero - Been around for years, has always been an external VRX that you add to Analog goggles. However the last month they released their own goggles and it can run HDZero, WalksSnail and Analog systems in full resolution and frame rate! Pretty cool, they are arguably the best goggle currently available.
      Now there are pros and cons to each system but, that’s too much to type here. I’ll do a video about it eventually, and the internet is full of comparisons.
      If you’re coming from Analog and have good goggles currently then getting an HDZero or WS VRX is a pretty cost effective upgrade. If you want to keep using analog but want new goggles I’d highly recommend the HDZERO goggles.
      Thanks for watching and commenting, stay tuned, cheers!

      So actually there’s “an issue” here. The DVR footage actually isn’t representative of the actual Goggle images. The part where I was comparing the two goggle images was actually edited in FCPX to try and illustrate what I saw in each goggle. It wasn’t 100% accurate, just a demonstration. I'm always amazed at the range you get on your HDZero setup. I take my system out on the same kind of stuff that went 5 miles on analog, but it blanks out in a single mile and requires the RTH switch. Stuck the IRC Power Meter 2 on and the Freestyle VTX is giving a mere 450mW on the MAX setting. All I can figure is that the U.FL to SMA connectors I'm using are introducing massive loss or something. The range and penetration have just never been good for me. It just doesn't seem likely to me that every product I've gotten from them was defective. (the Race V2 was, but Divimath was cool about it)

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, range results between analog and HDZero should be very similar. I always use pigtails so that shouldn’t be a major issue. When you test, are you using Ch.R1? This is actually the only channel that outputs 1W, as you move up in the channels power levels quickly drop all the way down to 300mW. Also if range is priority don’t use Omnis on the VRX, only high gain directional antennas.
      Let me know, if you have clear LOS, and aren’t in a city, range shouldn’t be an issue.

      @@GiantAntCowboy Yup, I've tested this on R1. It's giving me this strange behavior where the signal slowly creeps down by about 2mW per second as well, but it will occasionally spike up a little. I'm doing this all in a tiny little neighborhood surrounded by cornfields, and even with clear line of sight and directional antennas, I'm getting worse performance than analog (400mW) with just omnis. Going to try grabbing some direct U.FL antennas as it's possible the pigtails I'm using are just poor quality.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaysonrees738 hmm that is strange behavior indeed. Definitely try new pigtails or direct antenna. Also are you currently using a long antenna? Using longer/taller antennas instantly improved my range. I’ve flown HDZero 4.5km (2.7miles) using only 25mW, so something is certainly going on here with your setup. We just need to figure out what…

    • @jaysonrees738
      @jaysonrees738 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GiantAntCowboy Have been using a 6 inch antenna which was what I used for analog, so I know that one is fine. Tried another pigtail that appeared to be new and the meter started showing around 600ish. Will just have to wait for a little cash so I can improve my stock a bit. Would be so nice to have a good experience with HDZero.
      On a side note, I'm aiming for some of those goggles. They handle everything I want to do better than what I have.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaysonrees738 oh nice, so a different pigtail did give some improvement. There are obvious quality issues with some pigtails, but also the outer shielding often cracks where it’s soldered to the SMA connector. This causes a massive drop in power and signal performance.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Avoid, not really, minimize, maybe… often shippers from China send packages in a way that avoids or limits the import fees. It’s a bit of a gray area I think, but I’ve seen many posts about people paying no tolls/fees in EU and UK, or only paying 40€.
      I’ve noticed this with many products from China, HDZero, WalksSnail, Banggood, Hobbyking, etc… currently all EU orders will ship from China.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I’ve always trusted HDZero/Analog more for Long-Range Mountain Flying over DJI/WalkSnail because of “how good DJI & WalkSnail are”…
      • What I mean is they kinda lie to you, they buffer and repair the image and pretend every is going fine until it not, then poof, it’s gone! The goggle feed, OSD and DVR just instantly stop and go blank.
      • Analog and HDZero don’t “sugar coat” a bad situation, the moment things start to go bad it looks bad, static everywhere, and you know to act accordingly.
      • and Yes, to your point you do continue to get OSD until of course there’s no more signal, then the OSD generally freezes, screen goes to static until LOS is restore, then the image breaks through the static and you breath again!
      I’ll be doing tests on this with both systems soon (not in the mountains though) and we’ll see the how each system reacts, so stay tuned. Thanks for watching, cheers!

    • @GiantAntCowboy

      Interesting idea, it could theoretically work, keep in mind though a Helical antenna for lower frequencies will be much larger. You’ll have to reach the proper dimensions but I know even 2.4ghz Helicals are quite big.
      Helical antenna however can receive a pretty wide band of RF, so it might be able to work on each of those frequencies. It’d probably make sense to build it for 1800Mhz though so it’s in the middle of the spectrum.

    This is a camera sensor test. Not a system test. For low light flying.

      In this video I was comparing a few things:
      1) Signal Performance of the New Goggles vs the Original SB VRX
      2) HDZ Goggles vs FS HDO goggles, Image Quality and Function
      3) Quick test of WalkSnail system and comparison to HDZero 1s setup.
      Really just sharing my findings, not sure what you were hoping for but please let me know. I’ll be doing another follow up to this video soon.
      Thanks for watching, cheers!

    I am sorry but I have no idea what you did or what it means. audio was hard to make out too much video to look at in one shot I am confused.

      Hi, basically this video is just comparing a few things:
      1) RF Signal Performance: Original VRX vs HDZero Goggles using different antennas.
      2) Image and Function: FatShark HDO vs HDZero Goggles.
      3) WalksSnail Test and Comparison using new Goggles.
      It’s a lot of information and I was trying it keep it brief, which can be confusing.
      Appreciate the feedback, cheers!

    Hei bra test 😊 lurte på om du viste hvor jeg kan få kjøpt 2 sånne heli antenne som du har hadde satt veldig pris om du kunne sendt meg link eller noe som helst 😊mvh Thomas 😊

      Hei Thomas. Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately these antennas aren’t so common, they can be purchased in the US but not easily from Norway. I make mine, and it’s a pretty simple project really and costs almost nothing!
      Here’s a DIY video I made about it:
      - Easy DIY 5.8ghz Helical Antenna:

      @@thomasgilbert6924 I shared two videos in my previous comment. You definitely don’t need a 3D printer. 👍

    Good video, I would just recommend that if you are doing a spoken video, no need to have us read so much all of the time. Skip the text, just speak it. Thanks!

      I like to include both because some people don’t listen with volume, or understand spoken English well, however I do agree that the text was a little overwhelming in this video. I was just trying to cram in a lot of information and thoughts…
      Appreciate the feedback and will definitely keep it in mind going forward, cheers!

      I assume you have individual ESCs? In this case I think water just shorted some components on the VTX. (If you’re referring to my WS experience here)

      That’s an interesting ideas that I’ll test in the next video. Since the mounts are just Velcro it’s really easy to switch them around before each flight. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion, cheers!
