I'm not sure what will happen the rest of the series but it's great seeing a player like Jokic who can barely jump over a sheet of paper and runs about 1 mile an hour dominate these faster/quicker and more athletic players. Basketball is more about skill and bball IQ than all of that other stuff.
The Lakers certainly find the adjustments in the second half to make it close. The Nuggets better find a counter for it in the next game, or it could be 1-1.
I still think the Nuggets will take the series.

For all the people I hear bashing 80s basketball defense about the lack of effort on the defensive side of the ball and how Larry Bird dominated because of a lack of D, I can make the same exact same point with any game today and observe Jokic dominate. Skill and fundamentals always triumph regardless of era.

I think you guys are exaggerating the importance of racial politics in this. This is actual just normal MVP stuff, regardless of race. Do you think that Lebron and MJ didn't 3peat MVPs because they're too pale?? Has happened 1 time since the 1960s, and it has always been that you need to distinguish your case by A LOT to be awarded a 3rd in a row, by whichever criteria are used. The criteria since Wesbtrook's MVP have been individual offensive and defensive numbers. Not team impact nor team performance. By the current criteria, Embiid and Jokic had cases that were too close to give Jokic his 3rd in a row. Identical PIE and PER, and Embiid had better individual defense. Arguably Jokic even gave it to Embiiid at the end, he slacked off and almost said as much in an interview. There was a BleacherReport out recently from inside the organization that confirms that Jokic didn't want a 3rd because of the drama. Instead he wanted to send a message that he was focused on team success, not individual accolades.He let his team see him rest going into the post season and give up an award for their chances.
OFC Jokic is the far better player, whether for regular season, or, especially, playoff basketball, and arguably Jokic still had a better regular season if we look at thinks the MVP criteria doesn't currently look at. But an FMVP is much better than an MVP, ad it is actually good for the Nuggets and Jokic to get the disrespect they get from the national media. Now we get to watch the revenge tour.
