Man, I remember importing a dreamcast with VF3tb in 1998 and watching this trailer on the bonus disc. Couldn't get enough of it. I watched the entire documentary numerous times even without understanding a word. Powerful trailer right here.
Same, got an imported Dreamcast with VF3tb with the Project Berkeley disc as well. Also later ordered a mod-chip and soldered it inside the Dreamcast to play European Dreamcast games. Unfortunately, it would also play games at 60Hz. Any at 50Hz, such as Code Veronica, wouldn't display properly.
This might be random, but my favorite part is that little clip of Ryo fighting in the dark with the rain coming down. Some thing so visceral and high stakes about it, like you genuinely feel his life is in danger if he can't manage to put these people down.
I have a theory on this, Xuying falls into the Wise Oldman/woman character archtype and when this archtype is used as a mentor to the protagonist in a coming of age style of story arch (which we have already seen in Shenmue 2) they are often removed from the storyline (usually they are killed off, but not always) just before the climax and the reason for this is so that the protagonist can fully develop on their own some examples of this in other media include "Life Of Pi" when he loses the guidebook in the storm, the original "Star wars" trilogy when Yoda dies of old age, "Rocky" when Micky dies from a heart attack, and "Karate Kid" although Mr. Miagi did not die, now we look at some of the scenes with Xuying and her brother Zimming from Shenmue 2, as well as the side story comics and we can see that both of them do still deeply care about each other, we also have the implied line of "once you go down the dark path there is no coming back" thus my theory here is that Xuying will be killed at the hands of the Chi Yu Men, and that the act of this happening motivates Zimming to help Ryo stop them this Zimming redeems himself in doing so.
I just love the opening music it builds up the hype…it often reminds me of just how far shenmue series could of taken us…this game had so much potential to be the greatest game ever made.but it was limited by technology.
Virtua Fighter RPG at 2:06 watch closely!
Maybe you see it... ☺
Wow... Was that akira that ran from the explosion???

Wow! It gave me goosebumps! Thanks! :)
1:46 Ryo was just like VF Akira in the early project. :)
There's a few Shenmue III story hints there. It's very weird seeing Tao Lishao getting punched.

And now that 3 is out, possibly hints of 4 and so on, I think that maybe this is from when it was supposed to be the full story in a single game.
MAN there were so many things cut and changed., Yu Suzuky got lots of content for shenmue for sure
2024, years after Shenmue III and most of this trailer is still an enigma.

Long live this amazing game.....
