    The reason you can't get that plate on there is likely due to the contact screws being in the out position. Turn breaker off. Pull receptacle out and screw them in. Put receptacle back in wall. Then you should be good to go. I'm not sure these things are 100% safe though. If there is the smallest gap between the contact on plate and screw. It could arc potentially causing an electrical fire...

    i've had SnapPower in my home for several years, back when they made both 3000K and 6000K versions; now they only make 3000K. in our home, the outlets are installed "upside down" with the ground plug on top, so the SnapPower LEDs point up due the prong contact design you mentioned. i lost 2 plates during a recent electrical storm, and i recently purchased a product by Tensun, which is very similar to the Transacore you reviewed. i prefer them over the SnapPower for several reasons. 1) it comes in 6000K. all the LEDs in my home are 5000-6000K, so it's consistent and NO SLEEPING ISSUES HERE! 2) the prong contacts are wider, which allows me to install them with the LEDs pointing down; something i can't do with SnapPower, and i'm not about to reconfigure every single outlet! 3) their LEDs are a touch brighter than SnapPower; great for path lighting, but YMMV as a night light. 4) they are better cost value. at the time of my comment, it appears both Transacore or Tensun products are no longer available, unfortunately. TIP: regarding the installation difficulty you had with the Transacore, you can flatten out the metal contacts prior to installation to make them less prominent and easier to slide over the terminal screws.

      @DadReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience with the different plates that you have had with leds. I like the 5000K better too, and since it's just 3 leds, I don't have any issues with it keeping me awake either. Thanks for the tip about the connector and getting it to stay on the outlet. Very helpful. I appreacite you taking the time to write all of this! How many do you have in your house right now?

    The advantage of SnapPower is they can be used with split plugs. The other brands (due to the large contacts) will short out split plugs and could be thus a hazard. On regular (unsplit) plugs they would work fine.

      @@DadReviews Usually in a kitchen (above counter) but can be elsewhere, each plug is on a separate circuit breaker and usually because of that, also on the other phase, so if shorting them out you're shorting out 240V, that's why the cheaper Chinese LED lights (with the larger contact tabs have a warning not to use on outlets with two wires), see for example: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/714Z7ARolrL._SL1000_.jpg (from a.co/d/9CnKEEp listing)

      @@DadReviews Also another common set up is a switched outlet, these are often found in a living room. One side is always "hot" or on, but the other is wired to a wall switch so you can turn on a lamp that is plugged in. If a room has no ceiling fixture, then you will have 1 or more switched outlets. This is just a safety thing, they don't want you to stumble into the middle of a dark room to turn on the light.

    Check wire spacing in box.There has to be clearance to the back of most duplex boxes. Having wires pulled tight to sides of duplex plug also helps. Clear contact to center stap connectors are required. This will not work on duplex that top & bottom plugs are seperately powered as cross-over straps are removed for these functions

    This is from SnapPowers own web site...
    We are not responsible if information made available on this site is not accurate, complete or current. The material on this site is provided for general information only and should not be relied upon or used as the sole basis for making decisions without consulting primary, more accurate, more complete or more timely sources of information. Any reliance on the material on this site is at your own risk.
    So they are telling prospective buyers of their products what? Information we have shown on our site may not be accurate and it's up to you to find (somewhere else accurate info)?
    I looked this up under their terms and conditions trying to find information on returning some of their GuideLights...they simply won't fit and found this information in their USER AGREEMENT.
    What a strange statement that is.
    Recently I bought GFCI GuideLights and they won't fit, I emailed them asking for return procedure and have (so far received) 3 emails from them instructing me to 1 send them pictures of my GFCI outlets. 2 they responded telling me my GFCI outlet should work with their product 3 sent me picture of a Leviton GFCI outlet for comparison. Each email I requested return information none of the emails I received from them had return information. They don't have return information listed on their site at least I couldn't find it. The only thing I found pertaining to returns was you have 30 days from date of receiving to return. So far I've gotten the runaround. All communication with them is through email, no phone number, no address. This has left me with a bad feeling about this company. My advise inspect your outlets first and "TRY" to find info whether or not your outlet will work with their product. My issue is the too tight outlet box and the fatter than standard GFCI outlet which doesn't leave enough room to "snap" GuideLight in. To get it to work I'd have to replace my GFCI outlets which is just too much money for having a night light.

    • @DadReviews
      @DadReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with them. I didn't have any issues with mine, and never needed to return them. This is one reason why I usually always buy on Amazon. To return via Amazon is so easy. That beginning paragraph about the language on their site sounds like some legal jargon so that they are protected if something bad were to happen during the installation (at least that's what it sounds like to me). Let me know how the return process goes for you. I wish I could help you out better, but I haven't had to return anything.

    If you look at an outlet at Lowes or other hardware store, you can see that they have 2 screw terminals on each side and a copper tab that connects them which can be snapped of with pliers.
    This allows some flexibility in the installation. The most common reason to snap off the connecting tab is when you want one outlet that can be switched off, and the other one to be on all the time. The plate/light with the larger connection COULD be a fire hazard if one outlet is switched and whatever is connected to it draws more than about 100 watts or so.
    How? Because that little piece of metal will bridge the connection, and have a pretty poor contact, so it will get quite hot if the switch is off and IT is carrying the load. It might even get hot enough to melt the plastic, then you have live electrical wires in a melted plastic mess, potentially exposed to curious hands, or dogs, etc. It is also possible those exposed metal bits could short out as well.
    The better design would be the one that is designed with small connecting metal bits, which appears to connect only to the lower screw terminals. Especially if you consider that an LED night light draws a very very small amount of power, it doesn't need a big beefy contact.
    Also its a great idea to turn off the breaker and unplug whatever you have plugged into the outlet BEFORE you get out the screwdriver. You want to be around to take care of and provide for your family, right?

    • @DadReviews

      Snap Power says theirs cost less than a dime a YEAR! So at about 8 hrs a day the power consumption is infinitesimal.

      @@davidmarquardt2445 ...they'll be on longer than that it depends on how much light they receive like the one at the end of my hallway stays on 24/7 and so do the 2 in my main bathroom so it depends but still they don't use much electricity one thing I noticed their site claims 25yrs but they only warranty for a year. I find that suspect, if they cost $20 each they should have lifetime warranty or at least longer than 1 year.

    I got 8 of those tiny electrode, more flexibles, you show but they have no name on them.
    First, half of them have at least, one side detached electrode, out of the box (Broken) needing re-soldering or hoping pressure do the enough compression! Then, none that I have so far placed, has working sensor. They remain ON, all the time!
    Can anyone please help?

      Well electronically speaking, the ones that are on all the time are using nearly the same amount of energy (in watts) that the ones that are "off" during the day are using. Costs you about the same either way, so enjoy the lighting goodness. It will reduce the LED's lifespan, however.
