Bro, Oregon introduced a program called paid leave Oregon which is similar to FMLA. you can add that too!

One more point, you had to decide on the name for the baby well in advance which will go in the birth certificate.

Good information bro. I want to share my experience here. I had both my kids here under my company insurance. I moved to US based company only in Oct 2017 and had my first born in Oct 2018. So, I was not eligible for FMLA but did not have any problem to my job. Many companies ( including mine) offers Short Term Disability leave ( 6 weeks) and parental leave ( 2 weeks) which are fully paid. I took similar 12 weeks for my second one ( 8 paid and 4 weeks unpaid) as well. Reg insurance, we spent around 5.5k for first but only around 1.5k for my second ( really depends on insurance. If you are planning for baby, do not go for HSA that year). Also, I have heard from my colleagues before that, if your family is with single income ( esp with Indian companies), you might be eligible for financial assistance based on income limit.

      Why no HSA

@@jasminejesudoss7068 HSA might be beneficial from investment and tax benefit purposes but we have to contribute money towards that. For labor and delivery, HRA might be more beneficial due to the associated cost.

Good information, but regarding maternity leave, it really depends on the company (as you mentioned). For instance, our company provides 3 months of paid maternity leave and 2 months of paid paternity leave. If we need additional time, we can opt for FMLA. I believe your generalization might stem from the IT work culture and being employed through a consultancy. In such cases, paid maternity or paternity leave may not be available. I’m in the manufacturing field and have worked at four different companies here in the U.S., all of which offered paid maternity and paternity leave.

I guess $6000-8000 maybe for those scenerios where employers insurance does not support such treatments or any cheap insurance companies.
Many good companies offer great coverage on these... ideally it should be around 600- $1000. Also, most companies offer upto 12 week of maternity leaves other than FMLA. Maybe IT consultancy companies may not afford these due to their "billing" issues :D

It depends upon the insurance coverage and deductibles you may have during child birth. Still $400 seems too good to be true.

@@monishasekar4716 they have insurance. Even in India, if you have insurance, you pay far less only. Indian public so not have knowledge of insurance when in India, they gain the same when going abroad, that’s it.

That’s the worst decision bro. If you’re super rich and ready to spend minimum 1crore for the bachelors degree (just the fees) + living expenses, you can do in USA. Most of the Indians send their kids to India to do their bachelor’s degree and come back here for masters or work
