That same thing happen to my husband they ask for cigarettes 🚬🚬🚬 when he tell them he doesn't have any they dont even move the stand. Not until i say something then they understand, 🇦🇺🇯🇲
Right?! They stand there, so true! At this point I make a game out of it and embrace the awkwardness of just us standing and staring at each other… as I tell the boys…no means no🤣
Tyler, for your peace of mind, perhaps you should ask the question. It will keep eating away at you if you don't have the answer. Perhaps it's not even because you're a foreigner, maybe you just look kind. She probably knows that her Jamaican brothers and sisters would run her away disgracefully, because I personally know they will.
Confession time Tyler, i have done that a time or two, especially when they are intoxicated, but I also give in because I thought they would take my bag if I didn't give something. God will forgive you for lying 😊
A way to feel better would be a question to "would you like me to buy something for you to eat" instead of giving cash, because cash can be used otherwise.
Tyler don’t feel badly. The begging is ingrained in many folks( and not just JA). The let off supp’n happens everywhere including the airports with the officers and also with the police(always want a lunch money ) I’m Jamaican & have lived outside for decades. I think I look very Jamaican yet on countless times I’ve been out with family or friends there and someone will beg me something. Last time it happened was outside KFC in Manor Park. He asked me and not the folks I was with. Told him I’m sorry but I didn’t have any money. Without a pause he said jus’ add a 3 piece barbecue to yuh order. 😮…like wow!! My folks said you have foreign written all over you. These people know who to ask🤣🤣😩 Anyway, stand your ground and keep doing God’s work.
That was the right answer. Don't feel bad. Not everybody that comes to you begging you should give to them To her, you look like a foreigner, white or black, they know. You could dress up or dress down, and they still will know. Plus, there are not a lot of foreigners living in your area, and to some of the uneducated, they have this preconceived notion that if you look foreign to them you have money, don't take it personal. It happened to me in the market , If I speak like a Canadian , the price goes up, and if I speak like a jamaican, the price still goes up😂😂I ask them why that is, there answer was they know by my complexion , meaning, my black complexion is too pale. 😮 Take that as a lesson, Tyler. You need to say no more often. You can't be a nice guy all the time. People will take advantage of you. For example, you kept feeding food to the very first dog, and he kept coming back, and now he is a 😢permanent fixture because you never said no to that dog😂😂
@@sharonbryan8644 Evening Sharon, and so true about the complexion complex here. Ha, yea, funny about the dog…the new ones come in and he’s gone about his own business…amazing the similarities🤣🤙
Hi Tyler, I would say the same thing. Even here in Canada I say I don't carry cash when someone begs. Same thing happens to my husband when we go to Jamaica on vacation, he's also same colour as you.
Comes with the territory I suppose, I’m not offending by anyone asking, just more working on my own ability to bluntly but politely not making excuses and just saying no. Wow, Canada too🥰🤙
Upstate New York where I live there are more beggars than Jamaica, especially at Walmart Crossings and downtown ant I noticed they are slick writing on Card that they are Veterans, homeless or hungry ,and honestly sometimes your heart cannot pass a hungry person.😮😮😮❤
I'm not saying that you shouldn't ask for something if you are really in need of it, but just walking up to strangers and boldly begging like that....smh
Hiya Tyler ..don’t feel bad , we are not perfect..it’s just stereotype and we all have to be careful that we don’t fall victim to this..This is a problem all over the world not just JA..Blessings always..❤❤
Don’t feel badly Tyler😊 In NYC the beggars are professionals! Their routes and times are similar every day. The stories are amazing, such as, apartment fire, some are collecting money to purchase sandwiches and drinks for the homeless in large plastic water bottles😂😂
Tyler this is typically Jamaica where cost of living is very high,so just like most places in the world people will ask for help whether they know you or not, especially a mid age Jamaican would not beg you if they really have it,it has nothing to do with race so don't feel offended.maybe that lady need it to feed the family.♥️♥️🤔🤔
Tyler, just looking like you are from North America, they think you have funds to disbursed. It happened to me right here in America, in churches and on prayer lines. People befriend me for loans and services. I am so afraid to make friends.
Tyler please do not fedl badly for not condoning the begging that is at an epidemic proportions in Jamaica. Ambulance: wa wa wa wA which is not only embarrassing but down right unacceptable for our Jamaican society. It seems as if they begs in their sleep as the words just comes out automatically as if they are entitled for others monies. This is Not a good look as it brings donwn the charm of Jamaica in a negative way. My daughter's first trip to Jamaica with her friends and their impressions were " gosh, they love to beg" Do not feel bad for not giving when they asks, and while I do say that, It does not mean you cannot give to a person if you see that they might be in need, I do, and do so gladly and wished there is more that I could do however, but I do not encouraged the gifting to those who have lost their pride and choose to beg. NO WAY! Big up Wifee and the children❤❤❤❤❤
Greetings Tyler and Sonia. Tyler, I understand totally. I used to feel bad for saying "I don't have any cash on me" but not since I set up a monthly direct debit to registered charity, a children's hospital and homelessness shelter here in the UK. I would be broke if I gave to everyone who asked for money. We are only human trying to do the best we can. 🎉
Tyler, part of me wish being a beggars magnet was actually based only on race, 😁 as that would make my life less stressful as a black person when visiting Jamaica. But persons, mostly correctly, identify being from or living/working abroad as having a little more extra funds than the average (not all) locals, plus likely more socialized by foreign culture to being more inclined to give. But to be fair, if you can identify how your race makes you more likely to be targeted for begging, I hope you are also aware of certain privileges that race probably also affords you. THAT is equally worthy of a conversation.
Tyler, you really should not have to explain yourself, going forward it should remain a simple “no” or a simple “I don’t have it”. Whenever I come on vacation and people stretch out their hands it’s always no!! People have picked up this really bad habit of begging, family does it too. My husband and I talk about it all the time. Annoying as hell!!

They think once you are a foreigner, you are simply rich...lol
If the shoe fits…🤣
Dont feel bad Tyler. it happens all the time, and sometimes we feel stress that we have to go through this again and again.

Interesting perspective, thanks for sharing...=)
Hey Tyler, you SHOULD have asked her, why in a room full of people she chose to ask you.
next time...=)
@ Haha!!
Ignorance, skin color judgment such a jamaican thing!!

They ask all foreigners from what I've seen.
I usually buy them food cos it cant be nice to be hungry😩
Blessings
I never give cash, if I can buy some food for a person I will, otherwise I say sorry I can’t help.

That's okay, Tyler. At least you admitted that you lied and apologized.
Giving is sweet
Very true...is giving perspective sweeter sometimes?

Short vlog can be interested 😊 Right Tyler 👦✔️
Tryin😎🤙
Fire and IRIE family home 🏡 welcome one an all 👌🏿
Tyler don't feel bad i live in Canada people beg all the time i say no all the time
Sounds good, just got to be comfortable not lying about it and just saying a simple no.😎🤙
When u give more come back to u and more blessing come on your kids if u believe ask your wife and see what she say
Agreed and choosing to give to whom I prefer is probably the balance needed
I prefer to give them food than cash

NYC... that's a whole other story...🤣
Tyler, don't feel bad, maybe she's a decoy and her accomplice is outside. You did the right thing.
Tyler, please don't feel bad. This is a form of bias, for lack of a better word, on her part. This attitude is an innate cultural bad habit.
Yea… comes with the territory, but a small price to pay…well not pay… you know what I mean!🥰🤙
Jamaicans do that a lot. Even a Black person shopping in the market, if u open your mouth with a Foreign accent it’s a bigger price ☹️
Sad but true… sometimes…😔

I would have had the conversation 😁
My chicken patty was getting cold...too soon for jokes? Yea, next time. = )
Lol, well I lie all the time then😂.cause I always don't have any money.
That’s the thing as I rarely ever have cash. So, yes, I don’t have any money😏
🤣

It’s a complex topic, for sure, and yes, well aware of my white male privilege, so it's not something I take lightly. Well said.

May I suggest you start the begging first. I tell them I got deported. 😂
