When I went to El Salvador with my mom to visit my oldest sister the outside of her house had these plants. I loved playing with them as a kid. It was so interesting and amazing to see. I want this plant now! lol
The plant uses this to scare away the insects that try to eat the leaves with the movement and to make it look smaller and less appetizing to bigger animals looking for a snack. It’s a pretty impressive tactic
Lol I touched one of these before though at a park but I purposely hold the leaves open when I touched it lol it still just wanna close and I can't even make it open
Called "Makahiya" ('bashfully-inclined' - literal english translation.) plant in the Philippines, in abundance in the cemetery area of my province in Magdalena, Laguna... As kids, we used to play with these and had friendly contests as to who can slowly break the stem, without allowing the leaves to fold! No winners on this, no matter how hard & careful we try! Trivia, most of the species we have there actually have the purple to lavander undercolor of the leaves which becomes apparent when they are folded. Fascinating plant because it actually moves by itself when touched. The actual English name it has in the Phil. is the "Touch Me Not" plant.😊
Interesting, thank you. It's after 2am, & as usual I can't sleep, so I'm flipping through TV channels and happened upon a scene where a person holding a small plant tells another, " here.. gently touch the leaves" etc, of course I miss the name...so Google, and again I'm led down the proverbial rabbit hole. Lol Your comment, led to looking up Magdalena, Laguna province in the Philippines, I took a nice tour by drone of the province, found out Fernando Poe Jr, known as the ‘Da King of Philippine Movies, town of Magdalena was one of his film set favourites..languages, history..etc etc. It's beautiful. Oh well, at least this rabbit hole lead to geography, history of the Philippines so it isn't useless facts I usually have a knack of retaining. Take care, Christmas is coming up so I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
The reason why it closes is becaused when we touched the plant, the specific parts of the plant released chemicals the chemicals caused the cells in the pulvini to lose water but when water is loss, there is no more turgor pressure as an result the cells collapsed which caused the leaf to closed
The leaves of these TickleMe Plants, I found on line, will close in the evening as well or when placed under a pot. My science students love growing these. I believe turgor (water pressure) in the cells change with stimulated by touch.
alphablood119 Actually, plants DO have somewhat of a response to “pain” If someone breaks off a limb or damages the plant in another way repeatedly it will start to release “stress” hormones. But yes, A plant doesn’t have a complicated biology (compared to animals) and has no nervous system so they’re not conscious in any way
Swordsmen use to give their swords a will of their own with plant extract potions so when an insidious humanoid impostor trespass in their area the sword would pivot on the frog and tip the swordsman to obey the sword draw the blade and slay the cunning monster, seldom having blood. Things like make the scabbard out of white oak or red maple next pour sorghum cold press milk down the scabbard mixed 50/50 with olive oil sword on hip balance 70/30. In Quest of the Holy Grail Potion~Good-luck!
I'm here from an article about plant learning. Apparently if you drop one of these, it folds up. But if you drop it a ton of times, it learns not to fold up anymore when dropped, but still folds when shaken.
does this plant carry any spiritual significance? cos anytime i touch it or pick some home good things happen to me .At first i thought its just coincidence but it has happed too many times
Ringcaat ok. That’s the equivalent of saying I feel bad for my floor because I step on it all the time. Plants have no brain of any kind. It’s technically alive as in it has cells. You don’t feel bad for all the microorganisms you kill when you drink water, do you?
My grandma had one of these in her yard that I would play with when I was a kid for hours on end :)
me too
ON GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah same OwO good ol days but mine are all gone T^T
My mom just said her mom cried because shethought she was lost when only my mom was playing with these

It is pretty smart
Thank you cool
It is also believed that the plant also balances fluid management in the leaves when touched. Though I was little, when I heard this.
i used to have one of these in my front yard. i was obsessed with just touching it and watching it close all the time as a kid.
i used to play with these in the philippines
Phosnerd
Makahiya
Same
Phosnerd Same
Me too whenever Im going to my grandma's place
Same but i cant find any more of those
There's something so satisfying playing with these plants. I used to get one every spring
It's BEAUTIFULLL to see it in ur video wid such closeups of the plant..
Very cool learning these have high concentrations of dmt and remembering playing with them as a kid. Kinda brings everything full circle.
I loved playing with these in Belize
I found these in a farmer's field in Mexico. I could not believe my eyes! No one told me about them I just stumbled across a wild patch. Amazing!
Lol I touched one of these before though at a park but I purposely hold the leaves open when I touched it lol it still just wanna close and I can't even make it open

سبحان الله الذي أبدع في خلقه💖💖
I remember when i was in 4 grade in my school in puerto rico i used to play with them. Dang memories

I Remember Seeing and Touching These Plants in COLOMBIA, South America🌱⛺
can i use this video for my online class?
Can i use your video for 3/4 seconds in my video.I will give you credit in describtion.
Interesting. What is it that receives the stimuli from touch ( I am guessing). Maybe it is a form of pressure sensitive cells... What do you think?
It has obviously got some kind of receptor cells on the leaves. The whole folding thing is probably for protecting the leaves.
it folds so when an animal is grasing, the leaves fold in and so the animal thinks there is not much to eat.
The leaves of these TickleMe Plants, I found on line, will close in the evening as well or when placed under a pot. My science students love growing these. I believe turgor (water pressure) in the cells change with stimulated by touch.
With how light the touch it, looks more like little hairs.
It has little hairs on the sides and under of its leaves which will react similar to a venus fly trap.
this video reminded me when i was 4 years old and i saw this and when i was 8 years old right now i finally found the plant that is so satasfying
I haven't done it yet I'd like to do if possible
My mimosa in my yard doesn't do this, I left it alone bc I felt bad pinching it.
Darren Murphy imagine the plant begins to moan
Jessica Wolfe no need to feel bad, plants are alive, but can’t feel pain nor even have feelings

Cool!
I'm an adult and still play with this plant. Lol.
In Bangladesh, we call it Lojjaboti gach or shy plant. Its very common and I even play with it at school

This plant is amazing🎉
If I saw a leaf like this every time it opens back up I would like to touch and watch it close its leafs anyone agree?
I too would be curious, but it seems a little cruel to tire it out like that.

Wow😮😮😍👏
After the 4th or 5th time, I'm just like OK, we get it!!
It doesn't have to be poked like that either. You can barely touch it and the leaves close.
I touched one at the park cause I was curious if It was this and it was and I said eww and never did my flips in the grass lol
