I'm a biology major and we had practicals with these plants, measuring their electric pulse etc. But after, we were allowed to take them home and mine has been thriving for a year now, even survived four spider mite infestations!
I am super elated to find this plant in Northeast Florida. I remember playing with it when I was a kid in Vietnam. Last year, I bought a few from my local nursery & plant them in sunny areas of my front of my house as a ground cover. From a few plants, it took about 3-4 months & it covered the whole area. It does spread onto sidewalks, so just trim back or contain the areas. I stepped on it, mowed, trimmed, no problem. In the winter, they died & turned browned, but in February, they started to come back. Now in March, it’s full, vibrant, alive & beautiful with pink powderpuff flowers. They are my favorite in the garden! I’m go g yo try to propagate them around anywhere to use as ground cover. I will not buy mulch again too. I think they are easy to propagate. I accidentally moved a flowering bush with some Mimosa & & just stuck them straight to the ground & they are thriving.
I got mine because it reminded my mom of her home in the philippines, where these grow wild, and i wanted to give her a bit more feeling like she was at home. They kept are very thirsty plants though, and I couldn't turn around twice before they needed water again. It seemed it was on it's last leg, so I decided to give the plant a try in Semihydro, as it was going to die either way. I hadn't found any info if you could actually keep Mimosa in semihydro, but lo and behold, it's been absolutely thriving and it's loving life now. It has easily doubled in size within a month and almost no more wilting at all. I told my mom about the change I made and she said "That makes sense, the plant only grew near rivers in the philippines". Would've been great info to start with..
My neighbors used to have one in Kenya. When I moved to Uganda I took some seeds with me and planted them in my yard, they thrived and kept growing and producing seeds and growing new ones and it kept getting bigger and bigger for the rest of the 5 years I lived there until it was a small bush.
I have one I've been growing since spring and now it has thorns and even a tiny cactus like thing on it! It's sprouted a couple flowers but none right now! I rarely touch him so he will grow big! Oh and his name is Bob
Great video! I just bought one and couldn’t understand why it had seed pods on it when I received in mail. Now I understand. It’s not a long term plant. So I’m thankful that it did have seed pods when I received so I can begin new plants in spring...Yay! Beautiful plant!
Never been good with pants. But, so far i've managed to keep an African Violet for 2 yrs now. So, I was happy to find mimosa in a flower shop. It's very small and the flower shop lady, in a scolding tone, told me to NOT place in a new pot until the roots come out of the small plastic pot it's in and to not over water it. It's been a week and it's still alive. Holding my breath. I'm in Canada, so for now, since it's been raining a lot these past few weeks, I keep in in my bay window. Not much sun it gets. So, hopefully, it won't die on me. Thanks for your video. Helped a lot and very interesting.
In Malaysia we called it 'semalu' ('shy' leaf). It's everywhere. I love to touch it one by one when I was a kid to play with anything. Hehe Great to see you have this video. Cherish my day to reevaluate my childhood memories! ♥
I am about to embark on growing my first sensitive plant and this video has provided invaluable information for the entire process. Thank you @LogeesPlants
Brought one of these in my trip to Chinatown yesterday. Got it for 5 dollars. The poor thing barely lasted being carried around the city all day but I gave it some water and put it outside so wish me luck 🍀
My mom's from Guatemala and during her childhood she would play with these plants :) theyre so cute! they remind me of me because I'm shy hehe. Thank you so much for this video
Growing up in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, I saw Mimosa trees here and there. For some reason, some folks didn't care too much for them ... and I thought that rather odd, given the wonderful fragrance of their flowers. That fragrance always reminded me of Jasmine or something else that is similarly intensely floral ... Oh, I love it.
In Cuba is called Dormidera plant. It means Sleepy plant. Sooo cute!! It grows wild in borders anywhere in Havana. Thanks for explaining how to grow them out of their natural habitat.
Here in Indonesia specially in Java island we call it 'putri malu' or in west Java (Sunda) we call specifically as 'jukut riut' - a grass which can move ...😃
Love that video! You inspired me to grow some myself but instead of pudica I chose hostilis for obvious reasons^^ Keep it growing, Greets from Germany 💚
South Central Pa i have a few in the yard . I put one in a pot yesterday , thought it had died cause the leaves had just closed up after dark ...., but opened back up in the morning ......Cool
This looks like a tiny version of this tree that grows in my neighbors yard across the street. I used to pick up the fallen leaves and pull all of the leaves off the stem because it was satisfying (it didn’t do the shy thing where it closes up). I hope it wasn’t the same plant because now I feel terrible. I was a kid when I’d do it, now I’m 21 and there’s a tree growing in my moms garden right against the house LOL
Can these grow from cuttings? I have one that's been thriving, but it's got one very long stalk that I'd like to trim down, but down lower to the base it's not really got any branches, and the long branch that it has is very full and has lovely leaves so I'd like to know if I can trim it off the main stalk and replant it, maybe try to encourage it to grow more bushy and less leggy?
I live in Texas and right now in summer through spring you can't see some grass unless its fake without these plants I found so many frigging seed pods
Omg new subscriber here i am a nature lover qnd i post most of nature buugs fruiys plants vedio this touch me not plant is my fav thts y i came n to ur chnnel and moat of fruits and veggies u share am seeing tht for the 1 st tme 😍😍😍😍😍😍wonderful
Very heardy. I got depressed and left mine in a sunny Southside Texas window. It turned yellow, dropped leaves, and now looks happier than before it's drought.
I think a hundred million people consider it a weed, and definatly not difficult to grow, and the million people that grow it indoors are like, wow this thing does not like water=difficult. Here where I live if you make the mistake of tossing seeds onto dry ground, youll have a patch in a week or two. It is anything but difficult to grow, its far more difficult to stop it from growing.
These actually grow in the wild in Florida. never planted them and never cared for them. They're fun to watch spread though

I have success growing mine in Seramis - it is growing really high (like 1.5m) but this is probably because it's not really standing in bright sunlight (it's a north-east windows to be specific) - it produces flowers too but sadly those only last 1 day / 2 days most
What about if I plant a field of mimosa pudica, where every plant is really near to each other so they can touch? If I touch a plant on the corner are every plants going to move like a chain!?
can you show any more video about pruning with more details. I grown some after lots of struggle. them are growing taller & taller lots of bud also came out. Thanks
Unfortunately I have a watering problem with my Mimosa. Many leaves have wilted and fallen off but it’s not dead and I haven’t given up hope. I feel like I’m watering it alot to remedy the wilted leaves but I’ll probably cut back and see what happens ❤️
Great informative video. I am currently germinating some seeds. May I ask what plant is in the background (variegated leaf colour?in the rust pot behind your left shoulder)? Thank you.
I forgot to look at mine for a week and died from the brutal sun and no water. My freaking tomatoes survived this period of negligence. If I ever buy another one I'll worry less about over watering!
Could be the are susceptible to root disease which tis encouraged by consistently damp root. Give full sun and grow a little dryer. Just don’t put them in to a sever wilt.
If they are indoors, do they still lose their leaves in the winter? I have a baby one that's about 3 inches long and one of the leaves is turning kind of light light green instead of deep dark green like the rest of the leaves
I just got one, in a pot, a couple days ago- it was looking beautiful for past couple of days, but this morning it never opened up, even after being in the sun. Perhaps I watered it too much. But the leaves all look super wilted but are also brown and crispy? Not sure how to proceed!!

Nice.. I have some seeds I am about to plant it now.
if you touch it too much, it will stay small?
🤣🤣🤣 Bob haha lovely I'm naming one of mine Dilan

Mimosa's grow wild in Texas everywhere
Here in Philippines we called that "makahiya" (Shy) 😁
now we called grass
I grow and turn them into bonsai trees! Very fun!!! And I haven’t had problems
Back in Kerala we used to call it “thottaa vaady”. We used to use its leaves for small skin tears and all
Really informative! Going to try my hand at a Mimosa Pudica bonsai while my magnolia bonsai is still growing.
It’s a wild flower/plant and or weed in the Philippines 🇵🇭 too. We played a lot of it when we were kids😍😍😍.
In Cuba is called Dormidera plant. It means Sleepy plant. Sooo cute!! It grows wild in borders anywhere in Havana. Thanks for explaining how to grow them out of their natural habitat.
We used to play a lot with these plants in childhood... It's a common plant in India and grows wildly.
I live in the tropics and this plant is considered a weed. It is very very invasive so be careful if taking it outdoors in warm weather
Its all over the place in Texas
You're a beautiful man and I could watch you talk about plants for hours
Thank you for this great video. It helped in knowing how to prune
my mimosa
Here in Indonesia specially in Java island we call it 'putri malu' or in west Java (Sunda) we call specifically as 'jukut riut' - a grass which can move ...😃
Love that video! You inspired me to grow some myself but instead of pudica I chose hostilis for obvious reasons^^
Keep it growing,
Greets from Germany 💚
It's really a beautiful plant, I saw it for the first time last week when I touched its leaves it was spectacular..😍😍👍🏻🌱🌿🐦
Helpful video, thank you! Hoping to keep my mimosa alive!
best like to dislike ratio i've seen in a while, great video.
There're so many of these in my grandma's back yard. They're such a plague in our potted plants. :') But I've taken a few home to braid and grow. :D
This is the best medicine ever!
South Central Pa i have a few in the yard . I put one in a pot yesterday , thought it had died cause the
leaves had just closed up after dark ...., but opened back up in the morning ......Cool
Very informative video, just what I needed! Thanks!!
Thank you. The watering I would never guess.
Thanks best instructions so far.

In my country , there are so many that plants , they grow near by the lake 😍
Will these plants die in winter if planted outside?
Great video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
In Jamaica we call it Shame Old Lady or Shy Old Lady. Fave childhood plant.
You mean second favorite childhood plant though, truthfully speaking.....about Jamaica.....

A difficult to grow weed? Interesting.

Thank you for the video! Very informative
When it’s growing in full sun I only let the top dry before watering again, it’s growing vigorously.
These actually grow in the wild in Florida. never planted them and never cared for them. They're fun to watch spread though

Any chance of a new video about germinating the seeds?
nature you can't change🙏😇
incredibly informative video, thank you very much!!
Thank you for your teachings
Thank you, very helpful.
That looks so cool you have a new subscriber
Was gonna try to root the cutting, good suggestion about height.
Fantastic, thanks for the video. Could you make one on feeding her?
Thank you! It was very informative!)
Found some in my yard and I want it in my house
Very good video, thanks for sharing. one question: my sensitive plant leaves falling off and turn yellow, any tips for me? thank you!
How often are you watering it?
What about if I plant a field of mimosa pudica, where every plant is really near to each other so they can touch? If I touch a plant on the corner are every plants going to move like a chain!?
most likely!
What if you inoculate the root system with mycorrhizae and beneficial microbes, would that help prevent root rot?
can you show any more video about pruning with more details. I grown some after lots of struggle. them are growing taller & taller lots of bud also came out. Thanks
We will pass your suggestion onto Byron! Thank you!
Wow very nice beautiful videos
Many thanks! :)
Unfortunately I have a watering problem with my Mimosa. Many leaves have wilted and fallen off but it’s not dead and I haven’t given up hope. I feel like I’m watering it alot to remedy the wilted leaves but I’ll probably cut back and see what happens ❤️
Just bought one today, thanks for your informative video!! 🪴🪴🪴
Thanks I just started to grow some.
Very informative! Thank you!
Everyone not from New England is like, "Mimosa Pudiker?"
Very beautiful touch me not plant 👍👍👌🤗🙏🏿
New friend from India is watching 🤗🤗🙏🏿🙏🏿
Great informative video. I am currently germinating some seeds. May I ask what plant is in the background (variegated leaf colour?in the rust pot behind your left shoulder)? Thank you.
Not exactly sure, but it looks like it might be one of our Bonsai trees.
How far away from my house should I plant one? I already planted one but now I think maybe it’s too close to the house. Thanks for any help
In Thailand, it is the grass on the side of the road.
Very interesting, thanks.
Nice thanks from Bangladesh
I forgot to look at mine for a week and died from the brutal sun and no water. My freaking tomatoes survived this period of negligence. If I ever buy another one I'll worry less about over watering!
Thanks for the great information.
i have this plant and the leaves are turning yellow..too much water maybe?..thanks
Could be the are susceptible to root disease which tis encouraged by consistently damp root. Give full sun and grow a little dryer. Just don’t put them in to a sever wilt.
shy plant, this is very abundant in Indonesia
I have this I like it a ton it's a very cold plant
What is the cute ivy to the right!!!?
ill have to try that spidermite hack!!! you could make a full video just on that & i guarantee it would get views
Hi I saw those plants yesterday at Houston when I touch them they go to sleep
Thank you so much ♥️
I'm going to growing one these but my house has terrible sun so I'm thinking about using a plant light
Is that okay?
Yes
Am I weird that I don’t like pruning plants? It sounds stupid but I feel bad doing it, and hindering it’s natural growth 😅
If they are indoors, do they still lose their leaves in the winter? I have a baby one that's about 3 inches long and one of the leaves is turning kind of light light green instead of deep dark green like the rest of the leaves
In the Philippines, these are just weed and we pull it off from our garden 😅
Thank you ♥️ I'm giving it a go this week what soil is best we are in the UK though
Any well-draining soil which is free from any sort of fertilizers is perfect!
@@LogeesPlants Ouch already planted in it yet will see the difference with top soil etc and using various lighting a bit of a project now...Thankyou 🥰
I just got one, in a pot, a couple days ago- it was looking beautiful for past couple of days, but this morning it never opened up, even after being in the sun. Perhaps I watered it too much. But the leaves all look super wilted but are also brown and crispy? Not sure how to proceed!!
how long it takes to sprout from seed ?
A few days. They are quick
Hello. Can I grow this plant in Florida?
Have this plant but don’t understand where the SEEDS come from look at the Pink Flowers after they dried out but no Seed ? 🤔
Is it bad if you keep touching it all the time?
In an old house I used to live at we had a mimosa tree It never did that tho . Mimosas are my favorite flower tho
There is a lot of those plants here in Guyana south America
Thanks for shareing
Thank you👌
Mine are growing so slow! Last year I had no issues. Same batch of seeds. Maybe I’m watering too much
