I really enjoy your low-key, conversational tone very much. I happened to watch this video New Year's Eve from a little west of Cleveland OH at 10pm. As I was watching, the rain against my west-facing window sounded like it was turning to an icy mix. I paused to check the radar and indeed, we were getting a mix. I could see it turning into snow a few miles away on the radar. It was 61 degrees the day before yesterday and bitterly cold around Thanksgiving! So much odd weather. I'm more than a little concerned about my son. He needs to drive from here to Lancaster PA on Jan 6th and back on Jan 9. Then, before the end of the month, he needs to go to Grand Rapids MI!
I’m worried about how hard W NC & E TN will be. There are people in tents, donated RVs, campers and tiny homes - many of those with no electricity and not set up for serious cold. I am truly worried people may die out there of hypothermia. I’m talking 1,000s of displaced people. They were caught unaware of Helene, sure don’t want them to be unaware of polar temps that they very rarely ever see there.
I remember 76-77 well because I was in Scottsboro, Al for six months. It was so cold there in the hills of NE Alabama that lakes were starting to freeze. Not too far, up in Chattanooga, TN, it was frozen & they were getting big snows. I had to drive up every couple weeks. Cold in December through March in that area. It was in a dry county. I think Jackson county & not easy to get a beer for cheap but you could find bootlegger lol

A deep snowpack creates subzero readings even during the day i would not be suprised to see 20 and 30 degree below zero temperatures especially interior michigan Wisconsin area etc. I believe also big storms through the spring as well a pattern we haven't seen in years

It’s extremely important that this arctic airmass stay centralized as it drops into North America and not continue to slide off to the east. We have it right where we want it at the moment but these air masses in the past have always trended east. I’m in San Antonio, and as for another repeat of 2021? It’s way too early to say. I’m watching the latest 18z model runs which is coming out as I type this. Crossing my fingers that they continue to show this storm in Texas around the 8th-10th. If we can get this storm, we will automatically have the cold for frozen precipitation 👍

And just like that, the latest 18z GFS completely takes away our southern storm on the 9th-10th. Slides that arctic air mass east just as I feared. However, to take this run seriously would be foolish. 2 runs ago (4am this morning), it didn’t have it either. We have plenty of time to watch it.
We really need that positive PNA to relax, its the reason why these arctic airmasses, since Late November kept sliding east. Lets see what the 00z does 😐 Tired of that Sh$# to be honest.
I has been my observation, here in NW Arkansas over the past 24 years, that we get a bad lingering snow/ice storm when there is a mild La Nina. Not every mild La Nina produces the bad frozen stuff, but every time we have it is when there is a mild La Nina.
WHY DID YOU ONLY SHOW THE CENTER OF THE NATIONS FREEZING TEMPS ? WE IN FLORIDA ARE DESPERATE FOR MORE INFO FOR OURSELVES BECAUSE WE ARE THE GROWING CENTER FOR FOOD FOR THE SOUTHEAST. SHOW US THE TEMPS AND WIND CHILL NUMBERS PLEASE.
I live in NW Pa (Just South (20miles) of Pittsburgh. IMO There’s a 95% chance My Region does NOT get a memorable Snow Event (meaning 3-5+ inches of Snow) i would even say likely just a coating or furries IF that! I have lost ALL FAITH in these hyped up Models. They are 99% always on the Aggressive side only to change to the lesser and baseline means. Now the “Usual Suspects sure I believe are likely to see some event (thats Mountains/higher elevations, and the New England States like N.H., Vermont, Maine ect..) the only other way i see this going is the Arctic air mass brings too much dry air for the Ohio Valley, North East and a Southern Slider kind of event happens for Mountains WV, Virginia, NC, type. As a Winter Snow Lover, I can only dream of atleast one Memorable Snowfall like when i was a kid growing up in 70’s -80’s and even Blizzard of 93’ but I would bet a big mouthful NW Pa gets nothing but a BIG LET DOWN, and flurries from Lake effect or back end Systems!
