I've had a number of semi-solid body nylon string guitars over the years, and this sounds like they did. It's really the only way you can get that sound on a loud stage, which is the application for a guitar like this. Also, nylon string guitars are very expressive, but the strings can get overloaded with too much input from the right hand and sound twangy. If you use a pick, you have to be very controlled and use a different pick angle. It's not the same technique as with a steel string guitar. You have to play these for years to get that distinctive tone.
Avoid placing the microphone directly in front of the sound hole, as it will overwhelm the mic with bass frequencies. The sound hole on this guitar is primarily for the player, not ideal for recording. This instrument is best recorded when plugged in. We used the mics for reference to showcase its acoustic sound, but it's quite weak in that regard and not the recommended method for recording.
I would suggest going and listening to / watching videos of Tim playing the guitar himself. That will show more of what this guitar was created to sound like and the reason behind it. I wouldn't pick this guitar to play simple chords and treat it like a normal acoustic guitar. It's created for Tim's style which is why it's his signature. Sounds great when he plays it.
Oh maaaaan. YES. Tim Henson is unbelievable and so is this guitar. 😳
Sounds really nice! Wouldn't mind have it at all. Without a doubt play it a whole lot just sitting around noodling.
Cool ❤

Called “Tree of Death” vs Steve Vai’s “Tree of Life” signature.
Question: Shouldn't you mic in front of the sound hole? So shouldn't a lapel mic have been a better position?

Good playing, but that instrument does not sound good to my ears.
All due respect to Tim as an artist, but that instrument sounds like a toy. This can’t be where guitar is heading. Please.
