@@ArcticPhilharmonic But it was the performance that made it that way! I love listening to it! I hope to be able to listen to all of you in a concert hall, one day!

We have played this piece a lot, as most Norwegian orchestras have, so we tend to go a bit overboard with the tempo and have some fun with it. This was also kind of a “Last night of the Proms” concert, with the audience in a festive mood 😉
@@ArcticPhilharmonic Yes, well aware. And I know the basic plot of Peer Gynt, but it never occurred to me that there were actually lyrics to this particular piece. I looked them up - trolls aren't very nice! :D
i was a singer, bass, in a small group. we sang tough stuff . this gathering of all the musicians here,,, i have to say, including people singing,, because some people are stupid. are amazing. my guess these people were not fucking around, at all,,,,, amazing, so well done,,, i had my speakers up,,,, very high,,, treat group!!!!!
So good to hear it with a chorus. IIRC, the outbursts from the chorus at the end say (in Norwegian, I assume) "KILL HIM!! KILL HIM!!" It seems the Mountain King is not happy that Peer Gynt has seduced his daughter. Peer is the main character but definitely not a hero. (If you are a fan of classical music and have never heard the entire work with chorus and soloists, it is a fabulous experience. I especially like the songs of the goat girls as they tell their bloody revenge on the men who betrayed them.)
And it is NOT the mountain king that demands to slay Peer. It is his subjects who want to turn Peer into a broth, pull out his hair, and torture him. The Mountain king actually exclaims "Ice in your blood!" Meaning : "cool it, guys, calm down!"
I must have listened to this clip 100 + times. Nowhere near enough credit is given to these orchestras and choirs for the precision and skill they display. Not to mention the hours neigh, years of practice it must have taken to reach this standard. Beautiful
Saber dance, fuir, Luna, morning mood, flight of the bumble bee, etc etc etc. There are so many great stories being told through sound. Absolutley amazing as always.
This has to be one of the greatest short compositions ever written. The calm before the storm (CAT 5 Hurricane Strength) parallels the genius of only a select few in documentated musical history.
I love watching attempts to perform this. This group makes the fast part truly frenetic~ its great. I just wish the sound in the hall let me hear a little more of the choir's articulation.
@@ArcticPhilharmonic i'm sure it sounded glorious live, but yeah, the mic setup is capturing too much hall decay. Thanks for the upload, regardless. Its probably close to my favourite tempo interpretation, and one of the few that include the chorus.
Kinda reminds me about a friend I have...the FedEx guy came to her door, she eventually went to get the box soon after, but she didn't hear the screen door shut - then she heard her dog's paws on the door - and then dashed out! At first it's, "did I just hear my dog-" Then my friend runs outside, TOP SPEED in her pj's!! Her dog finally stops at a fire hydrant, and she gets her dog! It's just the calmness...into instant AAGGGHHHHHH!!! 😆😆🤣🤣 Bless her heart. 😁

Its because it is! Its from a play and honestly I always prefer The Hall of The Mountain King with the lyrics. They are quite morbid.
