You assign for local 1 Direction (X), local 2 Direction (Y), and local 3 Direction (z). If spring constant is assigned for plane XZ, YZ, and XY, you you should assign area spring for local 1,2, and 3 direction respectively. For example, spring constant is assigned in plane XY, so it is projected to z direction or local 3 direction.
