Thank you for posting this comprehensive assessment of PPG trike mirrors. You hit on every main point and advantages which I have enjoyed for years. I would not consider operating my trike without one. I am fortunate that my instructor steered me in that direction from day one.

Throttle check and Helmet strap. Thanks for the tip. I had the same instructor and have the same equipment. And still have the same desire to foot launch. Would love to meet in person and fly sometime with you and the other sky walkers. We're within an hour of eachother.
Great point! Supper useful seeing the wing as soon as possible. This is the beauty of reverse launch that I love so much. I was having some difficulty turning my head and looking for the wing during forward launches in training. I would look for the wing and forget to run lol. It took me some time to learn to keep moving forward while looking for the wing, foot launching by the way. I even came up with the idea of placing a small mirror on the helmet that would give you a view of the wing when forward launching. The idea was that this mirror could then be removed or swung out of the way once in the air. I remedied this by using the motor to give me the forward movement during launch. Perhaps a little more risky but once you have great throttle control it is so helpful to keep your forward momentum by using some power while getting the wing overhead. After a while you can simply feel the wing off to one side or the other in the early stages and muscle memory automatically kicks in and I find myself making the proper adjustments very early before I can really see the wing. On a trike you probably don't have as much input from the wing so seeing it with a mirror is huge! Thanks for the video.

Hey Crazy !!! great video... I have never flown with the mirror :( we had the same instructor and same training without the helmet... I always wear a helmet now and you are absolutely correct about not being able to see the wing until its overhead and then making the necessary corrections. I bought a mirror a while back but never installed it on the trike...with a name like Scary... you dont want to see your reflection any more than ya have to lol ;) but after watching your video im going to install that mirror and cant wait to find out the difference it makes... thank you for sharing ;)

Hey David...I’ll be buying my paramotor equipment from Kurt Pfister later this fall and am really interested in the mirror as I have had a stroke and fast movements like looking up and forward quickly will cause me to loose my equilibrium and disorient me. Can you give me the info on the mirror and mounting bracket? I think it will be just what I will need!
No chin starp...right? I use a mirror on my trike and was told (by the same "trainer" not to wear a helmet not to use a mirror) that no mirror is necessary. Been flying ultalights and regular aircraft for a long time and I alway looked down the runway...just had a hard time looking up and maintaining that while going down the runway. Used a mirror and it made all the difference...much easier. The mirror you use works good, and I used that for a long time. However, I didn't like where it is mounted...it is turns when you turn your the front wheel. I went to a smaller mirror (about 2.5" dia.) and attach it using a "Ram Mount" to my front wheel support tube. In that location it is fixed and doesn't move. The smaller mirror is really all you need. Now let me bring up another point: Foot launchers don't need a mirror because they can "feel" the wing...is that right... and trike fliers don't have that feed back? Stone859 I felt that helmet strap hitting me and fastened it while in flight. Correct about foot launchers and many trikes with out high hang points are connected to their harness and can feel the wing come up and how it reacts because they are hiding the A’s.

I do not see the benefit to look at the wing when I need to look at where im going or I eat it. I think its better to learn to 'see' it by feel as I would rather look at the scenery than looking at the wing. A mirror is only used to see the remaining fuel and that doesnt happen that often.
I always thought the trike mirrors had something to do with the wing. I learned something. Thanks for sharing.

Great tip for Trikers. I hated my trike it was set up badly but it did have a mirror. That was the one thing that was done correct on it. Thanks David

Bryan Knepper eight inch mirror from any auto store with a small L bracket and a hose clamp. That’s all you need.
