I’ve been carrying this knife for about 3 months and it’s a great knife. The blade doesn’t stay sharp for super long but it stays sharp enough to cut things with ease. Sharpening this blade is fairly easy. It’s also a good fidget toy lol

Just got one for Christmas and I like it, its held up well and sharpens nicely. I like the size and its a cool looking knife. As you said the steel quality could be better but for the price point it's nice and works really well.

I've seen a few nice looking knives recently from Gerber like the Straightlace and Flatiron and I really like the look of the Sumo, but I'm honestly not a fan of the blade steel.
I'm not a steel snob, but it's a bit iffy for me.
That said, I have a Mini Paraframe that is probably the most used knife I have as I just use it instead of my EDC for basic tasks.
I do wish they'd come out with a solid folder that is on par with the Strongarm.

Big bang for the buck. D2 or 14c28n would be nice. But at this price I can't pass it up.

Just picked one of these up today and I love it. Very affordable too for such a good looking quality blade. Love the axis lock too. This is gonna be my new edc knife

The cyan version looks pretty good too! Both are roughly 42 beans on amazon

They desperately need to improve the quality of the steel, perhaps skanvik 12c or 14c. Some thumb studs will also be nice. I've heard many complaints about the pocket clip and a sharpness of the blade out of the box as being not the best. I hope Gerber is listening.

I just realized that because of the lock, the cyan version would match my Benchmade Griptilian 555 that i got from my dad as a late birthday gift!!

i picked up one of these a while back. really great knife for the price. super comfortable to hold and work with and having the nice lock on it makes it feel nice and secure. even if the steel isnt the best id still recommend for a big beater.

Considering the price point and what i paid for a Gerber Bolt Action knife as a kid almost 45 years ago I'm not going to complain about the steels in it.
I've dicked around with it as an EDC knife for roughly 8 months now.
Only thing I'd like to see is a deeper/flared out butt area similar to a Buck 110. But I've got xl to 2xl hands.

Nice design but at that price they could have used D2. Even if the price increased slightly I'd buy one but that steel is is too sub-par for me.

Gerber, if you put it in a decent steel I will buy it. It's a great design, just poor steel.

Steel won't matter if the knife falls apart during use. Build quality is more important. You can still sharpen cheap steel.

Iv never had any major issues with Gerber's quality control. I have an old one that is about 15 years old and still works great

The shape sorta reminds me on a Spyderco Shaman (my favorite carry knife). I may pick one up to carry around the farm.

That is indeed a great looking knife. I'm not a huge fan of that steel either but it's perfectly functional and at a good price point. I'm gonna order one.

I would probably buy one if it had better blade steel,7Cr just doesn’t do it for me...I don’t dip below D2 and rarely even buy D2 knives in this day and age though D2 is acceptable

May I ask what you do that requires better than d2? Because you make up the 1%

Cool looking knife. I like the taper of the knife. The steel quality however could be better and would be a pass for me. Great review

I love knives better than shoes or stupid purses. Also, has your wife ever carried the vanquest addax 25? I want one but wanted a female perspective.

Bummer they didn't make the blade out of something stronger than peanut butter

So it is Spyderco Shaman knock off, mimicking the color and lock of a super freek.... With a sub par steel. 🙄😒

Nice review on a good looking knife.
I just took a chance on Gerber for the first time with their Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folder. US produced and almost $100 with a totally worthless edge. It wasn't just a quick tune up, like your experience.
Hey Gerber...selling knives that don't cut is like selling guns that don't fire or cars that don't drive. 👎
