People always say why don't you just buy a 250 etc, with all the money you put into iit but the fun is restoring these bikes. I have three sons and restored three CRF 50 and 70's to mint condition. My Sons now at 12, 9 and 6 can Basically build a dirt bike and I am nowhere near Bullshitting. I taught them since they were 4 yrs old. Best Hobby and fun u can have. Great Job !!!!!
It's so tough to find good aftermarket parts now for CRF50s...since the popular "pit bike" is a 110 now. That swing arm I have doesn't even exist anymore. Good luck with your build!
Yes, it is a 10". It's the stock rim. I just picked up a heavy duty 10" anodized black to match the front. I have to find the time to make that change.
It depends what you're wanting out of the bike. If you wanna go tear up some tracks and out riding in the hills, I'd say stick to a bigger bike. If you're looking just to put around and aren't too worried about speed then hook up your 50. But, that's just my thoughts. I've put way too much into mine and I barely ride it. But, it definitely doesn't make sense to sell it because I'd just be throwing away too much money. It's fun when I wanna take it out.
I'm not sure 100% if you can or can't use the stock shock on the BBR swing arm. I think the aftermarket swingarm may create a different/longer mounting point, so you may need an aftermarket shock, like an iShock. If you've got the swingarm, I'm sure you'll want a heavier duty shock as well.
Wish i had video of back in the day riding it... LOL I'm 10 years older now and about 50lbs heavier. Not as graceful anymore. And my balls to the wall mentality is now, "honey, you mind if I keep my balls in your purse" mentality! LOL I will try to get some vids just burning around the neighborhood with it soon. Currently working 6-12's out of town, so I have absolutely no time for the bike...
Liked the video,my kids have a honda crf 70 1984 model. I just wanted to know if i can do these suspension mods to there bike and if so what brand or type of stuff do i buy im in melb also are parts honda or can i use what i want money is a consideration as well. Thanks for your time any help is much appreciated
I'm looking to get into dirt biking. I have a 48cc 4 stroke gas bike that I work on so I understand the components of the engines but I still have a lot of questions. I would want to get a pit bike / little bike to just ride around my neighborhood and get on the little trails in my canyon like my friends do on 50s, 70s, and 100s. I can't decide on what bike to get; I have two on my mind, the Honda XR70 and the Honda XR50. I weigh about 130 lbs and I'm 5'6. I know both of those bikes wouldn't be the correct size but I don't want to overwhelm a motor and blow it up or break a component because of my size. I also am concerned about insurance, I'm not sure how much insurance is or how it really works with dirt bikes. Overall all I want is a little fun thing...
T Getz I don't believe you would brake a 50 because of your size, as far as insurance my bike (a 2012 ttr 110) doesn't have any. If you are looking for cheap but reliable options welsh pit bikes has some great 110's for a low price, their website is here: www.wpbracing.co.uk/stomp-pitbikes-price-guide
The Honda motors are Bullet proof. Keep up on the oil changes and you'll be fine. I'm 200lbs and haven't had a motor issue at all. The only thing I would recommend is upgrading the fork springs and rear shock to accommodate for your weight. Also for comfort I'd also get the big handlebars upgrade kit to make it feel better. Even with the 70 I would do the same upgrades. Good luck...
i had a crf50 we did an 88 big bore kit a big pipe a carb the same as yours and a racing cam u need to put a cam in yours it improves the power crasily
Matt Carroll i just bought an xr50r honda and i cant keep it running it runs high rpm and then low rpm without adjusting the idle screw what can i do to fix this
I love this bike. I have a question hopefully you'll help me brother. I have a 2015 stock crf 50 and I notice all fmf core pipes for 2015 crf 50's stick way out like you mentioned in your video. I love that your fmf core pipe is hidden and does not stick out. Will this same fmf pipe fit on my 2015 crf 50? If it would fit what year is this fmf exhaust pipe ? I need to order one ASAP. Thanks for any input brother! #teamhonda
Cause Merica the front forks are Sano Bombshell and the swingarm is a Lahaye Racing 3” extendend swingarm. I don’t believe either of them are still around. I got the swing arm new but the forks I found on Craigslist.
Does the after market cdi really give it a little bit more power? I'm planning on buying one just for my bike to rev higher and make it sound a little better so is it worth buying a performance cdi?
The forks are Sano Bombshell forks. I think they're the 2nd Generation. I got em off of a Craigslist Ad. They retailed for like $1200 I think, but I got them from the dude for $300 with the 12" heavy duty rim and disc brake! SCORE! LOL
Wait what type of forks do you have? I’ve been looking everywhere for new forks for my 2004 crf50. Rn I have the fast 50’s but they still aren’t that good. What type do you have?
They are Sano Bombshell Forks. During that "Era" they were one of the best forks/manufacturers around for aftermarket parts on 50's. But have been long gone for over a decade now. I was lucky to find them on Craigslist back in the day and got the triple clamps, bar mounts, forks and the 12" front wheel with tube and tire for $500. I think the forks alone back then were over $500 alone.
It was one of the only single "mono swing arms" out when I bought it back in 2003. For the price I like it, but the design is a little shotty. Had to do some modding/grinding to make it fit. But it did the job and gave some awesome travel and looked way better than the cheaper 2" extended swing arms like fast 50's, BBR 2" extended swing arm, Sano 2" extended swing arm, etc. Didn't want the drop tubes of those kinds. Wanted the full MX Bike look.
Nate Dogg I have an ishock on mine. It's actually a shock for a Honda 70CRF but it's because I have the extended swing arm. The ishock line seems to be the most popular one for any rear shock upgrade on a 50 though.
jim bob I’m not 100% but I would imagine the frame accepts most of not all 50 sized forks. Stock ones are non inverted forks and have very minimal travel (obviously kids don’t need much travel). But there are lots of after market 50 forks out there. The inverted are going to be higher priced. Just depends what you need.
Colton Lee No kidding. A friend of mine bought one and within a few laps his rear brake was locked & smoking. The peg mount bent down so far that the rear brake lever was being applied. That was the first of about a dozen things we found wrong with it after a couple of hours. I built my CRF50 the right way also. Expensive? Maybe, that thing will last through my kids & my grandchildren easily. I still rip it up every now & then.
Liked the video,my kids have a honda crf 70 1984 model. Got a 2002 xr50 for my son and after seeing yours I want to get his looking right. Love the look of yours with the swingarm and suspension
It's so tough to find good aftermarket parts now for CRF50s...since the popular "pit bike" is a 110 now. That swing arm I have doesn't even exist anymore. Good luck with your build!
Sounds fun, but I won't be traveling to KY for that. LOL Sorry! Thanks for the invite! I look forward to seeing some vids of the ride!
My friend owns a XR 50 and it runs so smooooooooooth
Can’t believe you didn’t start it for us! Good video none the less. Thanks
Yes, it is a 10". It's the stock rim. I just picked up a heavy duty 10" anodized black to match the front. I have to find the time to make that change.
This will bring a nice bill today’s market
Very nice looking build man!

Love it! I ride a chinese z50 clone and I'm in love with it.
Defenatly keep that bro
Sweet 50!!! You should post a video of you riding it.

Matt Carroll okay cool, since commenting, I've gotten an SSR 110DX for $100 on Craigslist and it runs perfectly, I'm looking to get a 50 anyways too.
Donald Trump I already got an SSR 110DX as mentioned in my comment
What a fun little bike.. Just put a deposit on a "13 CRF50 ... can't wait to mod it with my daughter hehe...
i had a crf50 we did an 88 big bore kit a big pipe a carb the same as yours and a racing cam u need to put a cam in yours it improves the power crasily

Matt Carroll i just bought an xr50r honda and i cant keep it running it runs high rpm and then low rpm without adjusting the idle screw what can i do to fix this
Do a start up and ride
Is there any cheap front forks that raise the bike and add hight to it
would a 110cc pitbike rear swing arm and shock fit a 50 frame?
I love this bike. I have a question hopefully you'll help me brother.

is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo srot
Hey Matt Carrol what suspension modifications have you made?
Cause Merica the front forks are Sano Bombshell and the swingarm is a Lahaye Racing 3” extendend swingarm. I don’t believe either of them are still around. I got the swing arm new but the forks I found on Craigslist.
Matt Carroll thank you!
I'm close to the $2000 mark. Pretty crazy to think it was possible to even do that! Lol. That's why it will never be worth it to sell the bike.
Does the after market cdi really give it a little bit more power? I'm planning on buying one just for my bike to rev higher and make it sound a little better so is it worth buying a performance cdi?
Jealous of the 70 triple clamps
curious where I would purchase these modded parts. I am going to purchase new crf50 this week. great video. thanks.
Brian Moore you can get a lot of parts online and at your local Honda or dirt bike shop
I cannot find that rear shock assembly anywhere. Any one have an idea where I can find something to change the rear shock mounting point on my sons
It definitely seems as if the 50 market went away and all focus for aftermarket parts in on the 110 market. Good luck on your search!
what swing arm do you have on it?
did you have to change the tank to put the different plastics on or no?
Plastics bolt up to the same tank. It's original.
do you like the lahaye swingarm??
i have a 50 and i wanna start putting mods into it or should i just buy a better bike ?
can I use the stock shock on my bbr swing arms?
what forks did you put on your 50 and where did you get them @matt carroll
The forks are Sano Bombshell forks. I think they're the 2nd Generation. I got em off of a Craigslist Ad. They retailed for like $1200 I think, but I got them from the dude for $300 with the 12" heavy duty rim and disc brake! SCORE! LOL
how tall is that bike
Wait what type of forks do you have? I’ve been looking everywhere for new forks for my 2004 crf50. Rn I have the fast 50’s but they still aren’t that good. What type do you have?
Nicholas Nelms they are Sano Bombshell forks. Got em off a kid on Craigslist. Not sure if they’re even produced anymore.
how much money did u spend (without the bike's price)
I want to build a crf50 just like that
From his experience which bike recommended me....
yamaha TTR 50 or Honda CRF 50? what bike is better? i don't know!!! D:
Where did you get the forks
They are Sano Bombshell Forks. During that "Era" they were one of the best forks/manufacturers around for aftermarket parts on 50's. But have been long gone for over a decade now. I need that swingarm
How could I make my xr 70 like that
It was one of the only single "mono swing arms" out when I bought it back in 2003. For the price I like it, but the design is a little shotty. Had to do some modding/grinding to make it fit. how much do you want for it
Fmf is the way to go I run it on my 2 and 4 strokes
What's a good rear shock upgrade?
Nate Dogg I have an ishock on mine. It's actually a shock for a Honda 70CRF but it's because I have the extended swing arm. The ishock line seems to be the most popular one for any rear shock upgrade on a 50 though.
Can any crf 50 style forks fit the bike ?

hey what difference on honda crf 50 & honda xr 50
Plastics on the rear are 3 piece instead of 1 piece. But otherwise it's the same bike. They just changed the name in 2004 to CRF from XR.
Name your price. I wont low ball you promise.
u could have just soaked the jets in carb cleaner for 1-3 days then blew them out with an air compressor before u used the wire
Awesome
Your selling one
Still got the 50 can I have it
That back rim n tire just looks rediculous. Get one the same size as the front and youll be all set
They are meant to be different sizes
Ummmmm, I'll take $6000 for it. Cool? Cool!
SO CAL...909
Sell me one
French
just buy a ssr

SSR Motor is junk. Honda makes the most reliable. That bike is pretty nice. You have to admit.
What transmission did it have
It was stock with heavy duty springs in the auto clutch.
@@hazmatt81 so evrthing in the clutch was completely stock besides the springs? does it work on a crf50 with the Bbr 88 kit
Liked the video,my kids have a honda crf 70 1984 model. I just wanted to know if i can do these suspension mods to there bike and if so what brand or type of stuff do i buy im in melb also are parts honda or can i use what i want money is a consideration as well. yz 125 just go on bbrs website ebay ,fast50s,and maybe craigslist
