    Your assessment of this and other SE mics is spot on. I purchased and regularly use the SE DCM8 which - like the SM7B - has EQ switches on the rear. At $250 U.S. the SE DCM8 provides - to my ears - an equally rich and quality sound compared to the SM7b ($400) and the SM7db ($500 with a built in Cloud Lifter). Like the DCM6, there's also a built in Dynamite inline preamp with the DCM8 that can be on or off. While to my ears the DCM8 is ever so slightly better than the DCM6, if I had it to do over I would purchase the DCM6. It's unfortunate SE isn't getting more love from the creator community.

      Hey thanks, Stephen! I agree. sE makes such great products. People need to discover this world! I’m always impressed with their products and designs. Thanks for watching!

    I run a nonprofit that has a wide range of sE mics, because they almost always deliver. Tremendous value on their gear. I have always been impressed by their clarity - that is particularly true on the DCM6. The SM7B is more broadcasty in tone - gives the fuller bottom end. The SM7DB is late to the party, and if I am honest, it and the SM7B have price bloat. Yes they are nice mics, but I personally have a problem with price bloat. AND, as you noted, if you eat the DCM6, you get more of that broadcasty sound and retain the clarity. All that said, the DCM6 does tend to be a bit bright for some voices and applications. A closer sE comparison to the SM7B would be the sE DCM8, which is still way more affordable than the SM7B. I actually like the DCM8 quite a bit and the filter options that come with the DCM8 allows a great deal of tone sculpting - a really nice and flexible mic. Now, a good A:B would be the DCM6 vs the sE V7, a fine mic in its own right. While I am at it, in many cases, I would grab the sE V7x over the SM57. That is saying something.
    Cheers

      Well said! I agree. I can’t believe how undervalued sE is. A lot of people seem to think they’re just another Chinese mic company, but they make some truly amazing products. I hope to get some more sE products in the future. But I’ll be checking out the 4400 in January! Cheers!

    Pretty good option if I was just starting out. But I've been sound treating a room and just received the Baifei Li V5.. So am hoping I like that mic. I'd rather have a Lautan Audio LA-320. Sounds rich and I feel like I wouldn't be as self conscious about my nasal head voice. Something to aspire for. If I couldn't have that then I'd go for the Sm7b... But I couldn't afford that either. Ha ha. Really I think this would have been a useful option 60 days ago. It's good enough for what I need to do. If the V5 doesn't work I'll circle back to this one maybe.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great plan! Just wait until til next week when I unveil the Lauten Audio FC-387 Atlantis! It’ll blow your mind! Hahaha.
      Really REALLY expensive.
      Don’t discount the SM57. It’s a killer mic for only $100. But it’s dynamic. The V5 should do you well. I’m receiving a V5 tomorrow from a channel viewer. I’ll be testing that out in the coming weeks.
      Let me know how you like it!
      Oh and never mind what you might think of your own voice. People’s own voice sounds bad to everyone. You’ll get used to it! Cheers!

    It doesn’t sound better, but different. The SMB7b sounds fuller than the sE, also more neutral. For portability I’d go for the sE v7, but for aesthetics this Dynamic might be cooler. I’ll check out podcastage for a good comparison.

      @@yashbansalaudio oh I see. I wasn’t saying the DCM6 was bad. Just that dynamics are a little different.
      If I had a choice, I’d go for the DCM 8, but the DCM6 will be just fine.
      Also a simple Shure SM57 with a good pop filter would be my other choice. $100. But it doesn’t have a built in in-line preamp like the sE Electronics ones do.
      If money isn’t an issue, I’d go for the Shure SM7dB.
