    So the big problem with swapping an LS motor in an old Bmw is the hood vents and the rust?

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Old cars + rust can be an issue with LS swaps, yes.

    • @gerryrendon9305

      @@matt13ross of course rust is a big issue with any car. I just didn't know why the title said with an LS swap specifically. I'm planning on doing the same to my Bmw and I thought I'd watch this before I go ahead and do it thinking I might find some mechanical problems regarding the LS motor in a Bmw. I might of been mislead by the title. Sick car btw! I really like how you're building it!

      Thanks! Sorry if the title was a little misleading! Check out the other videos, I documented the whole build on here!

    Mine was rusted in the same spot but much less so. I wire wheeled with dremel, used some sandpaper where needed, then cleaned and then hit with epoxy primer. Everything was hidden by the moulding. Yours looks like its starting to bubble up on the roof however, which means a respray if you want it to look decent.

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea mine creeps up into the roof a little bit. Makes it more difficult.

    • @pmxgamingftw8286
      @pmxgamingftw8286 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matt13ross you can just do a light blend. Doesn't look like you'll need a full roof respray that's excessive imo.

  • @camruncarr

    Still 1000x cleaner than my car. I like the red roof. A good body shop should be able to blend that no problem. I might would contact one before starting any work and see what they say

      I know but I don't want to go to a bodyshop until I'm ready to re paint the whole car.

  • @Thewatson77

    Man I still say leave the hood unpainted but I know you really wanna paint it lol
    I’d just hit the rust spot with a stiff knotted wire wheel and the apply some rust converter/preventer on the area and prime it. Vinyl wrapping the roof afterwards actually isn’t a bad idea

    • @matt13ross

    What a bummer....just made me walk out and check mine. Luckily the 325ic car I bought for the LS swap is good, now I will have to wait and check the M3 which I have at the house tonight. 🤞 it's good. For now you could just address the rust under the molding and not disturb the bubbles on the roof. That way no blending and it cam be fixed when you re-spray. Which ever way you go you have a tin if fans rooting you on!!!

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the only spot on the whole car 😞. And it’s because someone didn’t replace the windshield correctly the first time years and years ago.

  • @Revo900

    Grind it down, treat it, prime it, and from what I remember you have the painting tools to be able to repaint a spot that size.
    I would definitely sand another 4-6 inches further back into the hood for a proper blend.

I'm going to have to grind it down a good bit my bubbles go up on the roof a bit right in the center. Crazy how similar our builds are and how we keep going down the same roads. I say wire wheel the shit out of it up to the actual roofline. I got a feeling it may be ok. If the rust goes up into the top of the roof the. You may want to paint but if it’s just in the cavity the. Clean it and prime it. The glass and molding will seal it. But you will need to take care of it when you paint the whole car. Just a question of how much you wanna do now. Hope it works out!
