Bias DOES NOT = fake news. Usually, the stories in the mainstream media are factually quite accurate, it’s just the way they are portrayed and the omissions are dependent on the opinions of the broadcaster. The solution is, instead of whining about it, just read lots of different news outlets rather than one, taking into account bias. That way, you get most of the key factual information as well as multiple perspectives. It’s not rocket science, it just takes effort, something which social media has emptied our souls of it seems.
Apparently the practice of approaching media with a critical mind is far too difficult for most, and it's far easier to receive your news from one source and slander the rest. Bias DOES NOT = fake news. Usually, the stories in the mainstream media are factually quite accurate, it’s just the way they are portrayed and the omissions are dependent on the opinions of the broadcaster. The solution is, instead of whining about it, just read lots of different news outlets rather than one, taking into account bias. That way, you get most of the key factual information as well as multiple perspectives. It’s not rocket science, it just takes effort, something which social media has emptied our souls of it seems.
Apparently the practice of approaching media with a critical mind is far too difficult for most, and it's far easier to receive your news from one source and slander the rest.
As you say - relatively few people seem willing to make the effort these days, though that view could well be symptomatic of 'rose tinted glasses' syndrome.

Another ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has also recently cited Murdochs involvement in his removal.
Murdoch's influence is more than sinister here..it is pretty much openly declared. Upset Murdoch and you are out. Within one month of Malcolm Turnbull's ousting, a piece of legislation containing Alt Right Neo Nazi group slogans such as "It Is OK To Be White" making it illegal to discriminate against white people (...) and criticise "Western Civilisation" was defeated in the Australian Senate by only 3 votes. We are further down Trump Highway here than Trump. That necessitates a people actually wanting to know, while most of them actually prefer to be spoon fed and to regurgitate, only to complain about the filth they swallowed afterwards when the toxicity has already spread and the harm is done.
But, this is how journalism has always been, and was meant to be. The mid-Twentieth Century news model was an anomaly.
While admirable to want an informed public, the main roadblock to that will be how the vast majority of people don't want to be told anything besides what they already "know".
