@@AnnaHazelnutt I grew up literally 10 minutes from there. :) I've been scrambling over that sandstone since I was a little tike. My parents still live there, and every time I go to visit, I hit up Red Rock.
I love it! Red rocks was where I really learned to Boulder and lead confidently. Amazing place. So weird seeing someone on TH-cam try a bunch of Boulders I've tried in the past. They all look so much easier than they actually are lol.
Going climbing on my own gives me those feels I get when travelling on my own (which might not happen for a long time). Cute video and loved all the clapping (you Americans are so happy and vocal! 😅)
Is there a big grade disparity between there and Josh boulders? I've done mostly trad and a little sport in red rocks (and nearby areas like potosi). They have always felt easier, but in part, I think that's because sandstone and limestone is rather grippy. But the boulders, how are they compared to jtree?
It’s hard to tell with just one day there! I’m also super used to granite (there was that time when I practically lived in the buttermilks). So I was able to climb harder grades in josh, but I also wasn’t trying any particularly difficult climbs here and that wasn’t really my objective.
This will continue to be a mystery. But maybe if I get further delayed moving on-site for work, I will try to find a rental near Red Rocks and climb out there!
Red rocks is known for having fairly soft grades for sport and trad, but the bouldering is pretty standard. If you can climb v7 at Red Rocks Climbing Center, you can probably climb v4/v5 at Kraft Mountain. I don't necessarily think Josh is physically harder, everything is just scarier there. Much more smearing and climbing in no fall zones. While Red Rocks sandstone is super featured and often has tons of holds.
@@garvinnoah haha, yes, definitely a lot scarier. Last weekend I came across a group who could spot me (to give me enough confidence) to finish "the chube" . It turns out someone in that group the same day broke his leg falling from it. It's always the topouts. You can get right to the end then have to face a slabby mantle ending.
I see you have Shamans and Oracle shoes, can you tell me why you chose the shamans now and not your Oracle's?. what's the difference for you in climbing with them?
Oracles are more downturned and I love them as my performance shoe. When I’m just randomly hopping around/ not trying anything super difficult, I like the shamans because they’re super comfy and easy to get on and off

Ah isn’t it incredible? I’ve been a few times, mostly in passing, but each time I love it. Such a great place to solo boulder in my opinion
