Quick trick on how to install and tighten a crankshaft pulley or harmonic balancer with stuff around the shop if you don't have a pulley holder. i hope this helps you with tightening your crankshaft pulley.
Been trying to find a video to show how to install crankshaft pulley without letting it turn the shaft. And I gotta say this is the best one yet!
Underrated video and underrated technique.
I’m so grateful that I found this video your the man
the dog was the second best part lol
Ghostly, your info and all your videos have set me at ease. One piece of info I haven't been able to find is if my crank bolt needs to be new. I've heard it's torque to yield. Do you know either way. Response would be greatly appreciated
I would replace it if ones available. If you buy a arp one it never needs to be replaced but factory oem ones its best practice to
This is the most midwestern video ever
The way he says “ye go” an “serpentine” lol. Maybe he’s from Fargo.

"Serpent Time" thanks for video
How did you know when to stop when you installed the harmonic balancer?
I hit torque spec
Impact gun...just make sure it's not strong enough to strip the crank bolt. Torque on the balancer isn't critical unless it's not tight enough and will spin with the accessories on. I usually warm up pulley and freeze the crank(compressed air can upside down) for easier installation. Zip on with impact and once up to equal temperature , the balancer will be grabbing onto the crank snout pretty tightly.
Impact gun is not a good idea for tightening any bolts. Always use a hand tool, unless You don't care for the threads.
Love Your dog, and I don't care much for the rest of the video :D
✨Great tip! 💜💚💛💙
You da man, much appreciated!
Bob may not be my uncle, but for the sake of this video he is now
Pretty slick
my motor is stuffed in a compartment...dark in there.
Awesome. 😀😀😀
Thanks ! 👍👍
That's cool but to be realistic most people will be doing this while in the engine is in the car..
Depending on the vehicle you’re working on you should still have access to the frame to attach it to the frame at some point on it
😂😂😂
@@ghostlyrichthank you for this nice video and advice, quick question, which engine was that on the video. And from what vehicle is it ??
Yhats 5.7 hemi 2014 and the frames a dodge ram
@@ghostlyrich thanks
Am I missing something? There is no footage actually installing a pulley, only torquing a bolt.
Slide harmonic balancer on crank, thread bolt in to crank by hand to make sure you're not cross threading then torque it down
So require a harmonic balancer kit if the factory bolt is not long enough it threads into crank then tie the nut down to press it onto the crank, can use silcone lube to lubricate threads.
I like to use loctite on harmonic balancer bolt to lubricate threads. If your harmonic balncer has a key way or a notch make sure to line that up, pretty simple stuff
what kind of dog is that?
Long haired german shepard
Good way to ruin your crankshaft and or new pulley… never ever put a ratchet strap on or with any pulley… good video, bad technique
