Wow Matt is super legit. Great sequences and finishes, it looks like he has a really clear understanding of what opportunities his techniques create for him instead of just bulldozing 1 move. Love to see it, great work Matt!
Absolutely HATE that scissor sweep and wish people would stop doing it. A high level blue belt did that to me, and like you, my foot didn't get swept out all the way and it rolled weird. I thought my foot/big toe was broken, but it wasn't. Couldn't walk for a week and it still hurts to this day over 6 months later.
That looked more like a Kani Basami takedown than scissor sweep. That takedown is notorious for breaking ankles and blowing out knees and is illegal in many places.
I’ve been hit with it a few times by the same guy that has at least 70 lbs on me. I pray for my knee’s stability and safety every time I’m omw to the mat, it really feels like a roll of the dice
Your channel shows the reality of jiu jitsu. Everyone isn’t a stud, it’s the evolution of going from whatever it is you were to what you will become. Anyone with brains can see how much better bath salts Ben has gotten. Honestly you can’t teach someone to have as much heart as Ben..
Honestly, the jiujitsu competition scene is tough these days. These guys really want to win. I go to open mat at other gyms and the 20 yr old white/blue belt guys turn it up to 110% Edit: great rolls. Love how he had technique and power. Would love to roll with this guy. He is clearly a good training partner.
Agreed that he is great training partner! Matt is easily one of the best rolling partners I've had in the 8 years I've trained. highly recommend training with him!
Absolutely love having Matt on the channel, he’s incredible at chaining his attacks and staying on the offence. Miss seeing him on the channel and would love to have him in more videos!! 🔥
Best BJJ channel on YT by far. Super informative stuff and extremely entertaining / comical :) Been really focusing on your Guilotine grip stuff and it’s working great. Love it.
DANG, Matt is well beyond his years. And that kani basami is whack bro, I can’t believe someone did that to you during training. Hopefully it wasn’t too bad of an injury.
Tyler at time 4:14 there actually is a very effective ankle lock/roll from that position. Reilly bodycomb uses it and I also use it from time to time .
Where is the gym this guy trains at, I want to find him a learn how to do that shallow grip guillotine. I saw his guide, still doesn't make any sense to me how that even works.
Collab with Jedi?? How great is that? Do you have a roll between Matt and Ben, to see how Matt handles the storm and the up-kicks?... Hope your knee's ok...
Matt's a much better blue belt than I am. I need to go back through your history and look to see if there was ever a Matt v Anthony video and if there wasn't, consider this a request for the match up.
When I do ever do this I do with control. Not recklessly throwing my body with dead weight at their legs. That’s where people mess up. It’s actually better to get if you do it with control. Posting on your hand, floating your hips and hipping into them then you can control the fall and the lace.
so far we have two egomaniacs who go into jits comps and dont tap before snapping then you send in a sandbagger to clean up lesser experience competitors?
Matt got his blue belt less than a year ago. We called him a sandbagging white belt because the professor waited to give him his blue. Now he has his blue and he's just a great competitor.
I'm not sure if encourage sandbagging with this video is a good thing. Usually it ruin a comp spirit, if you are at purple level go to purple div, let the legit blues play togethers
There isn't a sandbagging problem, there is a belt inflation problem. 15ish years ago, a blue belt really meant something, someone with a blue belt could absolutely dismantle someone with no experience, even if they were strong/athletic, and that's what attracted so many people to BJJ. Now, greedy instructors who want to keep students coming are giving out attendance belts, which threatens to turn BJJ belts into a joke like 9 year olds with TKD black belts. Now, when there are instructors who actually follow the belt standards that made BJJ as respected as it is today, the insecure attendance belt BJJ mall ninjas try to turn it around by crying Sandbagging. This is what an actual blue belt should look like. It was facing blue belts like this coming in as a white belt wrestler that gave me enough respect for the art to sign up in the first place. If I'd faced today's average hobbyist attendance blue belt, I very well may have dismissed BJJ as yet more Bullshido. If you are a higher belt than this guy and you know he's better than you, it doesn't mean he needs a higher belt. It means you need to take your current belt off and wear one you can back up on the mat.
@@sevourn for sure that's a problem too, but in most bjj club the average blue belt would crush a dude with no experience, also the "fake blue belts" don't compete bc they know they will get smashed. It's fact that in some gym belts standards are very low but the sandbagging exist too, in a comp (I wasn't fighter) I met a dude that train 6 times a week, and was blue belt for five years... He could smash 70% of purples belts but stay in blue div...
Damn dude that takedown at the end was reckless. You couldn't know homie was going to go wild, but I would X that gym off the list. Maybe overreaction. I don't f with bad training partners.
None of those rolls to me looked like they were blue belts. This is a problem in the BJJ community. Either coaches or practitioners want more medals so they compete at lower than their skill level.
Bjj guys: dont ever practice takedowns
Also bjj guys: use the most dangerous takedowns possible if you dont practice them
😂😂😂

Matt is legit and fun to watch, please put more of him on
For Matt having his blue belt less than a year, he has solid technique. Great job Matt, you’re always so entertaining to watch!
Did you removed the video of why you left your gym?
took down the quitting video?
Bro is the Gordon Ryan of blue belts
Absolutely HATE that scissor sweep and wish people would stop doing it. A high level blue belt did that to me, and like you, my foot didn't get swept out all the way and it rolled weird. High level blue here and scissor is my favorite sweep 😅😂
Yeah not a big fan of it ever. There are safe ways to do it, but it’s just a casual roll 🙃🙃 so maybe not the place to do it
That looked more like a Kani Basami takedown than scissor sweep. That takedown is notorious for breaking ankles and blowing out knees and is illegal in many places.

I assume you mean the Scissor Takedown.
I don’t see what would be dangerous about the Scissor Sweep.
Oh shit, you collaborated with Jedi? Hell yeah, man.
Soon to come 😀

The getting injured part in the end had me in tears
such a beautiful sequence in that first match
Dude, this channel is awesome. The clown business is fun and shows the reality of things. Thanks for the content! 😂
Your channel has improved a lot since I subscribed 3-4 months ago !! Thanks for the great content Tyler 💪🤙
The click like button at 4:10 sounded like the dude's knee getting crushed from inside sankaku lol

Well done Matt good performance looking forward to seeing the rest and get well soon Tyler
Wtf kani basami in a holiday roll???
Homeboy went for a scissor takedown in training huh? Kind of a D move.
First takedown too. 😬
"after I'm able to pass the referees guard"
Tickles, man!
First transitions from Matt were slick in the first match
Great video! If you can't break the grip for the armbar, chalk the hips with your feet, press the wrist into the chest and kimura them.
This was my teammate at Upstream BJJ. Niceeee!

I’m surprised it was the first takedown 😬. And Matt’s only been a blue belt for less than a year!
Dam getting injured by like that is why that move usually isn't legal. At least flying scissor with that much force
Amazing transitions by Matt!

this guy is really good for a blue belt.
Love the commentary
We need to see that roll with Jedi
In the works 😃
I can't tell if the commentary or matt's jiu jitsu is more brutal
I love this guy
He loves you too!
Surprised the calf slicer would be legal at blue belt level.

There's no way I'd ever enter a tournament. Number 1 I get hurt enough just practicing, and I'd probably get submitted in 10 seconds.

The last takedown is a very dangerous and irresponsible move for any bjj hobbyists. DO AVOID such think-less partners.
