Agreed. Better than the first (which I also loved) and better in at least some storytelling elements than the third, but the third is just SUCH A BLAST. 1) One the Project Insight targets mentioned was a fellow by the name of Stephen Strange. You might wanna remember that name.
    2) The title kind of had a double meaning. Besides Bucky, "The Winter Solider" is actually a reference to Thomas Paine's writings during the American Revolution about "the summer solider and the sunshine patriot" (i.e. people who only stand up and fight for what's right when it's safe and easy). The opposite of this would be a "winter solider", someone who fights when it's hard, like Steve. So you could say that Captain America IS the Winter Soldier.

    @OneVoiceMore ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon.
Hi. I'm an old-school comic book kid (1960s, older than most MCU heroes) and a former comic writer/artist.
For a short while in the '70s the synergy between Cap and Falcon was so popular, the title was changed to Captain America and the Falcon, instead of just Captain America. And it was my favorite.
I don't want to do spoilers on Sam's arc (not sure where you are in the series), but I hope it's cool to talk about little homages to the comic books in the current movie reaction.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the first time we see Sam with the wings, he's wearing an avocado T-shirt.
Marvel sort of had a 'color-code' to denote villains from heroes for a long time, with heroes largely being bright primary colors, and villains with secondary colors.
Think: Spider-Man, red and blue, vs. Goblin Green and purple. There are exceptions, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. Although Falcon was never what you'd call a villain, his first meeting with Cap was adversarial, and when they eventually became partners, Sam's costume went from green to red and white --- and Redwing was an actual red-tailed hawk Sam had trained to help him.
Partly, also, his initial costume color was pretty ugly.
Interesting side-plot: In real life, Captain America's adventures were still in print pretty much non-stop during the post-WW2 '50s, with many being reprints of his war adventures all over the world. Some new adventures were also written post-war, which was retconned in the Avengers issue in which they discover him frozen in a block of ice (a metaphor for Jack Kirby to take one of his creations off the shelf and put him into the Avengers).
That retcon created a blizzard of fan letters asking for an explanation as to why there were seemingly two Captain Americas --- one frozen alive, and the other carrying on as if he never disappeared.
The solution? There WERE two Captain Americas, and two Buckys -- one dead, and the imposter actually also being a super-soldier, rather than the Army camp mascot who was a pretty cringe-worthy sidekick. Stan always hated sidekicks.
Of course they met, fought, and the real Cap won with help from the Falcon --- partly because Sam recognized that this angry, racist fake Cap was not the real one based on Sam knowing what Cap's museum-piece uniform looked like (no stripes on the back, unlike real Cap's wrap around stripes).
In about three issues, Marvel neatly tied off many loose ends: they legitimized the Avengers' Cap, distanced themselves from some of the wartime and post-war depictions of other races (Japanese) and Cap's dialog in that era unsuited to 1960s sensibilities, they got rid of Bucky, like, twice, and cemented Sam as Cap's new partner, not sidekick.
Also, they made Cap seem a lot less churlish to those who remembered Peggy, but now saw Cap dating her NIECE 30 years later.
The MCU not only did absolute justice to the gestalt of the source, they astonishingly surpassed them visually and articulately.
I love watching you get the best taste of a product that's been aging in the barrel for over 80 years.

When Falcon is first appearance in the comics he was dressed in green and he didn't have a flight suit. In fact he met Captain America, Steve had already ended up switching bodies with the Red Skull (who at the time was wearing a mask before getting a permanent skull face) and being chased by the Marauders, until Sam found them hurt his side of the story and teamed up with him. And he also made friends with a red falcon named Red Wing that was experimented on due to The cosmic cube and Samuel Wilson (The Falcon) bonded with him due to his talent for falconry. And Sam was also experimented with the cube with telepathy over birds.
When he got his flight suit in white and red with red projectile feathers, it was due to Captain America requesting Sam's suit upgraded by Black Panther.

In the mid-70's, after the Watergate scandal, there were a number of movies centered on the idea of government conspiracies and people suddenly finding themselves unable to trust anyone around them. 'Winter Soldier' very consciously captured the mood of some of those 70's thrillers. In some shots of the Triskelion SHIELD headquarters, located on the Potomac River, you can see the Watergate Hotel in the background. A couple films of that genre even starred Robert Redford (who played Commander Pierce) - 'Three Days of the Condor' (where Redford plays a low level CIA agent who returns to his office after lunch to find everyone has been murdered and himself suddenly unable to trust anyone.) and 'All the President's Men' (a movie about the uncovering of the Watergate scandal with Redford playing reporter Bob Woodward.)

It has been a long time since I first saw all these MCU movies (and many times each since then), so it is always fun and refreshing to watch along with someone who's seeing them for the first time....and you are a fantastic reactor to watch with, Addie! Your joy and genuine emotions are delightful, and I look forward to watching the rest with you. I agree: this is an incredibly good movie, and one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!! 😊

Movie viewers in different countries had slightly different versions of the list of things to catch up on in Steve’s notebook.
The UK version substituted “The Beatles” and “Sherlock.” For South Korea, “Dance Dance Revolution” was added. The list for viewers in Spain had “Rafa Nadal” and “Chupa Chups.” Australia: “AC/DC” and “Steve Irwin.” France “The Fifth Element,” and Germany “currywurst.”

That was indeed Abed, Danny Pudi. The Russo Brothers co-created Community, and directed a lot of Arrested Development, so you'll see a few cameos and Easter eggs in their films. The SHIELD agent who refuses to launch the helicarriers was Simmons, the guy in the wheelchair in the debate episode. The guy at the Apple store was part of Derrick Comedy, the TH-cam sketch group Donald Glover got his start in, and he showed up in a few Community episodes. The Dean shows up in Civil War, as does the stair truck from AD. And Shirley and Chang are both in Endgame.

Don't know if someone mentioned it, but the directors of this said that it was written in it, but wasn't shown in the final cut, that Steve would go see Peggy in hospital every day that he was in town, even though she never remembers.

When this movie came out I was in the habit of waiting until Saturday morning to see a movie in the theater. But at the time of this specific release I was temporarily unemployed (it was just my boss and I and he was very sick), and realized I could go see it Friday morning instead. I rarely got phone calls in those days, so I didn't bother turning off my phone from vibrate. However, my former employers decided those two hours were the perfect time to request some old files I had copies of, and they called and texted me five times while I was sitting there in the theater...

Captain America's greatest super power is his popularity. In the old Marvel RPG his popularity was Unearthly (100). If you need an idea of how high that is, Thor's strength, endurance and fighting skill are also Unearthly (100). Cap's popularity is epic. That's why the director of SHIELD along with all of HYDRA couldn't convince the good guys that he was corrupt. He's too well loved.

A wonderfully emotive reaction! If you liked this one, I have a feeling you will enjoy Captain America: Civil War. These two are some of the darker, more drama oriented movies in the franchise. The flipside would be Thor: Ragnarok, much more light hearted but still amazingly written and I feel just as entertaining, but on a very different level. Amazing as usual Addie.

This is such an amazing movie & remains of my favourite films in the entire MCU to date. I especially love how this film was a perfect showcase of Black Widow's skills, & showed what makes her one of the most badass heroes on Earth.
Natasha has always been one of my favourite MCU characters, but she's often overlooked in Avengers films in favour of more powerful heroes like Iron Man and Thor - it was great to see her in a Spy/ Political Thriller where she could acc reach her full potential.
Not to mention, as much as I love the amazing sci-fi world of the MCU, it's great to see more grounded stories every so often.

To this day, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still my favorite (non Avengers) movie in the MCU. If you take out the comic book super hero element it’s essentially the same exact movie. So much to love.
You have arguably the best action choreography in the MCU, the best hero theme (apart from the Avenger’s theme), the best plot twist(HYDRA), ScarJo’s best look (imo), legendary actors (Jackson and Redford), the coolest post credits scene (the introduction of Wanda), since Iron Man2… I could keep going. I’ll always love this movie!

This is honestly my favorite Marvel movie. I'm currently totally burnt out on Marvel, but this one will always have a special place in my heart. It's so slick, focused, unique and emotional. Love that old school spy flick style they went for, including casting a veteran of this genre as the bad guy (Redford). Also, while I sort of liked cap in the first movie and Avengers, this one is where he really grew on me, as he wasn't just the honest soldier or the fish out of water. Here he gets his own character arc, about adapting to the new world, while still staying true to his long standing principles.
