      @@diamondsaphire3444 😥 Tornado Alley is not for the faint of heart, though one of these can happen almost anywhere.
      I used to always have recurring dreams of being in or near a tornado, in a variety of situations; one I watched it skirt by within a few blocks of where I was standing; another I rode out inside a tall office building. The dreams are always so real I wake up in fear of these things. One reason why I'd like to go on a chase once just to confront the fear I feel when I have a dream with a tornado in it. I've never seen one or been near one, but the dreams are vivid enough to strike fear. Would like to be face-to-face with one just to get it outta my system.

    • @briane173
      @briane173 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      It's unique that it was surviving beneath the cloud base. What you're seeing here is in fact what is happening within a developing thunderstorm, and usually when the windshear reaches max vorticity that's when the tornado will tilt toward the ground and travel in the typical vertical orientation. This one stayed horizontal for a _long_ distance and still curled down to the surface. You _very_ rarely see that _under_ the cloud base as opposed to _within_ the cell itself.

      Tornadoes themselves are invisible, they are made of air. What you see is either the condensation funnel (where pressure drops enough that water droplets, aka clouds form) or debris. Usually the tornado itself is larger than it appears by just looking at it, the funnel may be only the inner most core but it can still be very damaging outside of it

    1:46 "How is this not tornado warned". I've noticed that a few times locally over the past couple of years even when there is clear rotation on radar. We even had an instance where an EF1 tornado was down for nearly two miles and had lifted before the warning was issued. Rotation had been visible on that cell for 10-15 minutes before the tornado dropped. I'm not sure if the NWS uses an algorithm to assist in flagging potential tornados on radar or if it's all manual, but there is certainly room for improvement.

      It's like a rope strung between the ceiling and the floor, and multi-directional wind bending the rope around.

      All tornadoes start horizontal... this one just decided to only go halfway vertical. Just air currents being at just the correct angle to maintain keeping the tornado in this orientation.

    This one was awesome. It's amazing how the atmosphere can curve and twist like that. It's like it's water but different.

    Watched this stream live; my first time watching. I'd heard Reed's name for years, so I knew he has a lot of experience being close to tornadoes. Because this was my first time watching live, I didn't know what to think when he said how crazy this is and he's never seen that before; figured he probably says that all the time. Had to come back and check, turns out I got lucky on my first stream!

    Unusual, the funnel goes up inside the cloud rather than up until the cloud... and with blue sky behind it. Nice long weird shape funnels too.
    A nice view up inside it.
