Caetano Veloso is Maria Bethânia's brother, and they became famous in the 60's along many other great artists in a movement called "Tropicália", with many lyrics against dictatorship. This song is actually not his. In my opinion, his compositions are usually way better than this one. Oração ao Tempo ("Prayer for Time") is one of my favorites.

Caetano is one of the most important artists in Brazilian history, he's album Tropicália is insane, you should check Belchior, a true genius he composed "Como nossos pais" that you reacted with Eli's and Maria Rita, but he have a lot of other classics, and my favorite is Alceu Valença - Anunciação, you can't get more Brazilian then that.
Hey, Frank. You should check the 1967 collaboration of Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobin. I absolutely LOVE It. Actually the whole performance is amazing, Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald are also incredible.
Verdade! Mas, vale lembrar que Caetano tem o "toque de Midas" da música brasileira. Ele realiza sutis interferências que hiper valorizam o original - e com a maior naturalidade e humildade. Gênio!

The call and responde that happens is supposed to be the guitar "answering" his questions. "Why do you leave me so loose?" and then comes the first little solo with the arpeggios. It's a conversation between two lovers.
Yes, Frank, it was Caetano Veloso who sang in Almodovar`s movie "Hable con ella", and he sang the Mexican song "Cucurrucucú, paloma". Thanks for reacting to this great singer. I would also suggest you react to him singing with Gilberto Gil and Ivete Sangalo. They did a concert together a few years back and it was wonderful!
Please!!! Listen Nine Out of Ten of Caetano. Its a song in English, he made when he was in England, actually he made a full album, called Transa, all in English but with some parts in Portuguese, and its a brilliant album, it's my favorite of him. Im Sorry if i did some mistake in this comment, my English isnt so good.
This song is originally from a composer named Peninha, little known as a singer, but who is the author of several brazilian classics. And yes, it's Caetano singing Cucurrucucu Paloma at Hable con Ella (what a wonderful reference!)
Interesting I didn’t know both in Italian dialects and Portuguese We both say sangue Latino for Latin Blood. Love from North America to all my fellow Latin Blood People of Southern European Latin Mediterranean diaspora! Sangue Latino! This song's guitar line is just awesome indeed. The acustic guitar is really popular in Brazil, and much of our music tradition is for it, including samba, bossa and choro. One thing that is not very common outside of Brazil is the 7 strings acustic guitar, really popular in samba music, together with the Cavaco, somewhat like a ukelele, but with steel strings.
hi frank how are you? as soon as you get to know caetano veloso you’ll be addicted, he has incredible music, 2 in particular that I like a lot is "tigress, trigresa in portuguese" and "you dont know me" has several wonderful songs.

That's right, he sings Cucurrucucú Paloma at Habla con ella, he's a close friend to Almodovar and did an album with selected latin classics that led to that participation in the movie.
I just can't believe this is the first time you listend to Caetano. Wich planet do you live? He is known globally. Maddona when came to Brazil got down on her knees literally. He is listened in many movies...I can't believe.
Caetano Veloso was exiled in London during the military dictatorsh period in Brazil. He composed some songs in English, some of them among his best songs. Try, "London, London", a very special song about his exile, or "Nine out of Ten", an experimental progressive song.
His lyrics are trully mind blowing, not to mention everything else. Yes, we want you to react to other songs by Caetano! Vaca profana, Amanhã, Gente, Sampa, Terra, Desde que o samba é samba, Um índio, It's a long way. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this performance/song)!
"they look simple, but it not" It's the truly MPB. CAETANO is aewsome.
