    Greetings from the States. One of the best explanations of how to effectively do short and long serves I have every seen - I mean that. Explaining the height of the ball above the table and also more exact on place ball should bounce on server's side of table is all excellent information. I will be playing in about an hour with a friend and will use what I just learned from this video then (I know it will take practice to get it right). Thank you!

Another topic - concentration, focus point, alertness and in the same time relaxation, stamina, mental stability during a game. btw there are some sound plugins for getting rid of reberberation/echo in postproduction. Hi Craig, super excited about your channel! Many folks have expressed my positive feelings for your video so I'd like to offer my constructive feedback on what I'd hope to see in future videos.
    For your camera angles shot from side of table, please consider framing more of the table. With you centered in the frame there is a bunch of wasted space to the left side of the frame, and most times the net is mostly or entirely unseen which reduces our sense of depth for your bounce. Might help to have more of a long shot so we can see where your serve lands on the other side of the net. Lastly, would also like to see simultaneous camera views; i.e. close up of your serve and a long shot of the table.
    Please keep up the good work. I am going to share your channel with my club members!

    Thanks a lot for your help ! I'm a tall player 198 cm (6'4) and alway played since my 16 (first table). After a long life travelling at 39 I decided to settle in New Calédonia (French paradise Island in the pacific). Unfortunatly there is no coach around here and Im struglling to improve... Do you have some tips for tall players ?
    I think my best shot is my serve as I can do pendulum reverse pendulum hammer and many fast and short serves. My weakness been the forehand topspin (what an hell shot to master for me ! )...

  • @CFSUnravelled1
    @CFSUnravelled1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Craig, great to see you doing well with your channel 👍😉 Really enjoying the videos. One thing I always wondered about is tension in the fingers on contact. For rallies , spinny open ups as well as for serves! My thoughts previously were that squeezing the racket at contact gives you more spin, but when I started doing the slow sidespin loops I found a very soft grip during contact more beneficial (as opposed to doing a slow top spinny open up). So what should we do for spinny serves? Grip at contact or keep it soft? What's the reasoning here?

    • @TheTableTennisServiceGuy
      @TheTableTennisServiceGuy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think there’ll be a natural squeezing on the point of contact. It’s hard to accelerate whilst being loose at the same time. However, if you’re squeezing as hard as you can (or too early) then yes, that can hinder spin.

  • @rcarioca
    @rcarioca 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    About spin eg backspin serves: does the ball really roll along the racket when you get a lot of friction ? Or is this a myth ? I have heard that for more back backspin, contact on leading edge of racket as compared with the back edge (which produces less spin), because of this rolling explanation ( contact at back edge has no rubber to roll on).
    Thanks

    • @TheTableTennisServiceGuy
      @TheTableTennisServiceGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great question. I really cannot see how it’s possible for the ball to stay on the rubber and roll.
      The points on contact are correct (in my view) but not because of the “rolling”. The leading part of the bat is often the fastest moving, so it’s good to think about aiming for that leading edge.
      Contacting the back edge (or more in the middle) will help with a no spin effect but it’s also important to have less acceleration and you’ll often find that you subconsciously contact the ball thicker too.
      *As soon as the ball hits the bat, it’ll bounce off. Therefore, the ball cannot roll along the bat* 👍

    Would you not want to bounce your serve at the same place on the table or at least don't always place backspin or topspin at a length where the opponent can read your serve simply by seeing where the first bounce is.

  • @z0uLess
    @z0uLess ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What do you think is more important for a low ranked player: variation within a serve motion or variation of serve motions? I am a player that rely a lot on my serves and on control via blocking and placement. It seems my game has started to turn into suprising my opponent with serves, but they are less suprised when they start to read my variation of serve motions in the second or third set, so I have to constantly keep switching it up and may run short of variation so that the quality is hard to maintain without risk. This depends on the level of my opponent though -- higher level players seem to get more often tricked by variation within a serve motion rather than variation of the serve motion. What would you focus on in serve training?
    I think this difference may be dependant on your opponents temperament as well. I know I hate it myself when someone do the same serve over and over again and I start to get an itch to try and switch up my return and do it differently. If you play someone who seems like someone that gets impatient, I suppose less variation overall is better.
    A trick I like to do some times is produce the same serve (the same action on the ball) with different serve motions. Some times it makes my opponent overthink things ;-D
