Love Mopar insiders, but TKs garage had this news over 2 months ago. He has the inside news on Tim coming back, the hemi coming to the US, and the ram getting it back.
It made no sense from a business decision at all as they were buying rights to sell V8 from Tesla.EPA regulations required that for each V8 sold a car manufacturer has to sell one EV.Stelantis doesn’t make EVs while Tesla doesn’t make vehicles with ordinary engines and was able to be selling those rights to other manufacturers. But that was expensive.
The dumb reason why ford doesn’t sell as much 5.0s as the eco boosts is that ford limits the production of them, dealerships are capped on how many that can order to put on lots. If they didn’t cap the dealer allotment then they’d probably sell just as many as the 3.5, 5.0s get literally same mpg and are just as quick.
Bringing back the Hemi in the first place 25ish years ago was a company saving move. I currently own a Ram with the Hemi. There is just something so pure about a pickup truck with a naturally aspirated V8. I'm nearly 40 and the sounds from my truck are the sounds I tried to make when I was 6 playing with HotWheels. I smile every time I get on the highway. I do frown at the pump though...
Hi Alex. I think the really issue it's not the engine. May be the big issue is the huge increase in its prices, unreability and durability. I love Hemi engines 5.7, 6.2 and 6.4 lts. I hope they come back. BIG HUG 🤠 Alex!!
They have f*ed up their process and software games. No security (Phone / PIN start) on any Mopars. Horrible lack of ownership with TomTom maps issues. No remote updates for even simple recalls - it has to be a dealer visit and the dealers limit their recall service appointments each week and don't bother to return calls for recalls. Why should I buy a new RAM when they don't even take care of the ones sold just 1-3 years ago? Because of a funny Superbowl commercial?
Important to note that they are 3 months behind on the rollout of the hurricane I think that’s caused a sales issue , but I agree having a v8 as a option is critical to the brand image
5.7 Hemi Heavy Duty (HD) It looks like they are bringing back the 5.7 Hemi. This would be an excellent opportunity to make some upgrades that I am calling the 5.7 Hemi Heavy Duty. 4:10 You are spot on. Not sure why they didn't continue to offer the 5.7 alongside the hurricane. GM and Ford have been doing great with their multiple powertrain options. Can you imagine GM's sales had they chopped the 5.3 and 6.2 for just the Turbomax?!
@stevenrogers2457 ☝🏼 This right here💯. I’ve been driving Ram/Dodge Trucks since I got my permit at 15(Brand new 2000 Dakota R/T). Currently holding holding onto my 14 Black Express 5.7 & 18 Bighorn 5.7. If I’m forced into the market-it’ll be a 5.0 F-150🤷🏻♂️
I'm still driving my 2010 F-150 with the 5.4L that I bought new. 190,000 kms, change my oil regularly and the truck has NEVER given me a lick of trouble and still runs beautifully. I tow a 4500lb boat and 6500lb travel trailer on a regular basis, so it's seen its share of working milage. I think I'll hang on to the reliable old girl a while longer yet.
1 of the biggest reasons people are hesitant about the hurricane is NO DIPSTICK . It's the 1st thing out of anyone's mouth when asked , "Why not a Ram?" Sometimes it's the stupid little things.
Greetings all, I work in a factory in Brantford, Ontario. We currently make parts for the DT (Ram 1500) platform. The B-pillar specifically. This component is actually a 3-piece, laser-welded, hot-stamped assembly. We make 3 parts for the LH and 3 parts for the RH. The next processor, our customer, laser-welds those 3 pieces in Woodstock, Ontario. I'm not sure who does the hot-stamping. We received updated releases (projected volume of parts required to ship) from our customer's Materials group, at the end of last week. Our projected shipping requirements are showing an increase of nearly 80%, when compared to the last release numbers from the end of December. Our Commercial Sales group is looking to verify if this increase is legit, or not. Could be a clerical error at some level. But seeing as I've stumbled upon this video, it seems likely that it's real.
If Ram keeps the 5.7 in the lower trims only, then those will sale better. As a 6.2 owner, I love my engine and truck. If the Dakota has a V8, it will be a force to be reckoned with in the market. It is great to see a V8 back. TK’s garage has also stated the 5.7 will go into the Jeep Gladiator.
I have a 2003 Dodge 2500 with a 5.7 Hemi, the first year they were available only in the 2500. This truck is a garage queen, has never seen snow and rain only several times. The factory stickers are still on the chassis, visible from the wheel well. It has about 65k or 70k. I haven't seen it about 9 months. It's in storage now. Every time I drive it, I enjoy it more and more.
When Stellantis was formed, there were three companies making a killing, the rest were breaking even at best or hemorrhaging money at worst. Those three companies were Ram, Jeep, and Dodge. It’s my understanding from very high sources that once Stellantis was formed they pillaged all the money from Ram, Dodge, and Jeep, and sent it to the failing companies to try and revive them. This is the second time in 20ish years that’s happened to the original Chrysler brands and I feel so horrible for them. Mercedes took all their money and left them to broke and sold them to Cerberus, and while Stellantis hasn’t sold them…. yet, it still took all their money.
My favorite Ram engine for sure and was very let down when it was announced it was being dropped. Made me look at another brand for my next truck. Still own my 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 though and it has been excellent. Fully agree that they should keep all the engine options. Really happy with my 23 F150 2.7L. Glad I had the 5.0L option, but decided not to go that route.
The HEMI lives on! Gonna save the brand, as far as I'm concerned. My 19' Laramie with Borla Catback exhaust sounds better than any truck on the road. Way better than a stock TRX too. The Rebel GT in the beginning of this video sounds pretty good, but a quality custom exhaust system is magic on these puppies. Thanks for supporting the HEMI, Alex. You are the man!
we were considering replacing our '17 ram hemi but don't want a new engine design especially in the first year of production. we will wait for the hemi comeback
Important to note that they are 3 months behind on the rollout of the hurricane I think that’s caused a sales issue , but I agree having a v8 as a option is critical to the brand
Best news since sliced bread. I'm a 5.7 Hemi owner Bighorn I would not trade my truck for anything else 136k miles, no lifter, no tick, no manifold issue 1st owner.
They better update it if they do. It went from 345hp in 2002 to 390hp in 2008 since then it hasn't changed other than electric power steering adding 5hp in 2012.
Wonder if they will fix the Lifter/Cam issue. Im not sure just how big of an issue it really is, but its no secret the 5.7 and 6.4 suffer from improper lifter and cam oiling which is why these motors drop lifters and then the cam lobe gets worn down. I have a 24' 6.4 RAM 2500 and so far I love the 6.4, just worry about this issue.
I’m leery about that very thing too. To bring it back without repairing the root cause of the prior failures would be just wrong. There would be no excuse for not fixing it because there have been so many examples. They must know the problem by now. It would be a disaster and totally embarrassing for Ram if they brought it back without fixing that problem. Customers would lose faith in Ram and especially that engine.
Heavy idling will do it every time. Poor maintenence too. Control your idling and keep up your maintenence and you should get great service from your truck.
Great video. Very much looking forward to the return of the 5.7 Hemi. Any chance of us seeing a long term review of your Power Wagon anytime soon?? A break down of the reliability, likes and dislikes, and cost of ownership?
I mean, its a combination of both ditching the v8, and the classic, ontop of stupidly high prices due to Tavares keeping his foot down, until they ousted him. He wanted everything to be luxury prices, when the brands just don't work that way. I agree, more choice is always better for the consumer, so everyone can get what they want for engine choices. Ford and GM both offer a plethora of engine choices, for everyone's needs/wants.
I'm going to press X to doubt because we have had zero notifications about this happening. On top of that, they spent a lot of money on this redesign with the Hurricane.
The problem RAM had, as with other manufacturers who choose to take a working platform and replace it with something not tried and true and then give the customers no other option. At least Ford had the 5.0 V8 when they introduced the Ecoboost, they also had a natural V6 as well as a cheaper alternative. RAM as others should have kept their V8 and V6 option's and added the new twin turbo inline 6 and work out the bugs while offering other alternatives. Get rid of the problematic cylinder deactivation and direct injection only. Either a tried and true port design or a dual system. For now, for my money Ford is the clear winner on options alone. GM is compelling but I think RAM trucks are the best looking but need to do some serious soul searching and offer a reason to make people such as myself switch to RAM over the competition. As far as the foreign market is concerned, domestic trucks are the kings here 🤙🏼🇺🇲
If a v8 came back to the current charger platform it woud have to be a new from the ground up engine around 5.0l and it would probably be ohc vs push rod
I read in a comment from another channel that there was another V8 engine Chrysler was working on. And from what I gathered, it's a V8 version of the 3.6 Pentastar V6, making it a 4.8 V8. Since the Pentastar is a 60° V angle, the V8 would have it as well, making it suitable for the new Charger Daytona. But we'll just have to wait and see.
Nobody brings up the increasing prices since 2019, that’s probably the biggest reason sales are down. People would buy the Hurricane version if they were reasonably priced
Need a supercharged E-85 only version and a twin turbo version. Lock up 5M gallons of E-85 and it has the best emissions ever. Put in a 45 gallon Ethanol tank and you are a f'in hero.
I'd be happy to see a 5.7 hemi return. I purchased a new f150 with a 5.0l v8. I hsbe a couple friends that were gonna do the same. They might hold out now because they are ram guys
they should wait because even if the 5.0 might be faster because of weight ratio it does not deliver very low end torque like the 5.7 do so well! I like the way the HEMI 5.7 deliver its power and I owned 2 5.0 before so
Here’s my Idea, y’all think about it. Standard engine, the SO hurricane (420hp), bring the 6.4L Hemi to the 1500 line up and make it as a mid engine trim like an RT or SRT-8. Then we get the RHO. The 6.4L Hemi could be a single-cab with 450-475hp or more, with a 8 speed or even a manual. And the performance could be a 0-60 of 4.5-5s stock just my idea
i was excited for a inline 6 going in a ram howevor the twin turbos is what turned me away one turbo im ok with but 2 to me just to much failer risk. if it was like a 4 or 5 l nat asp or even single turbo i woulda been on bord.
I’ve always owned ram. But after having the SST I’ll never get another 5.7 lol. MDS RUINED V8s. They’ll have to do some serious engineering to the v8s for them to compete with this inline. A simple tune ur getting over 500hp and over 500 torque on the standard output version
They really need a brand new engine if they're bringing back the V8. The Hemi hasn't had a real update as far as I can tell since 2008/2009 minus the electric power steering (+5 hp) and eTorque system (+0 hp).
LOL "and eTorque system (+0 hp)" love it. it would be nice to see maybe a bump in power but you are right the hemi has not been really updated since 2009. even if they changed the intake or something and added another 15hp that would be a nice touch.
I mean really they could always just tune it to add like 15 hp and torque and call it a day maybe add a different air intake or something (please fix the headers please) and you probably have a really awesome truck.
Ram needs to fix the other gremlins with their products too. Personally I don't understand why more manufacturers haven't taken pages from what RAM is trying to do with their hybrid that uses the engine as a generator. But also, bring back inline 6 engines! Even without the turbo.
There is still existing 2024 models with the Hemi. Id be interested in how many of those sold in comparison to the hurricane models. I know I picked the 2024 over the new Hurricane
4:30 I hear this stat, that Ford and GM sell more non-v8's in their 1/2 tons but those numbers do not really tell the whole story. 1. Those engines are all the cheaper option, so are people choosing them or are they just going the cheaper route? 2. Dealer lot availability plays a huge role. People can easily buy those smaller engines in the popular trims as they are more likely to find them on lots, ready to purchase and drive home today, hooray!!! lol. Whereas the V8's are more "scarce" and often times require ordering and since the engine option costs more to begin with you can get hit with a "double whammy" as many dealers have more "cash on the hood" and "deals" on the trucks sitting there on their lots vs only really getting manufacturers incentives when placing an order. So, V8's are "harder" to purchase the exact one you want, cost more, and take longer..................................I think these factors heavily influence those sales numbers. IMHO of course, lol.
Another thing to consider is the Coyote, and Ford in general, did not build their entire brand identity around the 5.0, or the previous 5.4. Ram, via their own hand, made HEMI synonymous with RAM. They, and Dodge/MOPAR, courted and shepherded in the modern V8 movement, more so then any other brand. For some HEMI owners they may as well sell the truck without wheels if it does not have some semblance of a V8 in it. lol It also did not help that the Hurricane is about the lamest sounding truck engine imaginable with the stock exhausts. lol
Remaining 2024 Hemi trucks are commanding huge dollars in my area. Some Widow trucks are going for 100K. I don't know why, though. It's fine as V8's go. But it has been surpassed by other motors. If they do bring it back, and it replaces the Hurricane (which I highly doubt), it needs to make significantly more power. Like, I dunno, Hurricane hp/torque?
As an owner of both engines, I’ll never go back to the HEMI, I do miss the sound but the power!especially when towing is far better than the V8. The HEMI is like a Harley, they sound great but go nowhere compared to the turbo engine.
We rented a brand new Grand Wagoneer for vacation last year with the HO 3.0 Hurricane. It really moved that SUV quick, tons of power. Averaged about 19mpg for the whiole trip too, not too bad.
Maybe if we could get a truck for under $80,000 with more than a 4 foot bed, but enough room to seat 9 people they might sell more. But what do I know.
WOW! From 700,000 units in 2019 with the debut of the DT truck, to a measly 430,000 units in 2024 with the same truck really tells the story of the company's pricing failures. Damn... Thanks for the data, brother.

DT Trucks are the segment leader hands down! Theres not many trucks as refined and smooth as the dt trucks.
Put the 6.4 in the Ram 1500. Revise it for 450 HP/500Tq.
This 👆🏻
I’d buy that
Exactly. They are still making the 6.4 Hemi so I’d think it would be easier to just increase production on that vs building a new line for the 5.7.
@@texas737pilot Yep that would open my wallet. 700 HP is too expensive for fuel.
No way. It's hard enough keeping the wheels from spinning with a 5.7.
As a 5.7 hemi owner, I have to say it's easily one of the engines of all time!
I agree it is a an engine of all time
Definitely an engine of all time
I disagree for the simple fact of idling causing lifter failure.
@@camreid1457 I see what you’re saying but lifter issues or not it’s still an engine of all time. Lol

Can't believe they didn't offer both choices, 5.7 hemi and the 3.0 Hurricane. Makes so much sense from a business decision.

@fishonalbertaoutdoors9761 except tow better and faster w/o supercharger but yes Ford have the right idea to keep the 5.0 around...

Just remove all the cylinder deactivation garbage and we are in business!
No way, then we wouldn't get 11.7 mpg in the City with a hemi hybrid. 😂 😂
Except Rams MDS is the most robust multi displacement system in the biz…. And rarely fails… lifter failure has nothing to do with the MDS system.

I hope 100 years from now GM still offers the 6.2, Ford still has the 5.0 and Ram still offers the 5.7. I’ve driven all of them and they are all great
Great news I still have my 2014 with 89000 miles
Great video. Very much looking forward to the return of the 5.7 Hemi. Any chance of us seeing a long term review of your Power Wagon anytime soon?? A break down of the reliability, likes and dislikes, and cost of ownership?
That would be a great video tbh. been thinking about doing something like that
Until someone builds a reliable v8 in a half-ton, i'll keep my thirsty but highly reliable '08 Tundra.
Be back as a buyer when is true!
5.7L 1500 power wagon. Make it happen!!!
Honesty just put the 6.4 in everything. Better engine and more power. And they dont have to juggle an additional engine in their production.
I'm going to press X to doubt because we have had zero notifications about this happening. On top of that, they spent a lot of money on this redesign with the Hurricane.
I Hope we get an option for a 5.7 Hemi truck with out Gimmick ETorqe
Incredible film sir Alex
Doesn't matter who's driving... things are so uneasy right now, I can't imagine sinking myself into debt on a new RAM no matter the engine.
🐶 my two-door square box 5.7 Hemi with eagle heads freaking hilarious🍀🤘
Between tim and our new government defunding the EPA and removing a ton of regulations, I knew this would happen and thank God for it
Nobody brings up the increasing prices since 2019, that’s probably the biggest reason sales are down. People would buy the Hurricane version if they were reasonably priced
TK's Garage knew this months ago, he has good sources.
He does seem on top of the insides scoops
Looks like you got a new grill for the old 7.3 power stroke....😊
No to the e-torque. If that's the only option, coyote would be my choice unless Chevy/GM can fix their lifter issue.
2500 Power Wagon FTW.
Put the hellcat oil pump on it.. And put the thing in the gladiator as a 3k option
Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator are rumored to get the 345 C.I ICE also.
Now if Toyota would just bring back their legendary 5.7 for the Tundra
I think more people would have gave the hurricane more of a chance if it had a bigger displacement. Should have made a 4 liter or something bigger.
Finally! There’s more work to do with a truck than tow a camper on a nice paved road and launch at green lights! 😂😂😂
i was excited for a inline 6 going in a ram howevor the twin turbos is what turned me away one turbo im ok with but 2 to me just to much failer risk. if it was like a 4 or 5 l nat asp or even single turbo i woulda been on bord.
It's great having a hemi hybrid --- 11.7mpg in the city. lol.
like i mentioned the "mild hybrid system" is basically putting lipstick on a pig
Pretty sure gen III Hemi came out in 2003. I DO think there was a body style change around that time
I’ve always owned ram.
Good business decision👍🏾🔥
Ram needs to fix the other gremlins with their products too.
Personally I don't understand why more manufacturers haven't taken pages from what RAM is trying to do with their hybrid that uses the engine as a generator. But also, bring back inline 6 engines! Even without the turbo.
There is still existing 2024 models with the Hemi. Id be interested in how many of those sold in comparison to the hurricane models. I know I picked the 2024 over the new Hurricane
Funny it’s all about the sound…. If they bring it back give it just as much horsepower as the hurricane!
Afther 3 hemi,s i love my limited. Huricana HO its a beast .
For some HEMI owners they may as well sell the truck without wheels if it does not have some semblance of a V8 in it. lol
It also did not help that the Hurricane is about the lamest sounding truck engine imaginable with the stock exhausts.
Need to updated the 5.7
Its awesome that its back but at what markup?
I'm hoping the straight six proves itself to be reliable and if so that is the one I would want.
