God, that running animation looks so good. I seriously wish whatever Sonic game comes out next has a similar kind of energy and dynamism in its animation.
I would've KILLED to have a Sonic game like this back in the mid 90s... The hand-drawn character renders mixed with the DOOM-style level aesthetic works incredibly well here.
TrippleJazz made the sprites, the code was handled by another user. MotorRoach later ported it to 2.2 with the bullet dash instead of the homing attack.
I think that’s kinda the point. The levels are sprawling and there’s a really high ceiling (if any at all) that allows for and often encourages use of the mechanic.
This is how Sonic should have been in his first 3D outing. No complex storylines, with a focus on gameplay and player enjoyment, with the graphics pushing the full potential of the system it's in.
Me on the outside: Seems like a well-animated mod with unique mechanics that adds security for newer players while creating more freedom and shortcuts for experienced players who know the map. *Sips wine* Me on the inside: Gotta rock it, gotta juice it...

@@jballs5434 No. First of all, this game uses the legacy doom engine and not the vanilla dos engine, so it isn't compatible with such old machines. Then, if it used another engine compatible with 90s machines, the game would still be too powerful to run. Such big levels with lots of objects and high framerate sprites! This could easily run on a 5th gen computer or console, but not 4th gen things in the early 90s!
I honestly think the air dash is the definitive classic sonic ability. You see it used in the opening sonic CD cut scene and it’s just so good, makes a lot of sense, AND works with secret paths
I just love how Junio Sonic rewards speed for good play. Speed to me, has always been a privilege in Sonic. A reward. It encourages good play and mastery of the level design. That's what I love about this character mod. Plus he just looks amazing. It feels like you're playing an animation.
Hello! I’ve been having issues with the camera when activating the bullet dash. I actually have to pan up to use it vertically, almost to the point where Sonic is out of frame. What camera settings are you using in this play through?
Now with this model of sonic the rendering distance drawn way back and the enemy's turned into 2d sprites this could be the sonic on Saturn we never had
Can anyone pass me the camera settings for Junio Sonic? Everytime i use the bullet technique in air i basically loose track of where im pointing and get swallowed by the camera. :( Also I cant find the music to the Apologue Pack anywhere or it's source, but i find some of the stage songs pretty cool!
it would be a rip of knuckles but it could take him to the temple that fogged up where he would lite the way to find keys to unlock passages to an emerald. like you cant see unless you traveled that length or a "mystical lamp bug " or something is activated lighting the area and its timed based on rings you gather

I love the style and animation, but that charged jump seems ridiculously OP. Looks like you can basically be catapulted anywhere you want.
I think that’s kinda the point. The levels are sprawling and there’s a really high ceiling (if any at all) that allows for and often encourages use of the mechanic.
Maybe give it a high skill ceiling, like if you had to charge it and release it at the right time.
Honestly I'd prefer to have a mod which just replaces the Thok with this.
I really wish that instead of dash mode, Junio had a third run cycle for speeds over the speed cap, and that's how the peel out would work.

This game’s art style is legit one of the reasons I want to see Sonic Islands grow. Sonic Islands aesthetic is so similar to this but its full 3D.
You can legit put that Sonic in a more tropical setting and then put this same music there and it would be great

That midair spindash is a cool reference to the Sonic CD opening animation. This mod in general looks rad even if Sonic now looks a bit out of place.
The project has potential, but... the levels seem empty . I'm sure you'll work on that .
How many times did you try until you mastered those levels?
They attitude and persona of this sonic is in my opinion the gold standard for sonic. I really wish sega would use this design for sonic.

SRB2 isn't a game engine. It us an original full game, it just also happens to have a large modding community.

It doesn't replace the standard Sonic, it's added as a new character at the bottom of the character select screen.
