Best thing the writers could have done all those years ago would be to have Elena fall for Damon because of the sire bond and make her human again and know that she loved Stefan always he was always protecting her didn't kill her brother either made no sense for Elena and Damon to end up together but that's from a fan who watched the show when it aired what do I know
