Love the idea of Dad and Son bonding over nerdy legos! I'm looking at two games on display, preserved from my middle school years (Avalon Hill's Waterloo and Simulation Publication's War of the Ring) precisely because my memories playing them with my father. Enjoy the time and make those memories...

Helm's Deep is absolutely one of my favorite structure in Tolkien world. the place where it put on the between a mountain and Helm Story struck my heart. making it my most fav History
Wow, I just watched the two towers and told my wife she needed to learn more about this. And this video was released 4 minutes after I turned on TH-cam 😍
Helms Deep was always a favorite to watch but I love the way Tolkien wrote it and would have loved to seen that. Especially with Eomer being one of my favorite characters in the movie seeing him fight there would have been awesome.
As someone from the UK and a Tolkien fan for years, I’d just like to say what a terrific job you do in making these videos. You have an incredible depth of knowledge and a real overview of the whole of the world and history of Middle Earth.
Helm Hammerhand is probably my most favorite Character from LotR who wasn't in the 4 main books (besides a quick mention). He was truly a badass and deserved every bit of fear he instilled. Also Helm would also hunt the Dunlandings (and their allies) with a hammer occasionally.
So far every video has been superb! So clear, concise and draws one in...and the use of maps and pictures of the different people/parties involved is so helpful! Just love this channel...thank you for educating those of us who don't have time to study this stuff, but love it so much.

One of the most baffling and impressive things about Tolkien is his unbelievably detailed and vivid lore and backstory. To create a series of great stories, then characters, but also back story for each character and their family origin, and language, traditions, and culture is AMAZING.
It is said that after the horn in the hornburg was sounded before the charge of king Theodin. It's sound echoed throughout the valley as if something or someone was still blowing on it. Many believed it was the wraith of Helm Hammerhand blowing his own ghostly horn.
Superb. This is one of the best videos on this channel. Your geography-oriented method of storytelling fits perfectly with this kind of topic, more so, in my opinion, than the "Complete Travels of ..." series. I think you are at your best when you focus on geography rather than characters.
You could also have mentioned, that Tolkien was inspired by place names in eastern Jutland (Denmark) where you find the small Island of Hjelm/Helm, and where the waters between the island and Jutland, is called Hjelm Dyb / Helm's Deep.
Helm's deep one of the best fortresses and one of the best defensive forts of Rohan. But it has one weak point a weak spot when isengard forces attacked and the blast was happened. We always appreciate your hard work and dedication towards these videos.
Great video Matt! Helms Deep had such an awesome history behind it and its really fitting that they named it after Helm Hammerhand. I can’t wait to see more of this structure hopefully in WOTR!

Always learning something about Middle Earth here , I suggest the channel whenever I'm talking to someone about Tolkien... I got Ryan of RK OUTPOST to say my comment on his live stream , they were debating the upcoming Amazon series and questions of what Galadriel had or had not done, said Nerd of the Rings covered her whole story ... Love what you do , your true to the Tolkien lore 👍
After learning from you that Gimli and his people are gifted the caves I can imagine Helms Deep Becoming a sorta mix City of Erabor/Minus Tirith!! With the outside being for Men and inside Dwarfs!!
Video Idea: If the 3 armies of evil wouldn’t have come, who would’ve won between the Dwarves of Erebor and the Elves of Mirkwood with the men of Laketown? Love everything you’ve done and I hope you keep doing it, I’m a new subscriber but I’ve been binge watching your videos and I’m almost caught up 😆
2:16 Re: the names on the map changing: I get why "Calenardhon" changes to "Rohan"; also why "Minas Ithil" becomes "Minas Morgul" although that happened 500+ years before. I don't understand why the name of the river "Gwathló" vanishes, though.
I'm gonna subscribe to Nerd of the Bricks just so you have to buy that hella expensive Lego set way earlier than you thought ;-D Seriously though, looking forward to even more content - you are super entertaining and informative.
I did not remember that Eowyn took the women & children to Dunharrow instead of the Glittering Caves. I understand though why PJ had them all in the Caves in the movie.... made for more dramatic tension when the Uruks started breaking in. The Elves & Haldir showing up was kind of an unnecessary change, but it didn't bug me that much overall. I'm just glad they didn't go with the original idea of Arwen showing up too! Great stuff though, sir :)
I find it funny that no Steward ever decided to become King, even when all were certain no appropriate heir remained, or would appear, yet they had the authority to make another man a king, and start the royal line of Rohan. Good thing none of the other, later Stewards felt this gift of their own territory had been a mistake, and demanded its return from the "phony king" of Rohan.
Well, they acted in the "kings behalf". They didn't have the numbers of people to fight in their northern realm and knew the Rohirrim had "the opposite" issue in the north: Too many people and too little land, so this was a win-win situation for all: Gondor got an ally, that saved them from attacks from the west, east and north and Rohan got a land to live and strive on.
I've heard it explained that it's due largely to the Numenorean custom and law still maintained in Gondor, which is a highly conservative (in the sense of unchanging over time, not some kind of political rubbish) society. The steward proclaiming himself king would be in violation of the law, and would not be accepted by the people, and according to Numenorean custom a king needed his peoples' consent to rule.
Modern Prime Ministers do not seek to become Kings or even Presidents usually. It's a relief of ceremony and usually less formality required to pass the title on too.
I love to see your growth, it feels like you did the 500k stream yesterday :) Keep up the great work! Socialblade says that you'll have 980k by january next year.
I know this is a super long shot, but would you mind doing a video that explains in detail Aragons claim to the throne of Gondor? I have already seen your video about Aragon before LOTR and your video on Isildur, but I am still a bit confused. I would prefer something with a family tree in the side of the video where characters are cross off a they die, so that it is clear what line remains possible candidates for the throne and what died out. Hope you find the idea good enough to create a video :)
