These land rovers are very popular in Australia, I once watched a friend on a 4wd course in a stock rover school a built wrangler through a pile of obstacles that they both made but only one was stock but he had his whole family on board😂🤪
The landrover V8, The history of this classic powerplant dates back further than you might expect. Work on the new ‘small’ V8 began at General Motors as far back as 1950, the earliest 3.8-litre unit being initially cast in iron but very quickly changed to alloy, along with a capacity hike to 4.1 litres.
Colt; #1 Thank You for calling the yard what it is, a Salvage Yard NOT a junk yard. and #2 not only is the Van rear end wider but it has wider drums and wider brake shoes. #3 Love your channel, the content is on point and you explain what, why and how.
The theory about running without a thermostat is not correct, however in some cars the turbulence near the water pump becomes a problem when the thermostat is removed. ABS being inoperative will somewhat cripple the offroad performance, the ABS/traction control compensate a bit for having open differentials in each axle.
These were built near Coventry, close to Birmingham, where we have the expression "Bostin" if something is particularly good. So you might, in faith, call this the Bostin Tea Party, and if/when it fails and turns out to be particularly wet and flavourless, you only have one letter to change.
These were very capable until the microprocessors go catawumpus. Then what good is electrickery, what you need is a Land Rover Defender with with a big bit of metal that goes "gerdunk". Apologies to Richard Hammond.
Shame the abs light was on and brakes not working - so no traction control - Disco 2 TC actually very effective and would have made that much easier! Great choice though for wanting something a little out of the ordinary.

Better tires, make room for the 33's, fix brakes and install the roll cage and you'll be good to go.
It will be amazing once you make sure you can shift into difflock.
