  • I finished my 1/6 scale FV107 Scimitar this spring, and finally, the how to-video is done. Hopefully, this can inspire some people out there and show that you don't need a big money bag to get a 1/6 scale tank to drive with.
    About the model:
    FV107 Scimitar
    Lengt: 800 mm
    Weight: 19 kg
    Materials: hull made from plywood with 3D-printed turret and details. Tracks, drive wheels, road wheels, road wheel arms and tensioner wheel are all made from PLA+ and printed om ny trusty (4500 hours and counting) FlashForge Finder.
    Suspension: Homemade springs from 2 mm piano wire.
    Motors: Two 12 V electric screwdrivers (550 motors) with planetary gearbox left untouched. Set to drill-mode. 15 Nm of torque.
    ESC: Two Hobbywing 80A Quickrun speed controllers.
    Sound: Sense Dual Plus sound module.

    • @rb67mustang
      @rb67mustang 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, the plans are mostly a detailed drawing of the tank enlarged to the scale he decides to build, the rest is hard scratch building with a mix of 3D Printed parts. Yes, it would be great to be able to purchase the 3DP files if you were going to build the same scale tank. But scratch building is an art in it self if one has never done this type of work.

    such a nice slick model, big fan of the CVRT series, but then i have worked with them from time to time, some great detail, some slightly incorrect, but i'm being picky, you can be forgiven as i know the effect you are after, the engine and gearbox covers are louvre in style, something i always look for, i remember some years back a chap who created the artwork for the Revelle model taking photos of our Scorpion and noting he had done the louvre the wrong way round, but it always takes those who know every inch of a vehicle to notice - when like me, you have spent hours sanding and restoring vehicles you tend to notice a lot more - Leopards tend to be a favourite of mine, and my latest is the later variant of the Kodiak AEV3, do i set you the challenge haha

    Have you considered using a filament for the tracks that matches the final look? maybe a black, brown or rust color would look good I think. The light grey is ok but I feel like if a different option is equally cheap its worth the try and may look better

    • @builtbyWikander
      @builtbyWikander  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did some weathering of the tracks a few years ago to, as you say, make them a bit rusty and worn. Just haven't got around to do it again. I think that a good thing with gray tracks is that if you paint then rusty, they paint gets worn and the brighter grey shines through, as metal does on a real vehicle.

    Hey there, first of all I just wanted ant to say that what you’re doing is absolutely amazing and I’m enjoying every second of your videos!
    I just couldn’t help but notice some artefacts on the print at 9:57 which I’m guessing were caused by Low wall count and infill to save some print time. You might already know this but since your friend printed them I’ll say it anyways if it can help, you can print the walls before the infill (usually a check mark in the slicer) and they should disappear saving you some sanding time! (On the other hand, overhangs might look a bit worse):)

      Hi! Thanks a lot for watching and for the very kind words! Yeah, I think you are right - I'm not sure how many layers my friend used, but I'm guessing not more than 2. I'm not seeing this appear on parts with 3 layers or more. Anyway, huge thanks for the tip, it will definitely come in handy in the future!

      Hi! It's a small 9g servo with a metal rod that opens and close it when I flick a switch on the radio. 🙂

    Hello friend, thank you in advance for all the tips you have been giving me. As I don't understand painting, I would like to know why you paint everything gray before the final painting? Is this gray paint a regular paint?

    • @builtbyWikander
      @builtbyWikander  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, no problem! The gray paint is either the aluminum primer that is needed to prime aluminium before painting, so that the paint sticks and don't flake, or it's spray putty that I use to give the 3d-printed surfaces a smoother look. It also works as a foundation so that the real paint looks the same on all places of the model when it is applied.

    Another amazing build! May I ask how you get the dimensions of the tanks you make?

    • @builtbyWikander
      @builtbyWikander  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I find the measurement and blueprints on the internet and scale them to the right size. If something is extra tricky, I buy a 1/35 model as reference.

    Hey , Wikander amazing video!!! could I ask what equipment you use to create RC models?!!? Im saving up for a Cross-RC MC8 and seeking to add a Toyan Four-cylinder Four-stroke Water Cooling Nitro Model Engine FS-L400 to make it a hybrid and was wondering what equipment model engineers like yourself need inside you garage? Thanks!

      Hi, thanks so much for watching! The tools and machines I use are pretty basic - mainly what you see in the video: a small table band saw, a pillar-drill and a small table sander. The sander is probably the most important of all tools, since it allows me to make 90 degree corners and sides. The table band saw is mostly used for cutting things roughly. I then sand the pieces to the right size with the sander. I could do with a real circular table saw, but I don't have the space. 🙂 Aside from that, it's basically hand tools - screw drivers, hammers, rulers, etc. The number one tool to make my models, however, is the 3D-printer. Best of luck with your build, it sounds like a really awesome project! 👌

    Do you have any plan to sell the STL files.

      Hi and thank you for the kind words! It's so cool when people that has worked with them get in touch. It's harder to hear from some one with hands on experience of ww2-stuff. 😊 Right now, I'm not selling any files... I think I need to adjust them a bit if someone is going to pay for them.
