There was a case in my town in the UK in which an 8 year old girl was attacked and her throat was slit in front of her parents on mother's day on a park full of people. The woman who killed her got 8 years on a plea of insanity. I think the only insane people in these cases are the lawyers defending the offenders and the judges handing out the sentences.

@Frank Marano False, that’s from sleep deprivation, mental illness, and high levels of abuse. Doctors, lawyers, CEOs, use meth. I use every other day, but it’s not addicting. I don’t even touch it early in the day, nor do I think about it at all or crave it.
I trade stocks from 6am-1pm without the use of it, then for my next job which requires lots of energy, I use a very small amount to get through the day. Drinking alcohol is more neurotoxic than a few hits of meth. I have white teeth, sleep everyday, eat well, and no one can tell when I’m on it.
He is sober now and doesn’t regret it, doesn’t matter if he was high.

Killing a cop is usually a ticket to the electric chair. In his case, he killed two. The best he could hope for is life in prison or in a straight jacket so that's probably what he going for.
They do remove them from the public. The case of insanity vs sanity is to determine where he goes though. If the ruling is sane, he will likely be put to death. If the ruling is insane, he will be put in an asylum.

Some criminals I guess would have some honor in them, I mean from a bunch of time there you can learn about it. And shooting someone who can't defend himself.. and then killing him AND making fun of it... it's just... sad for every kind of people... some bit of anger for that guy comes up.

Cops are not people who can't defend themselves in a shooting, the cops who died failed at defending themselves which is why they are dead at this moment and the fact is a cop killer is not on the same level as a child killer or molester (cop killer is near top of the chain).
He was high at the time, but he wasn’t high when he said he’d break out and do it again.
The temporary insanity plea won’t stick. He’s permanently insane.
Which would also be a mitigating circumstance to get him off these charges. If you’re clinically insane you shouldn’t get thrown in prison you should get put into a mental health institution.
