With tears in my eyes this performance of Dvorak's, perhaps, greatest creation I submit ; soul-stirring! The Conductor has fired this Orchestra to such a level; he did so with Dvorak himself in this brilliant young man's heart . Thank you
The 8th Symphony is not under-performed. Many American orchestras do it quite often. The Dvorak 8th will be on an upcoming Los Angeles Philharmonic concert - I hope to be there.
@@carlhopkinson How am I a smart aleck? I agree that the 8th Symphony is a fantastic masterpiece (as is the 7th), it's just I don't think it's underplayed.
@@murrayaronson3753it does get a fair crack of the whip these days, but, often merely to showcase a conductor's talents as they pull the tempi around. This performance is so beautifully natural, isn't it? Recent Dvořák has been exciting. There is good work going on by the German Radio Symphony Orchestra, and this is just world-class.
This might be my favorite Dvořák symphony as well (maybe along with the 7th), but I've read that the 1958 recording of it by George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra is the best version. I tend to disagree with that assessment because I think many portions of Szell's version are too rushed. I much prefer the pace and tempo of this one by the Rotterdam because it brings out more subtleties, and Yannick's direction is perfect.
Dan Blanchette I suggest you listen to the Frankfurt radio symphony play this song on TH-cam with Manfred honeck conducting, his interpretation of the tempo along with the quality of the recording makes it my favorite, it sounds quite similar to this one, it is just slightly sharper
Rhythmical and well-articulated performance of this perfectly composed masterwork without superfluous ethnic flavor. The brass section is particularly excellent. Thanks for the nice upload with highest possible sound quality!
Yannick Nezet-Seguin also led this orchestra in the definitive Nutcracker Suite. Absolutely marvelous. His exuberance was perfect forTchaikovsky's music. Great fun. So good to see him again here.
Well, my friends always tell me I should visit Amsterdam, but if the musicians of Rotterdam are this good, I'd be just as happy to visit there instead. I checked, and the hotel rooms are reasonable. Maybe I could see some modern architecture and some interesting museums, and I hope that visitors are permitted to look at the big port operations. I'm like an overgrown child and I love to see freight loaders, cargo ships, and the mechanisms that control the ocean water. People of Rotterdam, I hope you'll forgive me for not speaking your beautiful language.
Rotterdam is a winner in all you've stated. I respect and share your fascination with ships, ports and maritime activity. Oh yes, Dvorak's 8th is superb and exceeds the 9th.
Well, don't know where you are from, but the Netherlands are so small, that you can easily visit both! ;-) Also stop by at Leiden, my home town! Also nice! Regarding this 'beautiful' language... Not everyone shares that opinion! ;-)
Meu maestro favorito. Quanta humildade!
I would like a list of the 40+ non-musical idiots who voted a thumbs down on this magnificent performance of Dvorak's most stirring work. I see now why the conductor was named only the third Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera. He is going to do great things in New York. The brass section of this orchestra deserves special plaudits for playing with such passion. Bravi tutti, and to all who withheld their coughing for the intervals.
Composizione Dvorak periodo tardo romantico 19 secolo, nazionalità Cecoslovacchia (tempi moderni la nazione divisa in due Stati nazioni separate: Repubblica Ceca, Slovenia)
I am going to play this symphony within some weeks conducted by the predecessor of the then Korean solo cellist. By the way, I accompanied this cellist with my orchestra 3 years ago in the cello concerto of Saint Saens.

just gorgeous.....every note is perfect.
A very under-rated symphiny, for which I am eternally grateful to my first wife! And beautifully played.
Not under-rated at all. The 8th Symphony is firmly in the repertory; it's performed often. Which is A-OK with me!
The more I listen to this, the more I like it. It is a fantastic vastly under-performed masterpiece!!

Dvorak Symphony No. 8 Time Markers:
I. Allegro con brio 0:00
II. Adagio 10:52
III. Allegretto grazioso 23:01
IV. Allegro ma non troppo 29:10
Now that standing ovation is a proper tribute to one of the great works of art of modern musical history.
This orchestra brings the proper enthusiasm for this great work and it sounds in their playing.
Amazing performance of a great symphony. Kudos to flutist!
Extremely evocative movement. One of the best 43 minutes I have spent on TH-cam. I should love to see this orchestra play.
This performance makes it all worth it!! Bravo!

Magnificent interpretation, thank you.
Absolutely breath-taking performance ! Love, Love !
especially the 3rd movement is so romantic !
That was wonderful! I could watch Yannick Nézet-Séguin all day.
So could I. His Nutcracker is wonderful. You catch yourself smiling at the screen.
At the finish, even though at my desk, I stood up and applauded for 5 minutes too.
Amazing cello sound !
Stunning performance really.
A favourite symphony - loving this performance. Thanks for sharing.
Love Dvorak!!!!!!
Great memories! 💜💜💜
Man, what I would do to listen to this live...
Great performance of a favorite of mine.
Best ever in my opinion.
Among the very best I have ever heard that flute solo played.
Great Works! Yannick Nézet-Séguin ....
Excellent conductor and terrific performance!
Great to see Korea's famous cellist in the Rotterdam philharmonic! So proud of her!
Jinkyung Kim what is her name?
Her name is Hee-Young Lim.
Don't be so modest. Rotterdam Philharmonic should be proud to have her.
Wow very nicely done👏👏👏👏
I NEVER KNEW THE THIRD MOVEMENT IS THE POPULAR THING WE HEAR ALL THE TIME IN COMMERCIALS.
WOAH
The third movement just dances into existence. Nezet-Seguin is its Pied Piper.
love the 3rd mov
Wonderful!.
31:40 a musician in love...
This is right up there in the stratosphere of Szell and the Cleveland.
Playing this performance only once is definatly not enough
Very nice music

Oh, yes. This is Dvorak's best symphony and this orchestra really performed it superbly. Rotterdam sounds like a good place to visit, too

I hope Master Nézet-Séguin is considering a cycle! 🙏
Dvořák the Best.

Perfeito!
Exquisite.
The woman playing principal flute is beautiful.
5:55 flute excerpt
Be careful ik if you turn up the volume for the intense triumph: the applause follows immediately!
You cannot beat Karajan though
Conductor's name, please
Reminiscent of the great Mahler symphonies.
It is? How so?
Composizione Dvorak periodo tardo romantico 19 secolo, nazionalità Cecoslovacchia (tempi moderni la nazione divisa in due Stati nazioni separate: Repubblica Ceca, Slovenia)
?where does the third movement begins
At 23:03
Can hear some strains that might have been written by Gustav Mahler.
29:10
👏❤️
very strange. the conductor totally ignored the first flutist in the end of the symphony.
Odlično
