Hi Guys! Based on the comments, it seems this episode has triggered a lot of debate. Let me weigh in. First, I totally agree with Gab’s first comment that this proposed rule does not address the problem. Instead, it penalizes the players whilst the schools which are better supported financially can still recruit the best players available. If the player truly wants more playing time, I propose this transfer mechanism. 1) After the UAAP season, all players whether from within UAAP or from other leagues, who wish to transfer to a different school from where they came from, will have to enter a transfer pool. 2) A draft process will be conducted wherein the lowest ranked team from the previous UAAP season will pick first and thereon after. 3) If selected, a player has the right to refuse to play for the team that selected him, but he will have to transfer to another league. For those not selected, any UAAP team can recruit him. 4) The player can immediately play in the upcoming season without any residency. If this process was implemented this year, the selection may have been as follows: UST - Luis Pablo (from UP) FEU - Noy Remogat (from UE) UE - Jacob Cortez (from San Beda) Adamson - Kean Baclaan (from NU) Of course, I am assuming these particular players were transferring to get more playing time. This mechanism prevents teams to employ financial incentives to obtain transferring players but benefits those players who truly just want to have the opportunity to show their talents. The issue with regards to better financially supported teams is another topic; which I leave you guys to discuss in a future episode perhaps.
If schools / coaches can choose who to line up, players should be given an opportunity to play. they deserve a great future, too. especially, a lot of them are, in reality, breadwinners. most of them are just finding ways to secure their future, too.
Agree imho players talaga ang tatamaan dito not basketball programs. Mabigat pa players who probably are not star players but those looking for an opportunity to be able to showcase their talents. There has to be a better way to regulate poaching. -Maui
I hope in your next episodes you can take up the following interesting topics: 1. Who among the transferees got the best deal? Is it Jacob Cortez,Kean Baclaan or Noy Remogat? How much signing bonus, goodwill money and monthly allowances each got? Likewise, how much was offered to KQ to stay with DLSU? There were stories before that he got already tempting offers to play in Japan. Eventually he decided to continue playing for La Salle. Im sure KQ got a very nice deal. Mac Cardona in one of the vlogs mentioned that star players now received as high as 500,000 monthly. Hope you can get more info about this. Interesting indeed to learn more about this. 2. This might be controversial to some but open secret to most are the offers made to blue chip recruits. Is it true that Jared Bahay was offered higher by Ateneo to decommit from UP. 8 million as compared to the 5 million promised by UP. Very intriguing to know if Jared gave UP a chance to match the offer? Did he get the best deal among the incoming rookies? Is it true that aside from money, they are offered an SUV and a condo? Zav Lucero was said to received USD 100,000 to play for UP. Well, it was well worth all the money as he help win a title for UP. Many years ago, Rayray Parks got a big deal at that time- 3 million signing bonus. Plus, his father was given a Sports Director job with the SM Group. Ryan Buenafe in his interview with Mikee Reyes mentioned tha t he got a car and condo plus unlimited budget for his drinking sprees. A group of alumni/handler was assigned to him for his money needs. I think Ryan was worth it. Helping Ateneo win 4 titles in its 5peat run. Missing 1 year due to an issue with one of the coaching staff. I consider Ryan as one of Ateneo's best players and a legend. Making big-time and impactful plays in all the championships he was part of. One thing he said that helped him decide to play for Ateneo was the scholarship also offered to his sister. That was his motivation to max-out his playing years and ensure that his sis will graduate with the scholarship. Now and presently, what are the innovative offers and packages for top recruits? I think Chicco Briones was recruited with his dad given an assistant coaching position. Does any school offer a house and lot/condo, SUV,jobs for siblings and relatives type of packages. What school offers the best package? Is the amount of money the main reason for players and parents? Interesting also to know how much Jacob Bayla, Alex Konov, Ramiro and Edu got? 3. How much budget do Ateneo, DLSU and UP have each year? Is it in the vicinity of 100 million? Consider the salaries of coaches and staff and the allowances of players plus foreign trips and trainings they undergo. CTB definitely earns more than PBA coaches. Coaching staff has ballooned to 9-12 including conditioning, scouts and analytics. Im not sure though if teams have a cap for recruitment offers to blue-chip recruits. All the best to your show. I'm sure more subscribers will follow your podcast. Wishing you more subs-( 100,000 by next year). I know you are not doing this for money but for your passion for UAAP basketball- just the same I wish you more sponsors, subs and views!!!
Thanks appreciate the kind words! You hit it right on the point, we are not doing this because of money but really all about passion for the game especially the Uaap because we’ve been supporters for decades and hopefully decades more to come. Also as much as we want to have a tell-all episode, all of these are mere “rumors” which I dont think anyone would want to confirm unfortunately. All we can do is speculate. I believe its to Gab’s point he suggested full transparency of benefits. -Maui
Thanks Maui for your reply. I agree. Very difficult indeed to ascertain these type of issues because it is considered " under the table deals". No contracts I suppose for the deals. However, you probably can discuss it even without mentioning names ( parang blind item) to avoid getting into trouble for your podcast. Say for example, a top recruit, a Fil-am was offered 5 million plus more by a final 4 team last year. Allow us your avid followers to guess who the player is. Just a thought to make your show more interesting. As we all know, we, UAAP fans, are sure that money and big budget helped Ateneo and DLSU contend consistently for the past many years. UP has joined the fray with billionaire Robina and Gov. Jonvic as the main benefactors and sponsors. Now, they got a lot of top recruits and will contend for the next 3 years or as long as money from their Ninang Robina keeps flowing in. I think it is only Ryan Buenafe who admitted in an interview what he got-perks, incentives. Most are still wary to discuss what they got. I hope you can check if players who already graduated will get into trouble if they will share and tell what they got before with their schools just like what Ryan did. Anyway, if you feel that this is too sensitive to discuss and you might get irate calls from powers- that-be then please set aside. Maybe in the future it will be feasible to discuss these issues. By the way, you can probably take this up with Sam and Gab. Specially Gab, who is very vocal and fearless with his views. If no possible problem, then you can have special episodes and interviews with past top recruits like Ricci Rivero, Dave Ildefonso, Kobe Paras, CJ Cansino, Carl Tamayo to name a few. Continue to provide us with regular updates. Thank you. All the best!
UAAP is just turning a blind eye to the real cause of poaching. I really wish they regulate and standardize "packages". i.e. equal benefits, allowances across all athletes, all schools based on UAAP income. If they do this, I doubt that a few schools would be able to load up. I believe the athletes would choose the best situations for themselves (and should be given the freedom to), should benefits be regulated and standardized.
Great points guys! People should note na majority of the UAAP transfers ay cases where the player wants to get more minutes. Si Baclaan and Remogat lang naiisip kong star players na nag-transfer because of incentives. Also, the proposed rule is problematic even if limited to "star athletes". Kasi what about "star athletes" who had to leave their universities because of some issue/uncertainty sa team? Most recent example of this is Padrigao (alam naman ng lahat ano malalang issue niya kaya he left Ateneo). Older examples include Rivero and almost the entirety of the UST MBT noong nagkaroon ng pandemic bubble issue (Cansino, Nonoy, etc). Tama na magkakaroon ng "talent drain" sa UAAP if this recent proposal pushes thru. The star players who really had to leave their former school would opt to transfer to another league like the NCAA. Tho mas sikat pa rin UAAP overall, foreign pro teams are also scouting the NCAA for talents (Abando and Oczon). And definitely mas madaling makakuha ng video clips sa NCAA since nasa youtube for free. 😂 And nice point about how this rule is a mere circumvention of the law. Nakakainis kasi instead na magfocus mga lawmakers sa madaming existing issues, itong UAAP gumagawa ng panibagong problema that the legislature will surely seek to address (I believe it's just a matter of time before may mag-bring up nito, sa dami ba naman ng graduates at connections sa Congress ng schools na nag-oppose). Ang dami na ngang clowns sa Congress at konti lang matitinong gumagawa ng trabaho nila tapos aatupagin pa ito. 😒
Very good points esp on the transfers of the UST players because of the Sorsogon Bubble. My hope is they revisit this rule and take a look at history. Hopefully they find a better way to address the issues plaguing the league. We dont want to turn into the PBA and dissaude fans because of team parity but at the same time have to look at circumstances of such transfers that look to threanten competition itself. -Maui
In the absence of any mechanism to regulate salary caps, etc. even in the PBA, this rule will have to suffice but it should only apply to a teams main 8-10 man rotation. Yan naman intention ng rule to prevent the transfer of the Baclaans and Remogats of the league. Bench players and training pool players should be allowed to transfer. Ok 1 yr residency but scrap the 1 year less playing eligibility just like in the NCAA. Form a committee to study athlete students that can evaluate and allow/deny such.
Interesting proposal dun sa main rotation. I agree as well to just have them sit out a year but don't count it a year of eligibility. Double whammy na eh - Gab
As much as we want these types of additions there are certain situations which would be unfaif to players as noted also by one of the comments in this video. What about players like Cansino, Nonoy, etc who had to get out of uncomfortable situations (sorsogon bubble) or Padrigao who needed a fresh start? Not all of the rotational pieces/players who transfer are poached some just need a new breath of fresh air to jump start their careers. Appreciate your intention though Sir! Please continue to share you thoughts on our channel. We love it. - Maui
Gab: let's put out there. There's incentives. There's money involved. Sam: Huhhh may ganun ba? 😂😂😂 Pero ang tunay na makikinabang dito, NCAA. magta-transfer na lang mga players dun para lang makapag laro in their full potential without shedding their playing years.
The proposed rule figure to create problems instead of solve one. For one, it will not discourage players from transferring from one school to another as they can just opt to transfer to the other league (ncaa) where rules are not as stringent. UAAP faces a "talent drain" in the long run. Think Robert Bolick, Renz Abando, Larry Muyang, etc.
i heard this from Jason Kidd, "players just want to play and get paid." As long as may schools with these big backers, di titigil transfers. if you don't have money, wala ka talagang chance sa bidding war for the talented players. it's becoming a trend na rin for current student athletes to maximize the bag (as they should). if they don't find money in college, they might turn pro na lang.
Totoo naman. We've always been supportive of players getting the bag and what they're due. Alam mo yan, Apo haha It's when the image, quality, and reputation of the league are affected that it becomes an issue. Ayaw naman natin maging PBA ang UAAP 🤣🙏 - Gab
@@bolerosph Too late. Accept moneyed programs ldlsu and admu into the yuap, then expect money to flow in freely. Bring in more tycoons like tan (ue), sy (nu), gokongwei (up) and now ang (uste), then expect more money, to flow more freely lol
The problem with the UAAP is that when a UAAP team does suspect things like poaching they punish the student-athlete. They should punish the school for poaching.
+1000000 on this, Miggy. Makes you think if school officials should really be making these decisions. Because they will try to protect themselves and the institutions they serve
On point. Poaching will be a big issue if not handled well and properly. Making the players suffer by requiring them to sit-out and lessen their playing years will not solve the problem and unfair for the players. It will be better if the UAAP Board and teams will come into agreement to eradicate poaching by setting conditions for player transfers: 1. Player must notify the UAAP board and explain the reasons for his request for transfer. A committee will review if the reasons cited are valid. 2. Indicate the school/schools as preferred destination. 3. Notice will be given to all schools about a player's request for transfer. 4. If with valid reasons and approved by the committee, a player cannot just go to his desired school but will have to allow the other schools to make an offer. Based on previous team records/standings will be the order for negotiation with the player if they are interested. Last team or worst record previous year will have the first crack to talk to the player. They can come up with other conditions to discourage poaching. Then, when conditions are met and full transparency was observed. No more penalties to the players by way of sit-out and lessened playing years since due process was followed and all teams were notified and given the chance to talk to the player. I don't think teams will continue to poach if they know that there will no guarantees they can get players to transfer if strict conditions are required and there is a process to follow. Aside from poaching, another issue the UAAP Board must and should address are the offers made to blue chip recruits. I don't know if they have written policies concerning this issue. Big-budget schools like DLSU, Ateneo and UP will continue to get stronger if they can offer more money to top recruits. Bidding wars will continue. I'm surprised that no UAAP school has filed a complaint or request for inquiry about the alarming astronomical offers made. Could be " mahuli taya mentality and mindset na lang." Could be each team or majority of the teams are doing it anyway. Very interesting to see if UST can win a title in 3 years with the full backing of SMB. If it does, then it will prove the power of money to win titles. UP did it in season '84, Ateneo and recently La Salle with the full backing of billionaire Enrique Razon.
Very good points. Having a transfer portal similar to the NCAA in the US can also provide transparency. There the league will be notified of a players intention the transfer and thus can have better oversight on this. Sucks to see that the players are potentially gonna take a blow pa if this rule change proceeds. -Maui
Agree, they are not addressing the elephant in the room. The UAAP is a professional league. Every year lumalala, dati bench lang transferring, it’s only now na super stars. There has to be a way to regulate allowances to make it fair. One step, take out corporate sponsorship. Just to compare, a US NCAA uniform is void of brands, sa UAAP halos 4-5 brands.
It's a sad reality that money is a big driving force in the UAAP landscape in terms of player movement. But even sadder that the UAAP board is not recognizing it (or even allowing it to happen)
Hindi lang elephant, gorilla on the table pa. Yung financial disparity among schools ang ugat. That or barat lang yung iba, kuripot ang alumni etc. Bakit di na lang mag-impose ng cap? Kunwari pa kasi “student league” kyeme. Kaya lang pipe dream ito. No one will admit na manipis lang ang pitaka nila.
1.) Scholarships or yung iba Mataas na Quality of Education. 2.) Dorm if malayo yung tinitirahan. 3.) Good Quality of Food. 4.) 5k-10k Allowance. 5.) Good Development Program. 6.) Kung Blue Chip Pasok agad sa Team A Hindi lang Sa Basketball yan Sikat kasi ang Basketball kaya maingay in the End of the day ang UAAP at NCAA at iba pang School Sport League ay Amatuer Sport in nature at dapat tini-treat bilang Amatuer eh hindi maaga pa lang tinuturuan ng Mali atsaka may Culture of Corruption din yang Under the Table deal tatak Korupsyon yan tapos yung mga School na gumagawa ay yung nagyayabang na ang School nila ay nagtuturo ng Moral Values o Nagpo-protesta against the Wrong of Society pero tahimik sila kalokohan dito yung iba pa todo tanggol pa tapos may ganang magsalita about Korupsyon sa Bansa.😂
@@mikered1974 haaay im with you. Kaya lang i really believe college ball has taken a dark turn. Very dark. The money being spent on recruitment is just scary. I can understand corporates lining up to support their teams. Napaka powerful kasi as branding vehicles ang mga teams : Fighting Maroons, Blue Eagles, Green Archers, Growling Tigers. But there is another source of money that’s not being mentioned. And the money is scariy BIG: sports betting. At least indirectly imposible na hindi nawiwisikan ang college ball. And why not? Mas malaki na ang viewership ng college ball (volleyball pa) kesa PBA. At pag binasa mo ang chat content sa streaming preseason, ang main topic ng karamihan ay logro. Odds. Ambabata pa sugarol na!!! I hope boleros can call out this thing in future. It’s here to stay. Mabuhay Boleros! Go State U! Go San Beda Fight! 😊
I don’t think it will be a fair playing field if tatanggalin ang sponsorship? Why? Example UP, it’s a state university that gets its funding from GA and government agencies. With lots of infra projects and other spendings, the sports program is not funded well if GA lang ang pagbabasehan. So kakailanganin talaga ng state universities like UP ng funding outside. Have you seen other sports posting on facebook asking for help to go abroad and compete? The solution is for other schools to step up and have the alumni support the program.
What if..no more residency required pero 2 years of eligibility will be reduced? Then the rule wont be applied to Team B players so they can easily transfer schools?
Not sure how it applies now but as far as I know as long as you transfer even if you’re not from team A you lose eligibility. Recent case is probably Mur Alao. Anyhow I agree there should be no residency rule. As far as losing eligibility for transfering that should he another debate. Hirap lang kasi its always the players taking the blow for the transfer when in most cases its not even about poaching but more of finding a better opportunity to get playing time. Just my thoughts. -Maui
From my understanding, if a player who is in their 2nd year of playing in the UAAP and wants to transfer; he basically becomes a one-and-done (if my math is right). It is unfair, in a player's perspective, because they only have less than 2 years of playing and quite possibly not winning a championship. Great podcast again, was waiting for this! Cheers! Edit: Just to add, does this also apply with the age rule? When a player transfers who is 24 years of age, and then loses 2 years of eligibility, that player can no longer play since he is out of the age limit which is 25?
Yep, your math is correct. Definitely very punishing for a player if this pushes thru Regarding your question, if all factors remain the same, yes that would be the case
@@bolerosph Wow! if that is the case, I hope they extend the age gap to 26 instead of 25 if this happens. Also, I think the UAAP also forget that the parents of these players might complain even more because of this rule.
Ok lang naman yan.magkikita naman sila sa national team at pro kahit ma tenga sila or magpalipat lipay sila sa ncaa or ucal or ncraa etc etc…4 to 5 yrs or pag 24 n sila eh magkikita sila
On my opinion, i agreevwith what UAAP is doing now.. UaAP is now very commercialised.. And the problem in the Philippines is the corruption is very ramphant.. hence no way to control the schools if following UAAP rules.. though many said incentives like car, money & condo are open secret but it would be difficult for UAAP to prove it. Schools like UP, DLSU and ADMU can get any player they wants because they have so much money.. from their sponsors... Those school who has no much budget or sticking with the current rules losses out.
honestly. it's Pingoy weight issues ruined his career scapegoat na lang yung rule na yun. he played in ateneo and played well in adamson he had a lot of chances to regain his career, hindi lahat i-blame sa residency. Soc Rivera played right away i think his work ethics and allergic to books. we can't blame the other schools to support that rule lalo na yung mga small budget programs, sila ang naka-discover at nagdevelop sa mga players especially their homegrown players (HS) then suddenly these big schools will offer them, these big schools have the money pero hindi nila maimprove yung HS program nila.hehe. pero mali pa din yung propose rule, but we can't blame them diba? proper regulation lang okay na yun.
Yes proper regulation could be a solution. I hope they get the input of all shareholders most importatly the players too kasi sila pinaka affected. Re: Pinggoy I think sitting out for 2 years affected his development and possibly his playing weight. Imagine being in your prime and not being allowed to play for two seasons competitvely. Soc Rivera transferred twice (if im not mistaken) which took a toll on his development. He probably had all of the tools but didnt find the right environment. Just my thoughts. -Maui
Collegiate league kasi dapat ang UAAP basketball pero dahil profitable ito kaya naging parang pro n dahil pumasok n ung sponsorship st benefactors dahil dito may budget n sa piratahan or to entice players, nagkaka hardship dito ung ibang uaap member.agaist ako sa possible upcoming rules pero its better for fairness of the league.somehow they are doing something to stop yung piratahan within Uaap.
Agree naman that they are doing something with poaching pero hindi pa rin tama eh. The Pingoy rule already proved that and it took Congress intervention to stop it 😂 uulutin ba ng UAAP ang mali nila dati?
I'll just wait and see what happens next. This thing is too controversial for me to have my stand. But my stand is just stick with the current rule if di pa sila ready for the possible effects on the UAAP especially sa mga student athletes na matatamaan. But if they're gonna change, I suggest na direct play/no sit out but mababawasan ng 1 playing year. For example, I have 5 Playing yrs, I played my 1st year in DLSU, then lipat ako ng UE, no sitout na, immediate play na ako sa 2nd Playing year ko sa UE but I will only have 3 playing years left including that 1st yr as a Red Warrior/2nd Year Playing in the UAAP. Sorry if medyo magulo explanation ko 😅 suggest na lang kayo if disagree kayo sa suggestion ko 😅
@@bolerosph At the end of the day, these students has families to raise, majority of them are bread winners, some of them, may anak na, so I hope transferring will be more free.
if they want this to be taken seriously, enforcement shall be handled by an authority outside of the current league setup whose decision-making process revolves around each one's interests
The school politicians running the league continue to commercialize it and commoditize the student-athletes. The league is not about the interest of the schools or their sponsors or even the fans. The league is about the interest of the student-athletes.
Nope. Collegiate leagues, like professional ones, are a marketing tool. That's why you schools heavily investing in them. To drum up enrollment (revenues) and alumni sponsorships/support (even more revenues lol)
Maybe the UAAP think this rule is the easiest way to implement because there's no need of investigation regarding how much players receiving incentives to the schools. I know the players will suffer from this but they are the one also making decision to transfer and choose the big offer which reducing parity of the league. You control the player movement = you give parity, because you cannot control the school
much better trade system nlng. pag star player kukunin ng another school.
Simplest solution is combine the UAAP and NCAA, Make the tournament year long, single round elims, and 1 game knockout playoffs like the US NCAA. And like the US NCAA, the strongest lineup wont guarantee you winning it all, inferior teams can caught a superior team on a bad shooting day.
It would be good if you can discuss what are the possible solutions.. I do not agree to follow US NCAA way because again there will no equal competition among schools .. only the achool with big budget will gain.. And worse this will result like the PBA where they are losing game attendance because only SMC has it all
You can find creative solutions here in the comments. But yeah, we'll try to workshop some suggestions With regards to the US NCAA way, maybe we can follow their lead and have external auditors regulate and investigate the incentives players get. They have caught many under the table deals throughout the years by doing this
I get both side, but i think the board wants the 8 members got a chance to compete. In case of remogat. I think di naman siya pinabayaan ng UE. Pouching talaga ginawa ng UP. 3 teams la nman pupuntahan lagi, yung ng opposed ng rules. So what are your suggestions? Otherwise those 3 teams will be in the final four yearly if they won't be strict on transfering players.
There has to be a better way. You cannot penalize all athletes (not just basketball) because of said transfers. Players should have the liberty to do whats best for them without dire consequences. Not all players transfer because of poaching. What about those that need a new environment because of circumstancrs they have no control in? We all want parity but at what price? -Maui
It's an open debate. Like there's a reason why they don't have playing minutes. Maybe meron mas magaling sa position nila or marami sya ka posisyon sa team. That's why new recruits should think twice kung magagamit talaga sya sa napili nya team or nasilaw lang sa benefits.
Other schools should level up. As simple as that. Save for adamson (they did have akari sa sponsor, though brought in by franz, who's no longer with the school), all the other schools have their own share of very wealthy owners and/or alums Kaya nila makipagsabayan sa gastusan kung gusto nila
Why students are transferring? 1. Playing Minutes (Alao) 2. School Issues (Padrigao) 3. Dream School (baclaan with kq😂) 4. Incentives ( remogat😂😂😂) I think the most important parameter is playing Minutes. Pwede Gawin is like if a player average 10 minutes and below at gusto magtransfer . Let him play no sit out 2 years deducted to his eligibility. Same with school Issues and injured players. Pero kung more than 10 minutes nmn Yung playing time, the new rule may apply. Iwas poaching lng tlg. Haha
Galing nung examples! Hahaha A lot of suggestions like this are found in these comments. However, it could also be exploited by teams (like making sure to give minutes just prevent them from transferring).

Could be. But this could be exploitable too. Teams might force players to play heavy minutes just so they can protect their interest, even worst they can force players who are injured to play when unhealthy. Some players get minutes too but are not utiltized to the best of their abilities. Madaming factors at the end of the day, we should not penalize players too much if they think they can thrive more in another environment in my opinion. -Maui
@@bolerosph agree!, too many brilliant minds in college basketball, will surely exploit that idea or any rules for the benefit of their respective schools. haha. let's see what happens next. anyway, I do enjoy watching/hearing your opinions regarding college hoops, and also the comment section is less toxic. Healthy discussion lang. Nice
Another knee-jerk and counter-productive rule change proposal. I’m not gonna talk about student-athlete’s rights which have also been discussed at length by the other commenters. It basically incentivizes players to commit long term to their chosen UAAP school, or transfer to the NCAA/ go pro, etc. In the same way that the big programs cannot easily recruit stars of other teams, those perennially weaker UAAP teams cannot attract anymore players looking for more playing time. In short, those who are good in recruiting out of HS to begin with will remain powerhouses thanks to this rule. And with NCAA programs getting more well-funded recently, it will be better to transfer there instead for players who want to escape bad situations. In the end, talo pa rin yung weaker UAAP teams rito. They will be forced to find diamonds in the rough every year, hoping to find the next Remogat na na-pass on by other teams.
Good point. This could be the reason why teams are starting go put a premium on their highschool programs. The thing is I dont think teams will stop recruiting or worst poaching even if its in the detriment of the player. Teams will look to get stronger asap. With the current trend that players leave early to go pro, I dont think it would be a big factor to disicentivize star players who look get a quick pay day. The one’s who will take a big hit are players looking for better opportunies or a fresh start. Which is not the main reason why they are having this discussion to begin with. Appreciate the thoughts. -Maui
That what we are afraid of. Hopefully they make the right decision so we dont move in that direction. I understand why they are exploring this option because League parity should be a priority. Hopefully they find a better way to address this. I dont think this is the right solution.-Maui
In the past few seasons, UE star players has been targeted by other schools who got more big time backers. Hinde niyo masisi a school like UE kasi wala naman kayo sa sitwasyon nila every season na nawawalan ng star player. You guys don't know, as alumni of UE the feeling of loss and grief everytime we lost a star or s diamond on our team. It's a loss of hope every year that the red warriors finally reached final 4 after a decade of hope. Please respect my comment as I am really just disappointed in how things are going in the basketball landscape of UAAP. 😔 BTW, I am an avid listener of your podcast.
And also, I would say for the parity and school pride of every UAAP school, basketball doesn't stop only in the UAAP, if a star player of a team would rethink, to maybe go pro right away locally man or overseas, or even NCAA if they opted to transfer. And I believe the only way to stop or hindered sulutan, garapalan is to implement this rule especially sa mga star players. Nakakalungkot lang na ibang iba na yung UAAP Basketball before compare sa ngayon. Imagine Romeo going to UP. Parks going to La Salle. Or Sumang going to Ateneo.
I feel your pain, bro. I have watched more UE basketball the past few seasons than in the past 20 years. And it has been a blow a to lose good players left and right - Gab
I do hope the UAAP finds a way to solve their parity problem without having to punish players for free choice We, the Boleros, love it when each team is competitive and games are always close We feel you. We really do
Well, I am also actually concerned about the bench player, or even those players on team B, na until now they didn't get a chance to play or even line up in the actual UAAP games. Hopefully, in my opinion. Let's say a player A, who average below 10 minutes per game, can actually just need to sit out 1 year. But if player B plays more than that, then this rule can affect (1 year sit out & a two year eligibility exhausted) But let's say a player didn't play at all (Team B). I think they should allowed to play right away in other UAAP school or maybe just a year of residency.. Nonetheless, the UAAP should reconsider as well those players who just got benched throughout their uaap careers. Otherwise, as I said, there are other leagues other than UAAP where they can showcase their talents.
These guys re dillusional. They are aware specially in the premier sports like volleyball and basketball that student athletes is an oxymoron. A lot of them are including their families are well compensated and in some cases barely attend school. When Mbala left the reason he said was that offer was not good enough. What offer is referring to? These are not student athletes. They are commodities.
@@bolerosph you are assuming UAAP cares about the players. They are a commodity…the players and their families. The backers are protecting their investment. Until the players are not compensated, they essentially relinquished their rights.
If this process was implemented this year, the selection may have been as follows:
UST - Luis Pablo (from UP)
FEU - Noy Remogat (from UE)
UE - Jacob Cortez (from San Beda)
Adamson - Kean Baclaan (from NU)
Of course, I am assuming these particular players were transferring to get more playing time.
This mechanism prevents teams to employ financial incentives to obtain transferring players but benefits those players who truly just want to have the opportunity to show their talents.
The issue with regards to better financially supported teams is another topic; which I leave you guys to discuss in a future episode perhaps.
Love this proposal, Carl. Way to think outside the box! This may be a bit radical but this is what we mean when we say "there has to be better way"
If schools / coaches can choose who to line up, players should be given an opportunity to play. they deserve a great future, too. especially, a lot of them are, in reality, breadwinners. most of them are just finding ways to secure their future, too.
Agree imho players talaga ang tatamaan dito not basketball programs. Mabigat pa players who probably are not star players but those looking for an opportunity to be able to showcase their talents. There has to be a better way to regulate poaching. -Maui
I hope in your next episodes you can take up the following interesting topics:
And nice point about how this rule is a mere circumvention of the law.
😂😂😂
Pero ang tunay na makikinabang dito, NCAA. magta-transfer na lang mga players dun para lang makapag laro in their full potential without shedding their playing years.
Hahahahha
The proposed rule figure to create problems instead of solve one. For one, it will not discourage players from transferring from one school to another as they can just opt to transfer to the other league (ncaa) where rules are not as stringent. UAAP faces a "talent drain" in the long run. Think Robert Bolick, Renz Abando, Larry Muyang, etc.
Agree! Sam essentially echoed your sentiments. That talent drain will become a real thing
i heard this from Jason Kidd, "players just want to play and get paid." As long as may schools with these big backers, di titigil transfers. if you don't have money, wala ka talagang chance sa bidding war for the talented players. it's becoming a trend na rin for current student athletes to maximize the bag (as they should). if they don't find money in college, they might turn pro na lang.
Totoo naman. We've always been supportive of players getting the bag and what they're due. Alam mo yan, Apo haha
It's when the image, quality, and reputation of the league are affected that it becomes an issue. Ayaw naman natin maging PBA ang UAAP 🤣🙏 - Gab

Too late. Accept moneyed programs ldlsu and admu into the yuap, then expect money to flow in freely. Bring in more tycoons like tan (ue), sy (nu), gokongwei (up) and now ang (uste), then expect more money, to flow more freely lol
Proposal is supposed to cover ALL sports.
It will be better if the UAAP Board and teams will come into agreement to eradicate poaching by setting conditions for player transfers:
Could be " mahuli taya mentality and mindset na lang."
Could be each team or majority of the teams are doing it anyway.
-Maui
The lack of parity is wrong. But trying to right it with another wrong won't solve it. So cliche but so true in this case.
+100000 on this
Agree, they are not addressing the elephant in the room.
Hence this legal remedy na magulo pa sa quantum physics. Tama yung tanong: sa basketball lang ba ito?????

-Maui
Sana masali sa uaap yung water polo, golf and equestrian.
Definitely very punishing for a player if this pushes thru
Regarding your question, if all factors remain the same, yes that would be the case
Those school who has no much budget or sticking with the current rules losses out.
better to create new league for poachers up, dlsu and admu lol
Cannot blame you for wanting this rule. I know it's frustrating what the UAAP has become
honestly. it's Pingoy weight issues ruined his career scapegoat na lang yung rule na yun. he played in ateneo and played well in adamson he had a lot of chances to regain his career, hindi lahat i-blame sa residency.
-Maui
Props to Boleros for calling out the gorillas, elephants and crocodiles on the table, in sober sensible fashion. 🏀
Hehe thank you! Just calling it as we see it
Collegiate league kasi dapat ang UAAP basketball pero dahil profitable ito kaya naging parang pro n dahil pumasok n ung sponsorship st benefactors dahil dito may budget n sa piratahan or to entice players, nagkaka hardship dito ung ibang uaap member.agaist ako sa possible upcoming rules pero its better for fairness of the league.somehow they are doing something to stop yung piratahan within Uaap.
Makes sense naman. I've always been adamant to make transferring more lenient. It is a free choice for these students after all - Gab
I've also been brainstorming this. The downside of having school reps on the UAAP board is they kinda look out for their own interests 😂 - Gab
Will this pending rule affect players who transferred this year like Baclaan and remogat?
It shouldnt. Will probably affect future transfers. -Maui
The school politicians running the league continue to commercialize it and commoditize the student-athletes. The league is not about the interest of the schools or their sponsors or even the fans. The league is about the interest of the student-athletes.
Totally agree! The UAAP schools and board of trustees should think very hard about who they actually serve and the purpose of the UAAP itself
Sometimes the easiest way is not the right one. We went through this with the Jerie Pingoy rule already and it was banned by Congress, no less
much better trade system nlng. pag star player kukunin ng another school.
Tune in to Pinoy Liga’s upcoming tournament where 40 of the top collegiate teams square off in an elimination bracket. -Maui
But yeah, we'll try to workshop some suggestions
With regards to the US NCAA way, maybe we can follow their lead and have external auditors regulate and investigate the incentives players get. They have caught many under the table deals throughout the years by doing this
Alisin na yang residency para Malaya mga players mag laro sa gustong school

-Maui

Other schools should level up. As simple as that. Save for adamson (they did have akari sa sponsor, though brought in by franz, who's no longer with the school), all the other schools have their own share of very wealthy owners and/or alums

1. Playing Minutes (Alao)
2. School Issues (Padrigao)
3. Dream School (baclaan with kq😂)
4. Incentives ( remogat😂😂😂)
I think the most important parameter is playing Minutes.
Hahaha
A lot of suggestions like this are found in these comments. However, it could also be exploited by teams (like making sure to give minutes just prevent them from transferring).
@@bolerosph I understand yung views ng athletes kaya they transfer.lots of reason coaching systems, chances for more playing time, etc di p natin isama yung mga bigayan under the table.who knows.beside some of our players galing sa mahirap na family.as much a posible gusto nila kung saan mas malaki ang bigayan.plus this age rage from 17/18-23 hinahanap mo ang sarile mo at di pa buo ang Decision mo because your young or just being guided by your parents. Avoid nalang ng big univ to get players from fellow uaap .delikadesa nalang.kasi tinanim ng iba tapos iba makikinabang.masakit un.plus hindi naman ito liga lang ng 3 or 4 teams n sila sila nalang always sa top.as a uaap brother pairalin nalang ung hiya kasi way din ito para humina ang ibang team is to pirate star players nila kahit knowing naman na loaded ang team A,b and C nila plus the new recruits from HS and abroad.sa players naman if gusto mo malaking bigayan mag pro ka nalang agad mag MPBL ka na agad kesa wala kang loyalty sa team mo.its sad lang kasi talamak n talaga.anjan ang ncaa college at hs na pwede silang mamakyaw ng players, fil foreigners at sa ibang hs.ung respeto sa fellow uaap wala na kaya may mga rules n ganto at nagsusulputan
There should be no one year sit out. They should play at once.
A lot of suggestions of this are coming around. Appreciate your thoughts!
maybe they can base it on playing minutes?
-Maui
Sadly uaap is also politics amp
Its slowly becoming like PBA na
That what we are afraid of. Hopefully they make the right decision so we dont move in that direction. I understand why they are exploring this option because League parity should be a priority. Hopefully they find a better way to address this. I dont think this is the right solution.-Maui
parity ba? gawa sila ng draft for incoming college students haha. tapos yung low performing schools gets first pick hahahaha
Hahahaha parang pro league lang talaga
Nuyan pba haha
I do hope the UAAP finds a way to solve their parity problem without having to punish players for free choice
We, the Boleros, love it when each team is competitive and games are always close
We feel you.
But if player B plays more than that, then this rule can affect (1 year sit out & a two year eligibility exhausted)
But let's say a player didn't play at all (Team B). I think they should allowed to play right away in other UAAP school or maybe just a year of residency..
Nonetheless, the UAAP should reconsider as well those players who just got benched throughout their uaap careers. Otherwise, as I said, there are other leagues other than UAAP where they can showcase their talents.
It's a wonder why the tan family is no longer prioritizing the school's basketball team
Barya lang sa kanila ang ginagastos ng ibang schools
Rey Remogat rule...hahaha
And the sad part is that it won't affect Remogat at all if this rule pushes thru
Which is why we said in the podcast that the UAAP is asking the wrong questions
@@bolerosph you are assuming UAAP cares about the players. They are a commodity…the players and their families. The backers are protecting their investment. Until the players are not compensated, they essentially relinquished their rights.
Which is the wrong way to treat people. Whether you think we're delusional or not, we will call out when we see something wrong
Even giving out 'family packages' as early as GS, as one commenter had previously alleged
