    I've always loved transparent minis but I never knew how to keep it because of the opaque paints. Happy you gave me the idea to use ink instead! I've already bought the gelatinous cube mini and it's on the way! Great work with the sea foam on the water elemental. 👍

      Awesome! Thank you for saying so and I am happy to help! :D
      FYI! I think that contrast paints might also do a decent job on transparent parts! :)

    I really dig the use of the snow effect. So far its been a go to for me when I feel I need some sweet textures. You nailed another one my friend! Great paint and way to fight the grey war.... or clear.

    Man that came out awesome. One of these times i'm gonna have to paint up a transparent miniature. using the water texture and the snow for the white water is a great tip!

    • @DevsDice
      @DevsDice  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! Yeah they are a peticular challenge. That being said, I dont always like the transparent nature. Sometimes I feel like it doesn’t fit the context. Like the Fire Elemental, its fine doing it transparent but the yellow will be quite muted. :/

    I know this is an old video, I only recently discovered this channel. Your videos are so incredibly helpful in learning how to paint! I see you sometimes take requests and I came to the elemental videos to get ideas on how to paint another transparent monster: the allip. I have searched and searched for painting videos and tips and have discovered this appears to be a tragically underappreciated monster. It's literally a combat encounter that comes built in with plot hooks and it's spooky to boot! It's quickly become a favorite of mine and I'd love to see such an awesome monster get the love it deserves. Keep up the incredible work!

    • @DevsDice
      @DevsDice  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I have that one but I would recommend using some contrast paint or smokey ink from Vallejo if you want to retain some of the transparent properties! 👍😊

    I love looking at the finished mini, it's sort of like those pictures that look like two things at once. Sometimes the foam effect stuff actually looks like foam and it looks like a really realistic wave. Sometimes it looks like a plastic miniature covered in weird white goop.

    I think the paint was great, not crazy about the snow stuff. I think if you plan to use that, it has to be put on with intention and shaped and sculpted just right to get the correct look. It's a bit haphazard when I think it should have been put on it kind of sweeping shapes that would have followed the lines of the model.

    What approach would you try if you have regular brushes instead of an airbrush?

    • @DevsDice
      @DevsDice  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well first off I would think long and hard if I wanted to maintain the transparent nature of the sculpt. If not, then paint it like any other miniature. I would most likely wet blend a gradient from dark blue from the bottom to light blue in the top and then highlight some details.
      Now if I wanted to maintain the transparency and I didn't have an airbrush then I would most likely try to either apply a dry brush of inks or contrast paints to give hints of blue. If that didn't do it then I guess I would try inks/contrast paints and just try to get as smooth cover as possible.
      Does this answer your question Peter?
