Justin is the G.O.A.T. I noticed he doesn't talk as much as Sal and Adam, but his adlibs, sidebars, and stories are hysterical! Plus he gives great powerful advice! Keep at it Justin I live for those moments! Doug, Sal, Adam I admire you guys as well!

I actually think that Justin is the most knowledgeable out of the three and he also has more of a sports/practical background.
I dig the confidence he has to never be attention seeking and just hang back to add when necessary. It's just like what a lion does. He lays still and will pounce only when needed.

This episode's q & a section was sooooo instructive, especially the part with substituting one bad habit with another as a means of coping and the caller who described issues on a cut and then - boom, the explanation blew me away! This also gave me idea for a show - how about doing a troubleshooting episode on cutting? I'm 💯 not alone in attempting to cut and being discouraged over and over because of not knowing what went wrong this time or that time and so on. So how about you enlist a bunch of symptoms and then offer a possible cause and remedy for each of them? Thx so much for the knowledge you share with the community.

Spot on with the sodium discussion! Several years ago, I was undertaking strenuous workouts, eating clean and having the same issues to the point that I thought I had a heart condition! Had EKG’s, cardiology appts, the works… and I simply needed to increase my sodium. My cardiologist actually said “eat more potato chips” 🤯🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
I learned a very expensive lesson back then and Sal just saved that guy a ton of frustration and money lol
Anytime I start to feel like crap when I’m doing “all the right things” I start looking at my electrolytes.

    • @ricksgiggle8852
      @ricksgiggle8852 ปีที่แล้ว

What another fantastic episode. That 3rd question kinda hit home. I had a drinking problem for a couple years and was going to a dark place. I cleaned up my act quite a bit, and though I still do drink alcohol, it's nowhere NEAR as much and often. I'm in better control. (Oh, by the way, Powerlift could also be a good complement to a calisthenics program 😝)

I typically keep the same movements for the first 10 weeks for the volume portion of my program ( unless I hate the movement then 5 weeks) Then I typically change it for the metabolite portion and then again for the next 5 weeks (this is a heavy / resensitization portion). It keeps my workouts fresh and new so I’m not getting bored

Val from Hawaii/Colorado was a super cool caller. Great energy, honesty, sense of humor and chemistry with you guys. And of course, great episode as always. I myself quit smoking weed just over 2.5 years ago for many of the same reasons she shared concerning alcohol. I know it's great for many reasons but just the type of person I am I developed a bad relationship with it the preceding 15 years. I basically replaced it with exercise and mobility focus after I lost the initial weight I wanted to lose, but holy shit how I long for it to this day.

A great way to "switch" is with tiny changes. Like using DB's instead of barbells for 4-6 weeks. Or slight modifications like switching between pullups and chinups. Or more single leg work (lunges/BulgSS) for 4-6 weeks instead of back squats.
That way you can always be relatively adjacent to similar workouts and mastering the skills. But the slight modifications and phasing rep ranges keeps you from getting stagnant.

Sal is correct. I came from a broken family. In the divorce it was a sharing of us kids. I lost respect and relationship with both parents. The worst part was both my mom and dad saying bad things about each other to me. It was hard to take. Later in life I had to tell my mom and dad if you say another bad think about the other I will never talk to you again. Lucky both stoped and later the relationship got better. But what a sad thing to have a son to discipline the parents.

My carbs consist mostly of potatoes, pasta, and oats. Am I screwed by not getting enough carbs to be in a surplus to build muscle even if I easily hit my protein macros? As far as getting more salt in, an easy and fast way is to put a pinch of salt on your tongue and then just wash it down with some water. Four pinches for me gets up to about a teaspoon. Just look up how much volume of salt equals a gram and you’ll know how much you’re getting.

She now regrets that, because since I have a son of my own, and my father passed away six years ago, I don’t have my own pops to go to for advice. Not only does it damage the relationship with both parents, but it can take decades for the true damage to show itself. And it takes even longer to come back from it.

I divorced my first husband because he was abusive, but I filed it as "irreconcilable differences" so the statistics may not be completely accurate on whether there was any type of abuse or not.

@@ThePaigewieting thank you ♡that was over ten years ago. As horrible as it was, it taught me a lot about myself. I was able to work through some things that I needed to and grow a ton from that experience. I am now married to an absolutely amazing man who is my best friend and takes great care of me!

I hoped to listen to a podcast about workout routine and the change of the routine. Instead I found a podcast telling us how those 80% of the woment that are 'not happy' file for divorce.
Well, I'm one of those 80% that filed for divorce, not being happy because my ex-husband didn't feel like spending time together and making plans, but was busy meeting up with other women.
It is easy to judge and I think that all those studies are biased. It depends on so many other factors. Such a study cannot be replicated with identical results.
While a study about workout regime and proper healthy diet, will alwasy have identical results no matter what.

I guarantee that if you took 2 people and had 1 stick to the big 4 and not deviate much and the other person switched things up all the time the lifter who sticks to the big 4 for a lifetime will have a better physique and have more longevity

Sorry, but the marriage discussion was eye-rolling. Divorce rates are falling because people aren't marrying to marry but are marrying people they actually want to marry. College-educated women divorce LESS not more. Where did Doug get his info? It is even on the CDC, yes the CDC tracks divorce & marriage real-time stats. Less-educated women divorce more than college-educated women. Those stats are wrong.
Also, a long marriage is in no way an indicator of a good marriage. Arranged marriages are often based on cultures where is extremely frowned upon to divorce. Plenty of men & women stay unhappy most of their lives because they have unhappy marriages. Religious people in particular will stay married no matter what but are deep down miserable. They stay in their misery year after year. I grew up seeing this and still see this. Hell no to that life.
Also pretty ironic that when married people have to justify staying married. Always trying to convince others and themselves to stay married.

Rounded upper back isn't a huge deal when deadlifting. The lower back is where you really wanna make sure you got proper control and NOT rounding that out.
That is where most injuries occur.
