Howard to me, is the best ever. He writes in a way, that spills out in my mind. So easy to visualize what he writes. He is imagination on steriods.Thank you Mr Warlock

It’s as I’ve always told people.
If Tolkien is the father of fantasy.
Than Howard is the Grandfather. 🗡🍻🐉

Robertson Dean lends so much to this already great story! I only wish Howard had written more Bran Mac Morn tales.

The old savage sword of conan mag, printed this story back in the late 70s, drawn by Barry Smith and Tim Conrad.

One of the best sword and sorcery stories ever. So obsessed with vengeance he literally makes love to evil in order to obtain it. When he heard her talking to the worms he shuddered, like the guy that slept with the fat chick when he was drunk. Amazing, and the narrator was also amazing.

Howard's written work easily adapts to oral interpretation, a reflection of both his masterful story-telling & the tradition of oral Texas tall-tales that the author grew up listening to. This recording is a wonderful example of REH done right THX for the great post!!

I think it’s partly due to his heavy use of alliteration. Once you notice it you start to hear it everywhere.

REH was the Prose Poet. The Mirrors of Tuzun Thune earned him that nickname.

I read the Bran Books years ago and am enjoying this except for "Bran" being pronounced "Bron" . I know only a few words in Gaelic, mostly Scots, but it seems to me like it should very much be "Bran" as in "Raisin Bran", am I wrong?.

Really glad I stumbled across your channel, Nemesis. You have some great content. Also, if I recall correctly, the Nemesis Warlock was a character from the A.B.C Warriors story featured in the old 2000 AD comics I read as kid. Shit that makes me old ;)
Slaine the Barbarian, Rogue Trooper and Judge Dredd also ran in those comics.

Its a shame that Howard never wrote more sword & sanity yarns along these lines. The creepy, Mythos-haunted Roman Britain is a compelling setting. The idea of a barbarian king feuding desperately against the Roman Empire in a guerrilla war is a badass setup. There are a couple other Bran Mak Morn stories floating around, but they never come close to Worms of the Earth. Its a totally different mood from Conan, in a good way. Its so niche, i find it hard to find anything to fill that void.
