I love Photek's production work, because it isn't cluttered and he allows things to breathe and the drums to take precedent. It's so wonderful how everything has its own spot in the mix at the precise moment when needed.
What is the most hip thing, that the drums are really doable to play! everything is so natural, ofcourse some technique needed but nothing is too much, super doable and after all super tasty and melodical approach on drums.
I was 23 when this came out... i'm now 45. My kids just look at me weird when I play this in the car (and of course with two 10" speakers in the trunk).
No disrespect intended. But your kids need educating. I had to educate my kids in the fine arts of Photek and d&b..they love it now because of there master 😂
I wanted to argue that this track was far ahead of its time, but in reality it's timeless and boundaryless. Betting it will sound as fresh in 2298. Forever grateful for the music ❤️
Not gonna lie, I had this track on an endless loop when I first bought the CD back in 1999. I actually found it relaxing, it helped me fall asleep. Truly a masterpiece...
SAME THING, same damn year too! I'd never heard of jungle but this was the first CD i bought... at the Bahrain airport. the drums reminded me of rain. big up fellow human :)
Wow, now this takes me back... so good. Back in the day when DNB/jungle was so full of promise. I felt its emergence and the invention of the breakbeat was on par with that of jazz. Listening to this again raises the hairs on my arms.
This is still the future of dnb. Producers like myself will make this sound possible once again, and all shall know this sound is what's up, what's been up, and will always be on top.

Hip hop had a good run through the 90s and early 00s but as of late most of it is kinda embarrassing comparatively imo, still some great rappers out there but yeah. Such is the way with art; it manifests, breaks ground and is then commercialised for profit, and in doing so its essence, earnest and character - that is to say its soul - is essentially destroyed. Standouts remain but so often is the case that a kind of taint persists that's quite hard to separate from the general image of the genre of origin.
