Fun fact, Vlad the drummer isnt a "drummer". Hes a classically trained pianist and guitarist. The last band he was in needed a drummer so he used his knowledge of music and taught himself how to play drums to fill the spot

@@PrymalChaos Hes also the only "trained" one in the group. Tatiana has had some vocal coaching along the way but basically developed her own way of singing that was healthy to her. Eugene the bassist took 1 lesson, then watched videos of bassists he looked up to and taught himself. Pretty sure Roman the guitarist is self taught as well. That's just what happens when you've played 200+ shows a year for the last 10 years, everyone kind of melds as one symphonic machine.

i've been a huge fan of this band for 3+ years now, and to this very second, the fact that every member essentially is self taught/practiced and creates all this music naturally with only their knowledge and passion blows my fucking mind with every thought and listen... Jinjer will always be a huge inspiration to me for that reason
I did not know that they're mostly self taught, but that really helps explain their unique style. In the video you commented on the drums not following a standard kick-snare pattern, which is what you learn in drum lessons. If you aren't told to use a standard style you have a clean slate to develop your own. Seems like they all did that.
This song is kind of a musical gem. Most people don't notice that it doesn't have a chorus, it's all verses and none of them is repeated again in the song. However, after hearing it many times you start noticing that each part has it's own hook. Very clever song writing from Vlad and Roman. : )

Welcome to Jinjer. Tatiana is a vocal goddess and one of the best front women in the business. You are right about the band; the drummer had training but the others have put in their 10,000 hours. This song is a banger. Love Jinjer. Pisces was their viral sensation but it isnt even there best song. I Speak Astronomy is a personal favorite. Teacher, Teacher goes hard. There is a one-take of her doing Judgement & Punishment which lets you get a good look at her body and throat doing the vocals. Lots of great songs

Ok, dude, I am thoroughly impressed by your views and interpretations of this song. When you realised that the song was descending into madness and chaos, you were actually very spot on. To understand how spot-on you are, go look the lyrics up and listen to the song again while running through the lyrics.

On of my favorite songs by Jinjer is On The Top and the video is phenomenal! I love how groovy it is. Perennial live at Wacken is a great display of all of their talents.

on the top is really underrated, it doens't get too many reactions but it's in my top3 jinjer songs along with perennial and teacher teacher. i'm glad i find someone else that enjoy that song so much to suggests it.

Fine reaction. Old school Jinjer, around 10 years ago, is also fun to watch and listen to.The drummer is indeed a bit of a funky jazzcat. He made this band more interesting than it already was. Love them a lot.
French band Gojira is on top of the game too with great poly rhythms and riffs. It's completely different but absolutely worthwhile to try and maybe combine the two sometime in 2022. It wil make the spreading easier;-) Have a good new year.

I feel like that song is unique in the way sue had such a diva moment without being cheesy and it is SO GOOD. They played it at the show I went to in November and it was amazing. All of it was.

Exactly! Dude, they have an actual jazz song. "Beggar's Dance." And the breakdown in "Home Back" is literally a bossa nova section lodged right in the middle of a metal song! I call their genre jazzcore.

@@PrymalChaos Beggar's Dance is sort of an epilogue track on their album King of Everything. Lyrics are snippets of lyrics from the other songs on the album. I's a short one and doesn't have video. If you listen to Beggar's Dance you could also listen to Prologue, the intro-track to the same album. It follows the same principle, but with different music.

I have seen your reaction vids of JinJer a few times. I just 'subbed'. Your reactions to JinJer are far better than most. You are knowledgeable and have a clue what you are talking about when you see vids for the first time. So many people have NO clue when they watch JinJer videos...KUDOS to you.

This is the first video from your channel I've seen. The best thing about jinjer is the fact that the more you listen the more you tend to hear, and it just makes you appreciate it even more. A lot of metal bands do that for me though, I suppose it all depends on what you're in to in the first place. I'm 41 now and I've been a metalhead as long as I can recall (lucky to come up in the 80s and have young parents who always had a plethora of tunes rocking the house). I'm going to have to peruse your channel and see if there are some reactions to Gojira. As far as drums are concerned Mario Duplantier (Gojira) and Vlad from Jinjer are the best in metal at the moment. This is of course just one middle class American housewife's opinion but I'm continually blown away by the level of talent and skill from those 2.
I have one Gojira song, but I have to keep reminding myself to go back and revisit them because I don't think I really got an accurate sense of who they are.

@@PrymalChaos it might takea couple songs, I wasn't on board initially (same in the case of Jinjer). Then I finally took the time to really listen and I'm disappointed I missed a live opportunity due to my past quick skip reactions. Gojira can be a lot to process at once, maybe try something like Silvera or Grind before you jump over to a like The Art of Dying.
Another band that I hear Jinjer being influenced by is Opeth. Anything off the Blackwater Park album is a nice starting point.

Another suggestion is the Agonist. The new singer also does cean/harsh vocals.
Their old singer Alyssa did both as well when with them before she joined Arch Enemy where she only growls. Which is sad they aren't taking advantage of her range.

I don't know your background, but I sense that you are an accomplished musician that knows arrangements and composition as well as you know the back of your hand. I truly enjoy watching a reactor that gets down into the specifics and knows what to point out and how to explain it.
Imo, you were definitely right on track about how the arrangement flowed. The lyrics are about someone's heavy thoughts and how the thoughts affect him, and the music reflects the lyrics perfectly.
Through the entire song, we can see chaos ensuing, with cracks in the ceiling, objects floating and flying about. These things represent the man's mind being overloaded and losing control.
I take it that the "Vortex", once we see outside the window, is symbolic of the man's mind and how it takes everything in at a rapid pace and very chaotically. Then at the end we enter his "mind" and witness his thoughts as a whirling monster that is out of control.
A very visual representation of how a psychopath might be created.
Just my take on the song and video representation. Probably way off.

The beautiful thing about music videos is that they often allow us re-evaluate our impression of the song in a personal way. They often use esoteric imagery rather than a strict narrative, and what's great about that is, 10 different people will have 10 different experiences.
This clip is a perfect representation of that. You can interpret it a bunch of different ways, but regardless it will colour your impression of the song. Typically that serves to strengthen the bond you have with the music. The importance of music videos is often really understated.

This is from their new album Wallflowers, which is in it's entirety a truly masterpiece of very experienced musicians. And yes, Haken is a must to react to! They have so many great songs, it is difficult to recommend. Maybe 'Darkest light' or 'The Architect', or weird 'The Cocroach King'...

The only member of the band that was formally trained was the drummer Vlad, who was trained as a pianist. Ukraine is a hard place to make it as a musician so only the best of the best rose to the top. There is no predictable formula to Jinjer songs. Pisces is one of their simplest songs in a lot of ways. They'll always keep you guessing. :) Their genre is hard to pin down and even their interview answers vary depending on how they feel like answering questions on any given day. I think progressive metal is the most common definition among fans. You should definitely check out their concert videos as well. Perennial live at Wacken is a common followup to see what they do on stage. On The Top live in Kiev has a very dynamic video and is a great song. Who Is Gonna Be The One is a basic band on stage video, but has a great performance and the composition and musicianship are awesome, especially the dueling guitar and bass. Subbed. Cheers!

@@PrymalChaos among the hardcore fans, their biographies are pretty compelling too. All of them except Vlad grew up in a mining and industrial region of Ukraine that was heavily impacted economically by the breakup of the Soviet Union. Then in 2014 as they started to get recognition in neighboring nations, a war broke out in that region forcing them to move west to be able to continue touring, leaving behind everyone and everything including their fans in the area. With bridges burned, they had nothing left but the band and each other and their rage and the rest is history.
Since your listeming to the new album you should check out wallflower. Slower pace but beautiful.

You should see them live in person. It defies reason how they can be so good. There probably aren't 5 bands that I would drive from Tulsa to Dallas to see, especially with C19 going on. I am so glad I did to see them though. My brother and I had a blast, and were safe and healthy after.

I love their energy, how tight they are, how down to earth they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and beautiful growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics!
The first time I heard Pisces in 2020 I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wakeup alarm for the past year or so and I still love it more every time I hear it).

Sorry for the very long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs!
My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and "that was more unexpected than my first child" 🤣
I love the story of Tatiana getting interested in learning to growl. In her own words, "I was inspired by Otep (Shamaya). When I was 15, my friend showed me a record of House of Secrets. I was like, ‘That dude - his voice is so powerful. And he said, ‘Oh come on Tatiana, that’s actually a woman!’ I was like, ‘What?’ She blew my mind. That was the time, the moment when I realized I wanted to shock people just like her. I just had the feeling or the intuition, like an extra sense that this is what I’m made to do.”
The four current members have essentially no musical training except for Vlad the drummer who studied classical piano. They've been a tour heavy band, on the road almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020, hard work that has made them fantastic live and they make it look effortless. For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the beautiful sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the newest album Wallflowers, first four videos are out for Vortex (as you saw here), Mediator (I'll watch your reaction to that next), Wallflower and Disclosure! Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs.
The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine in 2009 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see former Jinjer guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, on guitar in older Jinjer videos, and acting as an interrogator in their latest video, Disclosure!
One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines her beautiful growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander, Dip A Sail and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that might do well together in one reaction).
I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (I see you reacted to the fantastic live at Wacken performance, but the official video is also a must-see), Teacher Teacher (official), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video). Note that because Jinjer has so many great official videos and so many astounding live performance videos, no Jinjer fan will ever mind if you react to a second video for a Jinjer song you've already heard, so whichever songs you choose, whatever pace you like: hope you'll keep trying more Jinjer and enjoy! ❤🖤🤘

As for your comment regarding the band being trained musicians, yes. For sure Vlad, the drummer is. He is classically and jazzed trained. He has a video on YT of him playing a classical piano piece. Simply beautiful.

It's something completely different and about as far from metal as you can get but you should check out the young Norwegian singer, songwriter, producer Aurora. She's totally unique and a huge metal fan. Start with her video Running With The Wolves and then check out two songs she did at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert, Runaway and Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1). She taught herself how to play piano at the age of 6 and started writing lyrics when she learned English at the age of 9.
I LOVE Aurora! She is a phenomenon, much like Björk before her! That said I might do a reaction at some point to something of hers I haven't seen.

He's one of those easily-bored super-high-IQ kinda dudes, so to keep himself interested he finds ways to have you wondering where the 1 has gone, or double-guessing whether that chorus is *really* the simple 4/4 it appears to be from what the other band members are doing (check out "Teacher Teacher" for that one).... so he can be deeply 'trickster', but never chaotic. #HighIQcontrolFreak ;)
There is so much Mastodon in Jinjer it hurts. That's not a criticism.
I personally like outlander by Jinjer it´s from a bit back but i think it´s one of the best... And i think you her whats the core is in it..

Well, you’ve mentioned you listened to Jinjer, so I thought you were quite familiar with them, otherwise I’d have recommended them already. They don’t fall into specific subgenre. There’s definitely some progressive elements in Jinjer. Given you mentioned Haken, I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend Leprous. They’re prog icons. Both Jinjer and Leprous (and Lorna Shore) are in my top 10 current bands. It’s hard to suggest a Leprous song though since you said you prefer reacting to music videos. “Nighttime Disguise” is phenomenal, but the video is a compilation of footage from recording. If you’re open to a drum playthrough, their drummer Baard performing “The Sky is Red” (which is my favorite song of theirs) is absolute perfection.
Oh it doesn't have to be music video.. a studio video or even a lyric video are fine.
I prefer music videos because it tells more of a story, while usually introducing the band members to a degree. It also usually gives me something extra to react to.
I did a BMTH lyric video (it's currently being disputed as it was taken down. Should be up in a few days) and it was fine. Particularly since I've seen the band in other videos.
Live performances are also great provided they're top performances i.e Ghost Love Score - Fleur Jansen at Wacken.

I started this channel to force myself to start listening to music with more extreme vocals. So far so good!
Great to see some honesty in a reaction video. "Reacting" to a worldwide viral video that is several years old with a gazillion views and trying to pretend you have never heard it is a bit lame. Glad you held out🤙
That really bothers me too. That's why I created two playlists. One for HONEST reactions and one for Reviews. The reviews are songs I already know and that I want to provide personal insight on. I don't know why anyone pretends it's always obvious and their 'reactions' are often way too over the top.
Each to their own I guess.
@@PrymalChaos Indeed. To believe that someone hasn't heard "Sound of Silence" after 6 years is a little unbelievable. There are enough people with qualified opinions putting out content who can offer insight into musicality of songs. However sticking to a few well known tracks and going down paths already trodden by others simply for likes etc, does, I believe, do a disservice to bands with larger back catalogues than the odd viral hit.
Its awesome to see you taking more of a risk with other tracks. Definitely follow from the boy 🙏.

Like you mention the huge difference between spiritbox and Jinjer. Just because they both can scream vey well, doesn't make them alike I my world.
Nah. Lots of bands are easy to lump together in broad strokes, but from my limited perspective, having only just discovered both bands, if you took all of their differences, you could just about squeeze them into the Grand canyon.

Interesting thing: vortex is the song that i always suggest to start with jinjer. why not pisces? because vortex has the same element of surprise since in the first minute or so tatiana doesn't scream/growl, but it is way more complex than pisces and therefore feels less "gimmickly" to me. pisces is more of a "jinjer demo" song, i still like it a lot but if someone would call that "a bit flat" it wouldn't be so wrong...vortex does the same job in makes you know what jinjer are about but is not "entry level" like pisces imho. pisces is the song i would suggest to someone who listen to pop only, vortex the one i would sugget to a metalhead that just happen to not know jinjer.
with that being said, if you literally never heard of anything by jinjer besides pisces and vortex, the next song you have to react to, in this order, are:
- perennial (live at wacken)
- judgment and punishment (one take)
- teacher, teacher
- who is gonna be the one (live)
- on the top (live in kiev) - this one is not usually suggested but its personally in my top3 jinjer songs ever
- i speak astronomy
those are all really masterpieces, next ones imho are just "really really really good songs" but not something i would suggest to react...unless you will become obsessed with jinjer like many of us became so i mention those songs anyway :) :

Nope, no matter how much I listen to them... They don’t work for me. Too ”busy” for my ears. I can appreciate the obvious talent and musicality, but it’s not for me. And screaming growls... no. I can appreciate the growls when used like in ”Yours is an empty hope”(Nightwish), where its more like a compliment to the vocals.
Fair call. It's not to everyone's tastes. Nor should it be.
