You were spot on about the guys having learned through grinding. Once the proxy war between pro-russian separatists (very musch supported by Russia) and Ukraine in the eastern Donbass region started (where they lived) they had to choose whether to stay or go. They chose to go to the far west of the country (Lviv) and try and support themselves through performing. This was a long and hard road, they started out playing every venue they could playing for 20 people in little towns etc. barely being able to buy food. They grinded and grinded for 10 years until they first managed to get signed by Napalm Records on the basis of their video for " Sit, Stay Roll over" (which is one of their heaviest fastest songs) which gave them access to slightly better venues, they then re-recorded " Pisces" in a live session, basically to showcase their (then) new drummer Vlad, and as you well know that video went completely viral and opened a lot of doors for them, it became the stepping stone they needed to get truly widely seen and succesful (obviously also, because their music outside of " Pisces was damn good). throughout that time they toured nearly non-stop (think 260+ days of the year, pretty much every year) which is probably why the band is so tight live. They absolutely worked their collective arses off to get to where they are now and, imo are only getting better with each new album.
true, i was on one of their such 30 people small venues back in 2015, at that time i did not know that they struggled so much back then, what a shame, i would gladly help them, if i knew.
Back in November I got to meet Jinjer before their Milwaukee concert. One of the most humble groups I've met. I told Tati that I hoped they continue to have the success they deserve after grinding for years. She appreciated that comment. Then I told Eugene that I used to be a bass player and he took issue with that asking me why I don't play anymore. He encouraged me to get back to playing and make time to do so. They are just as you see them live as in their live videos. They are always on point. That concert was a great concert and my first time seeing them live.
So, if you see interviews with Jinjer. You would start to understand were they are coming from. The manager and willing to speak for the group is Eugene the bassist. He is the kind of guy that is like, I play the bass, I don't really need to learn to play Guitar. I like the bass. His bass is run through a guitar helix 6 on the guitar channel. Roman their lead guitarist is somewhat shy and if you watch even the Russian interviews, he sort of just answers the questions somewhat flatly. But, if you ask him to play something, he can sit there playing on the guitar for a hour straight. Going over random stuff and innovating on the spot. During a concert he has a backing track playing the rhythm parts because, he doesn't have a 5th person playing the rhythm parts. He also runs through a helix 6. As had been said Vlad is the trained musician. He is very good at adapting and adjusting to the band. It should be noted that the Vlad, Roman and Eugene write all the music portions of the songs, put everything together and hand the music to Tatiyana. Tatiyana is an English major, who found she loved to sing at parties and for bands. She gets the music and writes lyrics to the songs after the fact. She is self taught.
Just a minute into your comments, and I’m impressed! I’ve seen a hundred people comment on Jinjer performances, but you brought new perspectives, particularly with your angle that they’re a uni band who didn’t do the uni prog thing. Love it! I’m a fan.
Awesome job. You're the 2nd reactor I've come across who can articulate my fascination with Jinjer. And to be truthful, Jinjer is the reason I even paid attention to TH-cam reactors at all. And their latest album has put some people off as it is harder, sweeter, and more chaotic than their older material. Hope you will also like it. Oh, also saw them live on their just ended NA tour, and seriously, they were Better live 🤐
I'm starting to believe it. I REALLY wish I was at this show. 😆 Thank you for the amazing comment. Sometimes when reacting to a band like this I feel so dumb because I struggle to find the right way to express what I'm hearing and feeling. I hope in time that I can improve my elocution and live up to great comments like these.
Glad you are enjoying Jinjer! Also cool to see you growing. You are new to the scene but already one of the best reaction channels out there. I watch a lot of reactions for fun, but there are only a few channels I keep coming back to. You can only get better from here! Here are 3 reactions I would love to see. Jinjer - I Speak Astronomy Gojira - Heaviest Matter of the Universe Maximum the Hormone - Yoshu Fukushu
Thank you so much for that amazing compliment. I only hope that I can live up to it! 🤘 All three of those are distinct possibilities in the near future. I am familiar with Maximum the hormone but only a song or two. Definitely not that one.
@@PrymalChaos Honestly you deserve it. I think you have the potential to be one of the bigger reaction channels out there with your approach and passion for the music. Just gotta hope the algorithm gods shine on you and give you a boost!
Cheers from Massachusetts, home of the "world famous" Berklee College of Music! I thought that reference was appropriate with your music school comment. 😁 I almost went to college there, but I talked my self out of it and went into a more "stable" medical career....which I've regretted every day! I just discovered your channel and I love your reaction/review of the song. I discovered Jinjer and the similar female-fronted metalcore band Spiritbox about 3-04 months ago and I've become slightly obsessed with both of them due to their fantastic songwriting and musicianship and the incredible vocals of Tatiana from Jinjer and Courtney from Spiritbox. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks Neal! I think we all make choices in life that we can end up regretting, I wish I spent less time wasting time and more time focusing on practicing not only my playing but also music theory. I have picked up a lot along the way but it’s no comparison to putting in the effort in a meaningful way up front. We live and learn I guess. Also right now is the best time to start making up for it. 😀👍👍
🤘🤘🤘🔥 Omg her Growls tho! I still am in awe over how she can go back and forth from her gorgeous sweet vocals to full on growls effortlessly! I love those dissonant chords and those unique drum rythyms! This performance was my first introduction to Jinjer and its still a favorite!
I was extremely lucky to get a ticket to their show in Kiev long after it was sold out. They are exceptional live. Absolutely mind blowing. You should thoroughly examine their tour schedule and go to concert. At any cost, literally. It's worth it.
I´ve been so lucky to see them play live 4 times and get to know them on a personal level as well. Every single time I´m blown away at their shows and they´re just wonderful amazing people. They´ve gone through a lot, breaking their way out of the war torn Donetsk in Ukraine and worked their assess off since 2009 to get where they are now. So they´re truly a family with a strong bond between them and you can truly tell 🖤
@@PrymalChaos You know they´re starting a tour in march with Slipknot? They will also be doing headline shows on that tour. You really should check it out! ;)
Perfectly observed and assessed. The level of skill and talent is at the highest level but enveloped in humility instead of priviliged, self-centred righteousness. Been a fan of this band as musicians as well as humans for over three years now and actively avoided the mass-reactions of sensationalism mainly brought on by Pisces, but so glad to find real insightful reactors like you. Instant subscribing🙏
Another great reaction my friend. Funny how you mentioned how they brought the "energy" on stage even though they were not a headliner band and were playing in the morning. I saw an interview where Tati said that when they perform, they will always give it 110% no matter how many people are there. She said that they played in front of 10 people or less when they were just starting, and they gave it thier all because they were so appreciative of the people who came to see them. I'm going to suggest Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev/Kyiv as a future Jinjer reaction, that performance is epic, and Tati's growls are well, terrifying LOL 😄😄😄 but so amazing at the same time. Keep up the great reactions, and as always, stay Metal. 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶
@@PrymalChaos The best tribute to the energy they can bring, for me, was the live social distancing concert they did last year for... Metalfest, I think? I dunno, one of those festivals. It was truly bizarre seeing them perform to... nobody. Just cameras. Even more bizarre when they finished a song to the sound of literal crickets, rather than a roaring crowd. I wouldn't say they brought 100% of the energy... you could definitely feel the absence of the feedback of energy from the band to the crowd and back to the band... but they brought 90% of it. Pretty close to 100% during the music, but the crowd interaction from Tati between songs was pretty cringey and awkward to be honest. Still, that they could bring it as hard as they did in such a bizarre circumstance is a real testament to their professionalism. I've heard guys like Tank the Tech talk about that... about how the really great bands can bring just as much passion playing for 20 people, half of whom are at the bar wishing they'd shut up, as playing for 10,000 at a festival. I think it was on his reaction to Who Is Gonna Be The One, which he theorized was one of the biggest crowds they'd had to that point.
The first time I saw them was a 400 capacity venue called Brick By Brick in San Diego. Then at a venue called El Corazon in Seattle that is bigger but still only 800 capacity. Someone on YT did a review of a show at a US venue on the east coast in 2019 that was 150 and they said there was a full-crowd wall of death.
Your comments are on point. I saw them in a bar in Calgary in 2019 they blew the doors off the place Been a fan since 2015. Tatiana is amazing, the band is tight AF.
11:50 oh trust me: you probably will be in the audience during their next tour in 2022😋 just like everyone of us. I've had the chance to see them at the end of september this year, they did not disapoint. And they are able to put on a great show night after night for months, this is impressive 🤯 If you like Perennial, you might want to check out the official music video, it is very nice. (probably not worth doing a reaction though) Also check out Who Is Gonna Be The One (live) for even deeper growls and energetic Tati dancing 💃🏻
What show did you catch? I went to Frisco and Sacramento and as a long time fan I feel like they fell a bit flat. No energy, no crowd work, her and Eugene seemed to have a lot of tension on stage. She said they forced her to come out to do the encore.
I was there at Wacken, and this last song of the set did shine. Back in 2019, the stir around Jinjer started to grow up, and they deserve it so much. Outstanding musicians, and very nice review - kudos 👍🏻😀.
They always developed their music gave it to Tatiana and she would do the lyrics in Russian then translate to English and walla it works pretty amazing.Pit of Consciousness live Kiev is in Ukraine and a great performance.Subscribed like your insights and reactions.Eugene is special on bass and Roman with his riffs without any so called solos is totally underrated,He is outstanding.Who is gonna be the one live Napalm records is amazing you need it
you are absolutely right, the musicians are also humble when it comes to music, they see themselves as a band and not as 4 soloists in a band, that's the magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! warm greetings. maybe next: JINJER - Home Back (Official Video)
Yes! The bass!! It’s so intricate, sometimes I turn the bass up so I can hear it more…every one of them is amazing. I saw them in November. I was front row and it was the best show of my life. This song was on the play list. One of my favorites.
Perfectly said.. their playing serves the song rather than their own egos. I hadn’t thought of it like that, but you nailed it. On your own time check out for the official video for this.. absolutely beautiful. And lyrically, they are amazing.. especially this song.
Love your breakdown of them as a band in this vid. Don't listen to anyone telling you that you stop too much. Bringing your knowledge to the situation is what makes your opinion unique. You have a sub from me... along with another Jinjer suggestion (since you talked Tati's vocals in the intro) - Judgment and Punishment one take vocal performance. She really flexes her chops in that one and seeing just her and a mic shows how truly talented she is with her instrument (not that we need any more proof of that).
This little band is a gem. You can feel that all four are music lovers. Maybe it is fun to check some older songs like Outlander, Scissors, Cloud Factory, Sit Stay and Roll Over so you can hear and see the perspective and development. How than also, thanks for the interesting reaction.
You should do a reaction to some of their bass/guitar/drum playthroughs. I am not a guitar or bass player, but can't stop watching these guys (and gal) do their thing. Amazing musicianship.
This! Plenty of folks who don't have knowledge to contribute out there listening and making faces. When reactors have knowledge to share, I'd be disappointed if they didn't share it.
Honestly I feel like most of the time I'm not even getting most of my thoughts out! At least not in an elegant way. Hopefully in time I'll improve my ability to express myself better in real time. You guys are all way to kind. I'm glad you guys like what I'm doing. 🤘
Jinjer shines in their live performances. For another epic concert video, react to "Who is Gonna be the One" (Live, Napalm Records). Tatiana was excellent that day and demonstrated why she is one of the best front women in the business. The band also got to demonstrate their exceptional musicianship.
You need to check out some of the early stuff to see how far they’ve come. Waltz is a good one along with Scissors. Both of those are from when they were a five piece and getting their feet wet.
They're actually really cool and very down to earth people. I've met and hung out with them once, Vlad and Eugene are especially cool to talk to with music. I hope you all get the same chance someday if it interests you! Well worth your time.
The biggest education I ever got was all the bands and artists I grew up listening to. That's probably true for them too? Great reaction. Keep em' coming.🤘🙂🤘
Tatiana is just a beast. Had the pleasure of seeing them twice in smaller 1000 people venues. Charismatic Voice had an interview with her about being self taught by screaming into her pillow. Vlad does like to slip in some bossa nova and some songs have reggae parts. He just gets so much sound out of a relatively small kit.
Not sure if someone already commented on this. But yes, it's a custom guitar. Made by OD Guitars. Omer makes several really beautiful handcrafted models. 😊 Ohh... Almost forgot. Great reaction 👍👍👍
Please pause the video as much as you need! Some of us have trouble hearing the reaction unless the video is paused. Really enjoying the channel. I started with harsh vocal bands via reaction channels very recently as well. While I will still delve into the harsh vocal realm, I still lean towards bands with mostly clean singing with harsh vocals sprinkled in.
Jinjer are the only band employing extreme vocals whose music I've spent actual money on (I'm ignoring my couple of Korn albums. Hopefully JD doesn't mind me denying his extremity!) It's Jinjer's composition that grabbed my attention, initially *despite* the extreme vocals (you can tell from my username what my natural tendency goes to re. vocals!). It's *properly* grown-up material, with crazy angular brain-engaging proggy timings yet somehow without losing groove (witchcraft?!), lack of tired verse-chorus-verse-bridge/breakdown-chorus formula, liberal injections of slower very melodic chill passages, top-tier technicality from all 4 of them, & as you say in this vid yourself a refreshing lack of ego which sees them all pulling in the same direction to the betterment of each song. Integrity is paramount to me in music tho, & for me Tatiana drips integrity- I 100% *believe* her when she's up there doing her thing. Also it helps that her pronunciation thru growled sections is always excellent, & her writing cleverly never tries to push too many syllables thru any growled measure.... this adds up to mean that (once your ear is accustomed) you can make out the majority of what she's saying without having to sigh & grab a lyrics sheet immediately like the majority of other growlers/screamers I've attempted to listen to. Her cleans are great tho- she loves bluesy scoops up to & down from target notes, which for me gives a very human feel to the thing.... which in turn balances out the very cerebral, technical, music the lads compose. The fact that she has come up with the parts she has, when you consider she is handed a completed final demo of each song by the boys, & has to find ways of fitting into / sitting on top of big old complex slabs of strange meter heavyAF music (& those contrasting light & melodic passages).... I reckon she deserves more credit than she gets for her compositional skills too! Anyhoo, before this turns into an actual essay!... All the best from sub. no. 446 in Dundee, Scotland! :)
Man, I wish what you just said was what came out of my mouth during the reaction. Everything in that comment is exactly aligned with my perception. I try really hard to express what I'm feeling with some kind of elocution, but it's hard to do live and in real time, in the moment. Especially when a band is as brutally impressive as these guys. P.s. Chris Cornell was a God damn phenomenon.
@@PrymalChaos You speak *quite* well, my friend. You're way better suited to this kind of Toob vid than many who have 6-figure sub counts. When you pause it's because you have something worthwhile to say.... I appreciate the effort with the momentary compressor thing for short sharp as-it's-happening comments rather than tending toward over-pausing & losing the flow of a song altogether.... you've already got a good feel of when to go for a commentary pause & when to keep the flow.... Basically you've got the job nailed, so I wish you luck with the tricky part which is monetising the subscriber base you'll build up pretty quick as long as you stay regular with uploads. If I come across anything I reckon would work for you, I'll ping you with it! p.s. yes, I feel blessed to have witnessed Cornell live. Especially his acoustic solo shows (where he could actually hear himself instead of battling to get a decent in-ear mix over a 120dB ripping band!) - The smaller venues with good acoustics really let him play with that voice. Twas indeed a thing of #Transcendence, & he seemed to really appreciate an enthusiastic Glasgow crowd on those smaller solo shows. :)
Amazing live band, and almost every time I've seen them the mix was absolutely amazing. Festival stage, small club, big hall, spot on, every single time. First time seen them back in 2017, opening for Uneven Structure in a small club in Cologne... they were great, but you could notice that Tatiana struggled with the more "powerful" clean parts, especially in "I speak astronomy" (no way could she have pulled of that bit at 11:30, let alone the switch to the harsh vocals after that. Maybe it was a bad day, but I assume she just get a lot better). Every time I've seen them since, it was absolutely flawless. And the chemistry in the band is second to none. Just the way drummer & bassist work together is brilliant. Add the guitars and the vocals to that and it all just WORKS. Also, just noticed towards the end of the video, I don't know anyone who is THAT out of breath at the end of the show. She's going all in. At some point, I'm not even sure if they even could play any more songs 😂
Re 10:45: Exactly, they weren't headlining, they opened the day on secondary main stage at around 11 am. So naturally the crowd is a bit slow at that time (I was even there, but missed their performance because I still had a hangover from the night before). Also, Jinjer was still more of an insider tip back then, so opening a festival like Wacken in front of an audience of that size was probably quite a big deal for them as at that time they played support for bands like Arch Enemy or Amorphis at venues with capacities for around 1500 to 2000 people max.
It's always awesome to see a band more than matching the energy from the crowd. It shows passion and strength. Believe me I wasn't implying that the crowd weren't into it. Just that you could tell they were beat. And Jinjer were still kicking their asses. 🤘🤘
Super perceptive, thoughtful analysis. Loved your comparison to Music School grad bands that play sophisticated music like Jinger but the musicians tend to overplay and display their chops... to the detriment of the music. This band is an awesome example of elite musicians who avoid that trap. I'm an old R&B / fusion / funk junkie but now I guess I'm part metalhead because these guys kill me. Just bought tickets to see them live in Asheville North Carolina and can't frigging wait.
YOUR reaction is YOUR reaction, screw the people that tell others how to react and take things in. Hell, I don't even react on youtube but if I'm checking something out naturally without any cameras or anything I still might pause it to take things in and process what just happened. All awhile prolonging how long it lasts aswell if I'm really liking what I'm checking out. So yeah, you do you. Pause however many times you need!
It's also a bit ironic about Vlad that everyone mentions that he's got jazz style and classical piano education but he's kinda the metalhead in the band (obviously others are also into metal, but at least Tatiana and I guess Eugene said in some posts/interviews that they kinda moved on from listening heavier stuff in their life), like in interviews he'd Be "I just like metal" or when asked about using piano in the songs he's usually like "no, piano is for different type of music, guitars are the most important in metal and metal is the music I want to play" (not exact quote ofc, but something to that effect). Tatiana even friendly-trolled him a bit in one of the live Q&A sessions because of it XD
I don't know if anyone has mentioned yet, but they are from a region in Ukraine that is known for coal mining. Both of Tatiana's parents worked for the coal mine, and Eugene's future was going to be the coal mines like it is for most of the young men in his home. So basically it was either make this music thing work or go to work for the coal mines. If you notice their band symbol, it represents the tip of a drill bit used in coal mining. You should check out their lyrical video for the song "No Hoard of Value" which is about coal mining. Their background is very blue collar and little hope of escaping that. I guess if you're in that situation and you're hungry enough, you'll learn to play the bass and growl if that's what you need to do to escape
Pressure creates diamonds. Also coal I suppose. It seems much of the band's heritage is steeped in war torn tragedy. Maybe they are the Phoenix rising from the ashes.
One of the thigs that really defines Jinjer to me is their orchestration. As you said, self taught, so they aren't trying to shine as individuals. But there is a great example of that in this song. When Tati is performing that long belt at the end of the calm interlude, the base harmonizes with her transitions, providing alternating harmony and dissonant chords. And it's such a beautiful sound. They do things like this a lot, but this is one of the more obvious ones.
Loving your videos. Subbed today! I agree with going with a reaction from Gojira as well. If you want something super progressive and technical, Opeth is also a great band to listen to. Thanks for the insightful commentary!
Thank you for your highly professional reviews. I think you were able to get right to the point of Jinjer magic. Probably, you would love to review Teacher, Teacher video.
Clad didn’t learn drums to be in kinder... he used to do a project called slam and was a zildjian featured artist in the early 2000s. Open handed minimal kit, master of drums!!!!
Yeah, I really agree with everything you said here, especially about where their magic lies. I think another component of their magic, and perhaps some of the cause of the grit and determination that made them this incredible but without the usual ego and masturbatory over-playing, is where they're from. They're from Eastern Ukraine, and formed not long before Russia invaded. They had to flee their home city and work their way west, literally singing for their supper and playing for their lives. They got good because they had to, because this was their passion and also their means of survival. They serve the music because they have to play what people actually like to hear, not what they think is cool or showy. They literally lost their first (well, technically second, but first published) drummer along the way, to a broken back that left him basically paraplegic (I think he's regained a little function, but not tons). Then a very competent metal session drummer named Dmitriy Kim joined. He's on most of their albums up through King of Everything, which includes Pisces and Perennial. The studio session of Pisces was recorded specifically to show off Vlad and what his style brought to the piece, which I think is pretty transformative compared to what's on the album. Dmitriy Kim is still involved as a producer and engineer, but Vlad is much, much more musical in his playing, owing to his music education. He's taking the band in a more progressive direction, which I like a lot! In any case, great reactions, man!
I love you guys so much. Every comment fills in another small piece of the tapestry. You guys do all the heavy lifting around here. Your encyclopaedic knowledge of these bands which must come from years of passion is generously gifted to me so that I can move forward on my journey. I am a small channel but already I feel like I have a community of giants. 🤘
@@barefootalien Are you giving me a test🤣😂? lainnereP is from Macro. You’re off by the previous album each time. I love Jinjer, they were the last band I saw live in October 2019. Hard to believe it’s been that long.
@@donaldchapman4312 Hah... so it is from the next album! I was just off on the first one. xD I usually just put their entire discography on shuffle, heh.
Ok, I read all the comments and no one is addressing your curiosity about Roman's guitar and since it's the second time you mentioned it, here's some info: It's the Venus 6-string multiscale model (I prefer to call them fan-fretted) from OD Guitars. OD stands for Omer Deutsch, an israeli industrial designer/musician who one day decided to apply his knowledge about industrial design to guitar-making and became a luthier. The indentations on the body don't serve an aesthetic purpose only, they play a key part on the acoustics of the guitar. The Venus comes tuned in B standard but here it's tuned to Jinjer's "new" tuning, drop A (I wrote "new" because they've been using it since late 2015). Roman also has the Rhea, a 6-string standard scale model, which he used for the pre-2015 songs, which were in drop C tuning. In 2019, during Jinjer's first US tour, Omer flew to the States to deliver by hand Roman's new custom Venus baritone, with which he recorded their Macro album. It's the guitar you saw both in the Vortex and Mediator videos. These guitars are not cheap but if you consider the unique design, the range of customisation possible and the fact that they're mostly hand-made, I'd say you sure get you money's worth. 😀
It's funny. My bass player has had a couple of basses custom made (one Status and one Warwick) each cost a substantial amount of money which would raise some eyebrows. However if someone had a violin custom made and paid 10x the amount, no-one would blink. 🤷 Well crafted instruments are worth paying good money for.
Completely agree with your description of the magic of Jinjer! Perennial is about Tatiana's struggling with depression, so it hits me very powerfully. Great reaction as always, thank you! ❤🖤🤘
You should chek any (or even better the whole) Alive in Melbourne live, and Pit of consciousness in Kiev, they are incredible! Every single one of the band members deserve soooooo much more recognition.. P.S. Keep your style on these reactions, its so interactive and truthfull when you pause and commet on the content, dont listen to anyone that says otherwise! :D
Great reaction and love hearing your insights and as a musician know that Jinjer is really great at what they do and another live performance to check out - Which really has to be my favorite is - JINJER - Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev) | Napalm Records
Oh, my comment about pausing is that it's what allows you to add value, like you said. I think most people are here to not just see your reaction but hear your thoughts as well. That said, occasionally I come across a reactor who pauses _so much_ to geek out (especially if they don't back it up before restarting each time) that I feel like they've actually kind of missed the song, if that makes sense. A song is made up of a series of sections, and phrases, and measures, and notes, yes... but it's also a whole, and the flow of that whole matters. So far, I don't think you've been pausing too much, and you've been pretty good about rewinding it. Also, if you ever do feel like watching a song again, like you mentioned in Demolisher, feel free! There are a couple of reactors around who do that on every video, and I think that's maybe a bit excessive, but if a piece is really complex and you think there's more to gain and discover, I have no problem watching a second listen.
Hey Barefoot! Thanks for the feedback. I'm very new to this whole thing, and I just want to make content that people connect to. So far the general consensus is overwhelmingly positive, but I really want to improve and always be pushing forward. I actually altered my setup a little by putting a ducking compressor on the music so that if I speak during playback, it subtly attenuates the song. This way I don't feel like I have to stop as much. I can make little one word or short sentence observations over the music. I think that's helped a lot. It's really tricky to balance. On one hand I tend to get swept up in the music, on the other the longer I go without making some kind of a statement the more the pressure builds. I guess with experience I'll find a nice median where I know exactly where to chime in and with what. Thanks again for the feed back!
@@PrymalChaos Yeah, I'm actually not a huge fan of the ducking compressor... especially when it ducks for a cough or a creak of your chair, heh. I think it's not a terrible idea, but maybe tone it down by about half? (So if you're ducking it to 40%, try 70%). Alternatively, _maybe_ experiment with an EQ scoop in your voice range while you're talking? I haven't heard anyone do that yet, but it might be an interesting thing to try. Lemme put it this way... I subscribed because I like what you have to say about the stuff I've seen _in spite of_ the ducking compressor. I don't know if I'm unique in that, but... probably not. And others might just be clicking away. (Not hating or throwing shade, just honest feedback.)
Roman plays a Venus guitar by OD Guitars. Freaking amazing instruments. And Eugene uses a pick when dynamically it is warranted, he was using one in the latter part of the song.
Cool reaction! They’re a bit different but you may want to check out Dance Gavin Dance. Great vocals and instrumentation as well. Pretty sure they also aren’t from a formal training background either.
I think you would also like Bent Knee. While they did go to music school (Berklee in Boston), they don't go off on virtuoso solos, but make really inventive progressive music. The lead singer (and keyboard player), Courtney Swain, is also phenomenal and unique, with almost a broadway vocal style. Check out their live session recordings for the best introduction to their talent.
Oh please don't missunderstand my comments. I don't care if a musician is extremely highly trained or self taught! One of my favourite people in music is Adam Neely on TH-cam. Insane talent and a music theory and history genius. He is also an extremely good teacher. I recommend everyone to check out his videos. You think I break down songs well.. he is like 5 levels above me. I guess what I'm getting at is that I find just as much value in all musicians.
For future Jinjer songs, rather than prescribe a path to follow down the rabbit hole, I like to kind of lay out some options depending on what you find interesting. For more hardcore but with an interesting jazz twist, check out Who Is Gonna Be The One, Live at Atlas. For more intricate composition and Djentiness, Teacher, Teacher (OMV) is great. For a softer and more intimate side, and a _lot_ of jazz influence, Wallflower (OMV) is an amazing piece of art. For a totally unique and mind-blowing _Reggae_ twist, Judgement (& Punishment) is incredible! Which version is a tough choice, though... The video is thought-provoking and kinda creepy, but Tatiana's One-Take performance is absolutely mind-blowing, and the song had matured a fair bit by then, and sounds incredible. To see Dmitriy Kim playing with them, I Speak Astronomy is an epic video and quite cinematic, or Sit, Stay, Roll Over is probably their heaviest, thrashiest piece before Mediator. I mean... like others have been saying, there isn't a single bad Jinjer song. Even their first published album, in which they had two guitarists and more of a punk rock vibe, is something I listen to regularly. I'm sure anything you pick will get you views and subs. ;)
And I think why their music is so interesting is that when they have multiple options to "solve" a part of the song they do not chose one instead of another but go ahead and incorporate all the variations into the same song (I myself would probably be greedy and would rather have two songs for each idea lol) and the real talent comes in that sense of measure to do it without making 8-10 minute songs (even though in many of their songs there is enough info to make an 8 minute song, just leave some parts being repeated more). And another level is that they first compose the instrumental track as it comes to them and then give it to Tatiana to come up with the vocals (even though there's sometimes no chorus part at all) and probably at cost of great stress Tatiana manages to come up with fitting lyrics and vocal lines on top of that, but really often the music is composed kinda without regard for vocal parts, like on the latest album there's a place that simply triggers me because the vocal goes right over a rather intense riff while intuitive thing to do would probably be to tune down the amount of instrumental info to have more focus on the vocals, I guess it worked out in the end, but damn I really get anxious even imagining what a person would feel given a task to come up with vocals for that music.
Maynard from Tool works the same way, except he refuses to work on a song till the boys have completely signed off on it. Whatever Jinjer are doing, it appears to be working. 🤘
Update! I finally saw them live at Good Things Festival in Sydney. Confirmed!! They certainly can “cut it live!” 😂😂
Mate, not only she can cut it live... THAT WAS THE LAST SONG! And she was still killing it with the voice EVEN WHILE BEING TIRED! She's top tier.
One of a kind!
Behind every great over-night sensation is 10 years of struggle.
Thanks for the info. That actually filled in a lot of blanks!
Dope, thanks for that, makes you appreciate the band and their talent more understanding some of their history and roots.
true, i was on one of their such 30 people small venues back in 2015, at that time i did not know that they struggled so much back then, what a shame, i would gladly help them, if i knew.
@@aerahtv0000 you helped by being there and coming back for more!
@Sense008 Thanks so much for that backstory.
Why DID you stop playing bass? Now I'm upset with you! 😆🤘
Thank you for the amazing comment. Sometimes when reacting to a band like this I feel so dumb because I struggle to find the right way to express what I'm hearing and feeling. I hope in time that I can improve my elocution and live up to great comments like these.
Album is definitely not hard
@@van502 Perhaps just more chaotic and dissonant then. I can hear Vlad's Rachmaninoff in his patterns.
Glad you are enjoying Jinjer! Also cool to see you growing. You are new to the scene but already one of the best reaction channels out there. I watch a lot of reactions for fun, but there are only a few channels I keep coming back to. You can only get better from here! Here are 3 reactions I would love to see.
Jinjer - I Speak Astronomy
Gojira - Heaviest Matter of the Universe
Maximum the Hormone - Yoshu Fukushu
Thank you so much for that amazing compliment. I only hope that I can live up to it! 🤘
All three of those are distinct possibilities in the near future.
I literally discovered your channel about 40 minutes ago, lol.
Me too! Haha
Well the channel is less than a month old, so I'll forgive you. 😆🤘
Saw Jinjer live in Sydney just as Covid hit , phenomenal live band .
They were flawless .
Can't believe I missed them.
They are in a class by themselves.
I may get a chance to see them live here in the states July 15th!!!!! They are performing with Disturbed!!! Wish me luck!
I'm grateful that I got to see them live this past November. They're every bit as incredible as you would expect. Great reaction!
Can't wait to see them sometime.
I'm seeing them live this year, super stoked
I was extremely lucky to get a ticket to their show in Kiev long after it was sold out. They are exceptional live. Absolutely mind blowing. You should thoroughly examine their tour schedule and go to concert. At any cost, literally. It's worth it.
Bucket list item.
I really need to see them live.
@@PrymalChaos You know they´re starting a tour in march with Slipknot? They will also be doing headline shows on that tour. You really should check it out! ;)
Keep Pausing! You are providing insightful content and great reactions!
Thanks mate! You wouldn't happen to be The Cure's Robert Smith would you? You never know your luck on TH-cam. 😆🤘
🤘🤘❤🤘🤘 Hell Yeah!!! Jinjer definitely gets me to follow. Hello from Northern California!!!! 😉❤✌🏼
Thank you!
I just started reacting to Jinjer and music alike. I definitely understand the influx of new people lol
You can tell they came from playing to small rooms. It's abundantly evident in the way they perform. Loved this video.
@@barefootalien That was Hellfest from Home, a totally streamed festival, and I agree they were still a powerhouse for an empty field.
Gotta make it to Canada one day. Always been fascinated.
Nice! You really are falling down the rabbit hole. xD
Actually Vlad is the one who joined the band most recently, previously he played in band called Zlam/Злам.
11:50 oh trust me: you probably will be in the audience during their next tour in 2022😋 just like everyone of us. I've had the chance to see them at the end of september this year, they did not disapoint. And they are able to put on a great show night after night for months, this is impressive 🤯
If you like Perennial, you might want to check out the official music video, it is very nice. (probably not worth doing a reaction though)
Also check out Who Is Gonna Be The One (live) for even deeper growls and energetic Tati dancing 💃🏻
Yeh. I will be there. Also I did notice that there was a music video And I WILL be checking it out! Thanks for checking out this vid!
Не Тати а Татьяна ))
What show did you catch? I went to Frisco and Sacramento and as a long time fan I feel like they fell a bit flat. No energy, no crowd work, her and Eugene seemed to have a lot of tension on stage. She said they forced her to come out to do the encore.
@@charlesfoster9530 oh, sorry to hear that! I went in Reims late october. I guess they sometimes do run out of energy then!
Nothing like being in their presence and witnessing them live. 🤘 Jinjer are among the best live bands I've witnessed in my 55 years.
I'll get there one day.
@@PrymalChaos If your in the USA you already missed their headlinging 2021 tour, I saw them in Florida in Dec. Didn't miss a note the whole show.
I was there at Wacken, and this last song of the set did shine. Back in 2019, the stir around Jinjer started to grow up, and they deserve it so much. Outstanding musicians, and very nice review - kudos 👍🏻😀.
Thanks! Wish I was at the show with you!!
They always developed their music gave it to Tatiana and she would do the lyrics in Russian then translate to English and walla it works pretty amazing.Pit of Consciousness live Kiev is in Ukraine and a great performance.Subscribed like your insights and reactions.Eugene is special on bass and Roman with his riffs without any so called solos is totally underrated,He is outstanding.Who is gonna be the one live Napalm records is amazing you need it
Thanks for the info. The puzzle pieces are all coming together. I can see I'm gonna have a long relationship with this band!
voilà *
She’s Ukrainian not Russian dude
@@xxBONGHUNTER420xx yes and their native tongue is Russian from what they have said
Its impossible not to fall in love with Tatiana. beauty and a beast and the band is so skilled
So good.
you are absolutely right, the musicians are also humble when it comes to music, they see themselves as a band and not as 4 soloists in a band, that's the magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
warm greetings.
maybe next: JINJER - Home Back (Official Video)
Home Back has been requested a bunch. I also understand that it's an important song emotionally for the band. I'll have to do it soon.
Has been a treat following their progression over the years. Their live shows are amazing!
Yes! The bass!! It’s so intricate, sometimes I turn the bass up so I can hear it more…every one of them is amazing. I saw them in November. I was front row and it was the best show of my life. This song was on the play list. One of my favorites.
Saw them front row at Toads Place in New Haven... haven't been the same since lol best live performance I ever experienced
Perfectly said.. their playing serves the song rather than their own egos. I hadn’t thought of it like that, but you nailed it.
On your own time check out for the official video for this.. absolutely beautiful. And lyrically, they are amazing.. especially this song.
Now that I have heard the song I can totally check out the studio version without 'spoiling' it.
I really want to do another one take. That may be perfect.
Excellent reaction/analysis!
This little band is a gem. You can feel that all four are music lovers. Maybe it is fun to check some older songs like Outlander, Scissors, Cloud Factory, Sit Stay and Roll Over so you can hear and see the perspective and development. How than also, thanks for the interesting reaction.
I'm really keen to check out their old material.
@@PrymalChaos Outlander, from Jinjer is phenomenal and shows them with their 2014 line up
You can really hear her development as a singer comparing Breathe to more recent songs.
You should do a reaction to some of their bass/guitar/drum playthroughs. I am not a guitar or bass player, but can't stop watching these guys (and gal) do their thing. Amazing musicianship.
I plan to at some stage. Eugene is amazing to watch play.
11:00am performance on Friday, but for the day recap video Wacken used Jinjer's performance of Pisces. That's how good they were this day.
Keep pausing!!! Your commentary is insightful and interesting. People can always watch the original vid if they want to watch uninterupted
This! Plenty of folks who don't have knowledge to contribute out there listening and making faces. When reactors have knowledge to share, I'd be disappointed if they didn't share it.
Thanks for this. It's always encouraging to know people appreciate what I'm doing!
I'll take a look! Thanks!
That’s a fantastic live performance! I keep the live version on my playlist
I agree and it really shows thier versatility!
I'd love to do interviews as part of the channel at some point.
The biggest education I ever got was all the bands and artists I grew up listening to. That's probably true for them too? Great reaction. Keep em' coming.🤘🙂🤘
Another great reaction , I think my favorite live performance of theirs is Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev definitely check that out.
Small kit, big talent. 😆🤘
jo first, i love this live version, good reaction!
Thanks Henry, kind sir!
Their I Speak Astronomy live is awesome. Her voice in that song is phenominal
Not sure if someone already commented on this. But yes, it's a custom guitar.
Made by OD Guitars. Omer makes several really beautiful handcrafted models. 😊
Ohh... Almost forgot. Great reaction 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Your video at 11:49 "that makes me wanne be in that audience..." I was there and it was a blast!
Jealous doesn't seem to cover what I'm feeling. 😆🤘
That's what I was doing. I liked a mix, but I felt like I was missing out on some pivotal bands.
Thanks for checking in!
Still gives me goosebumps every time!
Jinjer are the only band employing extreme vocals whose music I've spent actual money on (I'm ignoring my couple of Korn albums. Hopefully JD doesn't mind me denying his extremity!)
It's Jinjer's composition that grabbed my attention, initially *despite* the extreme vocals (you can tell from my username what my natural tendency goes to re.
Yes! Of course we're Jinjer fans 😁👍👍
Oh they can seriously cut it live!
Interesting thoughts about ego and magic force of Jinjer. Thank you for the reaction💙
Man I really need to see them live!!
“Who is Gonna Be the One” is my personal favorite. Would love to hear your insight.
Yeah. It's the groove. They have it, you like it, it all makes sense!
Stop all you want. Please. Your insight is interesting.. Not just another generic response...
Thanks Nate! I only hope that I can live up to that compliment.
"Never heard her growl that low before." Someone get this man the links to Who Is Gonna Be the One and Pit of Consciousness!
Edit: I forgot Home Back.
Oh I'll get there. 😆🤘
agree
And you also forgot Vortex. 😉
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
The guitar was made my a small builder in Ukraine called OD guitars. I played one in Chicago. They’re fantastic.
It looks really cool!!
Great job and keep up the great work!
On some level I guess it makes sense. If Vlad played a whole bunch of piano on their music then suddenly they have to tour with a pianist.
They have certainly made a spectacular phoenix from those ashes.
Jinjer is a spectacular band! All Hail Queen Tati!
Roman's guitar is OD Guitar made. They have a site and TH-cam channel.
I think her best low growls are Pit of Consciousness live in Kyiv.
I'd say Home back and vortex at Hellfest.
Hell yeah!
Who’s Gonna Be The One is low low too.
I get to see her live in August!! Can’t wait!!! Tatiana is a little badass!!!
Sit Stay Roll Over music video will kick your teeth in, highly recommend.
I'll get around to it. I think I'll get around to all their stuff. Haha.
Opeth is also on the list!
Very much enjoyed your analysis!
Thanks!
Thank you for your highly professional reviews. I think you were able to get right to the point of Jinjer magic. Probably, you would love to review Teacher, Teacher video.
Soooon!
“But can they…”
Yes. 🖤
They certainly can! 🤘🤘
Clad didn’t learn drums to be in kinder... he used to do a project called slam and was a zildjian featured artist in the early 2000s. Open handed minimal kit, master of drums!!!!
She can cut it anywhere...very rare female vocalist that has the ability to produce the same strength in the studio and live
I was in this crowd. fantastic show
Awesome.
So good! I'm really high on Spiritbox at the moment.
🤘
Perennial was on Micro, not King of Everything. Just putting that out there.
@@donaldchapman4312 Haha, you're right. I dunno why I always think it's from King of Everything... yet I know that Lainnerep is from Micro. xD
I was just off on the first one. xD
I usually just put their entire discography on shuffle, heh.
Ok, I read all the comments and no one is addressing your curiosity about Roman's guitar and since it's the second time you mentioned it, here's some info:
It's the Venus 6-string multiscale model (I prefer to call them fan-fretted) from OD Guitars.
Well crafted instruments are worth paying good money for.
I'll get to that one eventually 👍
The Trifecta of Metal, Hard Rock and Rock: Jinjer, Band-Maid, and The Warning -- all pushing their core genres into the next realm! 🤘 🤘 🤘
I have a simple explanation that works for me...Jinjer IS, quite simply, a musically expressive organism, with four equally powerful limbs.
I've seen Jinjer 4 times already, they never dissapoint.
This show was in morning at 11 o Clock on one of the MainStage
Though you did stop Demolisher early! >_< Never, ever stop a Jinjer video early, by the way... they love false endings.
You gotta do "who is gonna be the one" live next
Cool reaction! They’re a bit different but you may want to check out Dance Gavin Dance. Great vocals and instrumentation as well. Pretty sure they also aren’t from a formal training background either.
I have heard the name before. I'll take a look.
Very cool thanks for the reply ❤️ will definitely watch if you upload!
It's even more telling that this is the last song of the set and her voice sounds effortless.
She is phenomenal
This is a reaction that worth watch. Your comments are really Great! I would love to see your analysis about Sepultura, Ghost, Angra ...
Holy shit! Angra! I used to have an album of theirs that I really loved. Then I totally forgot about them. Time to revisit!
@@PrymalChaos awesome! I'll certainly check that 👏
Drums in metal are jazz influenced. For example, blast-beats, chops, measures etc etc.
Very true!
I'm sure anything you pick will get you views and subs. ;)
Thanks so much for this comment. I will refer back to it when I'm trying to figure out where to go next with Jinjer.
whos going to be the one - is another GREAT live performance that showcase their insane craft.
Vlad is amazing on drums. His technique enhances Tatiana's vocals which i dont think is found in metal or rock too often
He definitely has his own flavour. It's awesome
Great out of the box uni band is between the buried and me. They will blow your mind with the range of tempo and switch ups
Yeah. They're on the list. I'll take a look!
