What's remarkable is that this song was probably unheard before by most at this concert. Hejira being released in November '76 the same month of the concert. And how easily the Band nail it, not an easy one to play.
Joni makes EVERYTHING she does, look so incredibly easy. What a talent. We're so lucky to have her music forever in our heads and hearts. Thank you, Miss Anderson. Love you.
Thanks to sonicboy19 for caring so much about the audio and video quality. It is the least that Joni and her legacy deserve. Some of the Beatles videos have been remastered incredibly well. The images are stunning. We may never see Joni's visual legacy given the same kind of treatment, and indeed it may not be possible in many cases for technical reasons in respect of the sources available, but clips like this one of Coyote preserve the magic for all time.
Sorry Bob Dylan doesnt even come close to this. The story, the melody that breaks right out of contrmporary music, she weaves a personality with story. So original.
She’s not lip syncing. There was another guitarist just playing some chords while she was getting situated. Also with Joni every-time she performed any of her songs she sang it differently, making every performance unique and different. I don’t believe she is lip syncing here.
This is from The Last Waltz, the band The Band’s farewell concert. Robbie Robertson is playing electric guitar. You can hear that the guitar at the beginning is electric not acoustic.
Great band but, after listening to the live version of Joni, there are no even drums, only Don Alias on cogas, but Pastorious and Metheny... this version here is just barely fine, sipkly doesn't walk enough
The drums here seem wrong, out off the 2/2 feel. It's Dylan' band, they don't play in the same league as the guys you mentioned. Pat's playing in the Shadows and Light version is very interesting, and Jaco propels the groove.
I only knew the album Hejira, and thought that she improvised a bit when singing. I was very surprised when I saw the movie, to hear Joni singing exactly the same thing with that prom band behind her.
@@ofdrumsandchords Well NOBODY really plays in that league, lol. Plus Michael Brecker and Lyle Mays, the band Joni got for that tour OMG! and she, kind of autodidact and all... her singing and playing doesn't fall short at all in that company, you can see the joy in all of them, legendary!
My goodness, that is a fantastic live performance. I didn't appreciate Joni when I was a college kid in 1971, but I sure do now, as I push age 71.
She is an incredible songwriter!

A genius at work. So original and at ease in her craft. Too good.
this has gotta be the best version of this song ever performed right
Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, Lyle Mays, Don Alias - LIVE in 1980
@@garagedancer122Shadows And Light, esp the DVD is a MUST have!
Rick Danko was in such awe. Can't blame him.
I love joni so much i am a prisoner of a Freeway
Favourite song, and performance, of all time…. Magnificent🌹🌹🌹
The Last Waltz must have been the best ever Going Away Party, and aI missed it.
I just love Joni Mitchell. And she's melting the stage on this one.

Goddess at the mic

What a unique, unusual and mesmerizing performer!
Beyond brilliant. Joni - love your music…
This song draws me in like a magnet
I tried to run away myself
Runaway and wrestle with my ego
i've listened to this every day for 3 weeks a stupendous work of lyric/musical art
Her songs are so smart-Warned a young teen about those pesky Coyotes and all sorts of of other flags

Уникальна!
Incredible song. Written about Sam Shepard.
A stone cold assassination of a "coyote" occurred on the Rolling Thunder Review tour.

Thanks, thousandfold thanks for sharing all these wonderful Joni Mitchell videos!
Yes! Thank you for this
Meravigliosamente unica!
Maybe her best song. Definitely her best album. The Shadows and Light version is even better.
She has about 300 candidates for "best song".

Danko watching a unicorn in the woods.
I think this is lip synced. If not, why does the guitar start before she she starts playing. But maybe I'm missing something.

Sure. It's impressive that the Band managed to play the song at all !
