Old school nascar was wild. No wall between the pits. Cars went through the guardrail, the hole was just left there. Next to no in car safety equipment....
Nascar needs to go back to its roots, REAL CARS!!! Best part about the old days was anyone could build a car and enter, made for alot more interesting racing. Love the upload
You see the crash where the car broke the guardrail and went off the track? NASCAR won't allow that anymore, and like it or not bless the modern safety standards for the sport having no deaths in the three national series after Senior died
This is beautiful... Hey NASCAR, how about add the 1979 Southeastern 500 at Bristol Motorspeedway. You have to have a lot more archival video of that race that has been released in Documentaries of Dale Earnhardt. The 1979 Southeastern 500 at Bristol Motorspeedway is the race that Rookie driver Dale Earnhardt got his first career NASCAR Winston Cup Series win in just his 16th start. Please release all the official video that NASCAR has of this race. Thank you!!
Joe Weatherly was my old shop formans uncle. He was shocked that someone my age knew about that generation of racers. Old folks here in SC also talk highly of Tiny Lund and Fireball Roberts
What was the rationale for guardrails in the turns but concrete along the straights? Did the banking make it too difficult at the time to put up solid concrete barriers? The radius of the turns? The first couple of years the guardrails did a reasonable job given the speed of the cars but it didn't take long from them to become useless. I'm surprised more guys didn't get impaled..
I used to watch these races when I was a young teenager. Much better racing and the drivers were definitly not corporate drones like the present day drivers (?). I think Dale E was the last of the old school drivers. I don't bother to watch the current batch playing follow the leader.
102 MPH! crazy how much it’s changed. I’ll take this NASCAR over today’s.

As a petrol fired race driver the last nickname U ever want is "Fireball anyone", hahaha.

They can't do that. And you will never see it.
They tried that and many drivers died, not worth the risk
@@Thomas-ib9iu plus the cars we have now are super strong the body's are more fatter and safer.

Herb Welch is narrating the Southern 500
them deadly guardrails...
Yeah - don't bother to fix the holes.
Why should they? They didn't stop a single car anyway.
Man, how did they all just walke away. Holy cow!
This was real, rugged racing.
True racing. Drive what you can buy at the dealer.
Were there any 1958-59 Edsels in NASCAR?

Ze guardrails ze do NOOOOTHING
Auto Racing Safety Equipment. Dat A.R.S.E.
All you needed was a car a hat and you could get in the race if you qualified
If you don’t have a last cigarette before the race starts are you really serious? 💨
Back in the day factory tires and pretty much everything is factory other than a souped up motor run what you brung
Who cares about guardrail repairs :)
My face when literally nobody has commented = :/
Uploading something in 4k doesn't do much if it was recorded on a potato...
Brenden Lauer are you serious right now
@@grizzlygaming8857 He can't be serious. This quality is damn good for 1958.
Still looks like 240p in 4K
