Nesse som ele manda rimas, versos e palavras quebrabas.

The detail that I love the most about this song is one of the verses right at the end when he says "Não vai mais pra escola, na rua bebe cachaça e cheira COcaína" wich has a rhyme that leads you to believe that the kids are huffing glue (cola) but he undercuts your expectations and goes with cocaine. Like slim Charles said:"game's the same, just got more fierce"

Goony, as an american Rap fan for over 25 years, I can tell you it's like Racionais is our NWA, while Sabotage was our 2pac. this album was published 7 years ago, 13 years after his assassination, using his old acapella recordings that were never released, by his old time brothers and sisters, like Negra Lee, a real OG.
now, what I really want to point to you:
notice how Sabotage emphasizes the "AW" sound in different places in the words near 9:51, some in the middle of the words?
this was recorded in the late 90', before Andre3000 did the same thing in his verse in Aquemini that shook the world.
Sabotage was really great, super lyrical, graphic descriptions and tons of slang. trust me, most brazilians can't even understand what he's saying at all.
love the videos, keep up the good work.

I loved when you mentioned NY State of Mind as an similar song, it's really cool to see a foreigner, specially from the US where hip-hop was born and where the greatest rappers came from, recognizing tha value of brazillian art and artists.
I feel like if brazillian hip-hop had worldwide projection, such as US hiphop, Racionais, Sabotage, Black Alien, etc, would be just acclaimed as Wu Tang, Nas, Mobb Deep, Ice Cube, and etc.

Google didn't translate correctly. It would be "Canon was so good" he is referring to his neighborhood, Canão, where he was raised.
But you spoke the purest truth! Sabotage really has this underground rap style, Talib and Mos Def, and really, anyone who likes Rap has an obligation to listen to the Black Star album. hug! Brazil loves you brother!

It's very difficult for a gringo to be able to understand what Sabotage says in his lyrics without an interpreter by your side giving you context for every single line. He was awesome, he was the first brazilian rapper to talk about sexism. The way he talked about women in his lyrics is with so much respect, and in his time this debate was something that didn't even exist yet. He was ahead of his time.

Brother, very good your video, Brazilian rap still has a lot of gold for you to hear. About Sabota's music, it is difficult to listen to in Portuguese, because he doesn't simply speak Portuguese normally, he changes the tonalities of the words to make them rhyme better, not just by matching their natural sound, but by modifying them so that they sound fluid. You have a great talent, keep doing your runs! Go ahead and succeed!

This song is pretty hard to understand for anyone, even brazilians, because Sabotage brokes so many of his verses, he was a huge poetry fan, but it's FIRE for anyone who grew up in the hood back in the 1990s/early 2000s like myself, especialy if you are black. Sabotage, great in Brazilian Rap.
A magnificent poet, in my opinion, a wizard with words. Popular culture mixed with influence from all its universe, from the shack in the favela to the world. A mix. Uma Embolada de repentista (poetic tradition of northeast Brazil) having existence as a theme and São Paulo as a scenario.
And that's it, Sabotage is complicated to understand, as he builds his poetry using a lot of slang, figures of speech, associations of ideas, references, making it difficult to feel the full depth of his art.
Afterwards, if you want, watch something by Bezerra da Silva, another great Voice of Brazil

You explain it in a very good way.
    Another dope video

Hi goony thanks for ur reaction for this masterpiece, idk if u gonna read this but let me say something about this song.
This song "Canão was so good" it is about the slum daily life, since poverty facing a family with just a mom and kid who might be everything because the lack of basic stuff, even he saying about the girls of the hood saying they're gorgeous, but there is some points we need point to it.
This song it was the last recorded song by sabotage before his death and it was never finished that one version you've saw it's a remastered version made by ganjaman at the posthumous album of him. The original version it was discovered in 2012 and got a "harder vibe" because at the record we can feel this song as a goodbye. This chorus about having "haters wanting him dead" and prhases like "he got off the crowded subway suffered slaughter and in his pocket one joint" about when his mom showed up to him and he said the bigger end is closer and his mom ask him to pray as soon as possible. It is a clear message of goodbye and how he was fucked up thinking about that and how he knew he was about to get killed.
I've seen something saying that time it was last time he came at studio and never was finished because it was schedule to some weeks later to record the finale version but he had no time. very sad but a masterpiece.
There's a lot to say about the lyricism too in that lyric, how he cutted words connecting the rest of a word with the next one things today can be very sudden but for his time and in Brasil nobody rhymed like this and he was one of the biggest names for this details in lyrics the new school rappers has now.
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO SORRY ABT MY RUSTY ENGLISH (IT IS MY THIRD LANGUAGE HAHAHAHA)

Sabotage was a straigh up genius, according to Daniel Ganjaman, Sabotage would always show up with his little notebook and would just spit going with whatever beat was playing.
Ganjaman is one of the best producers we have in hip-hop, man, he produced Sabotage, 509-E, Racionais, Planet Hemp, Criolo, MV Bill, Negra Li, among others.
Goony, I know you probably have a list of songs to react to, but you need to include Kamau in it if he isn't already. Specially the Non Ducor Duco album, it is something else.

Hey bro, very nice video! It's def very interesting to see a foreigner's perspective of some of Brazil's lesser-known repertoire. Most reactions are of the same 5 national artists.
I think it's really cool how you always make that connection with your own culture as well, feels like your videos are a great place of cultural exchange! Glad I stumbled upon this channel, can't stop watching your content.
One quick question: do you think it's possible for you to put the name of the artists, albums, or songs you mention on the description box or something? I feel like I always wanna search for them after but I don't want to keep pausing the video.
Thanks, man! Keep up the good work, I'm excited to see how your channel expands

Mandarin is a slang term used in rap (and in some places in southeastern Brazil, as far as I know) to designate small and closed eyes due to the use of Cannabis. It was one of Sabote's nicknames.
Canão was the hood of Sabotage, today it no longer exists, practically all the favelas in the region joined in one mega complex throug the Roberto Marinho Avenue in South São Paulo.
This song is an ode to the Canão.
Please react to Shawlin, Cachorro Magro, Quinto andar e Subsolo!

An interesting thing that you don't hear because you don't understand Portuguese: in the final part where the singer says "cocaine", he almost said "glue". It was common in the 1990s and 2000s for street children to sniff shoe glue to numb themselves. There is even a small article online, from 1996, in Folha (Brazilian newspaper) entitled "The killer glue" that accuses the manufacturers of these glues of making them with the aim of addicting these children, because the cans of the product were small enough to stay on these kids' purchasing power and the smell of the highly addictive stuff for any kid. In Portuguese, "glue" rhymes with the previous word in the song "school", but was replaced by "Cocaine" in order to rhyme with "this is what life teaches us", which came next.
