    I could listen to Mary Hopkin's voice all day. I love this song, and it wasn't even that big a hit in the U.S.

    This transports me back to when it was played regularly on my mom’s radio in the kitchen, along with Goodbye, Those were the Days and Motown. Such lovely memories of my childhood evoked by a song I haven’t heard in 50+ years. Like finding a message in a bottle, you posted this 5 years ago, it reached me today on a cold winters day in Canada.

    So lovely to find this song again
    and the beautiful Mary Hopkin
    singing it. I have carried this
    song in my thoughts and in my
    heart since the day I first heard
    it. I'm 60 years old now and it
    brought a tear to my eye!
    Thank you so much for uploading 💖

    This song came in to my head for some reason and i searched for " Ding dong in Bremerhaven " because i thought that was the words to the song - but then i had a vague idea that Mary Hopkin was the singer and voila here i am in Temma Harbour swaying in a coconut tree ! Awesome xx

    Today I saw an advert for "A Christmas Chorale" by Mary Hopkin, which made me search for this song, that I remember from when I was very young! What memories of carefree times

    Just rediscovered this song today, didn't recognize it by name but did as soon as I heard it, I was 6yo back in 1970, happy days
    Thank you for this video and for taking me back.

      Me too. I've not heard this since 1970. was watching a documentary on Pan's People and they danced to this and all the memories came flooding back. Mum and Dad (now both gone) and my sister watching TOTP on a Thursday night, dreaming of the wonderful life I was going to have...and did!

      Mine too. "Those Were the Days" was good, but for me, this was even better.

  • @Bradford1able
    @Bradford1able 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I so loved this when it came out as I think a follow up to Those were the days.
    I think it was met with a little disregard after such a powerful and well loved song as TWTDays. The words and beautiful melody played on strings is so poignant. If you like the song search for Pans People dancing to it. It's B&W but so innocent and enjoyable.

    • @tryton111
      @tryton111  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Goodbye" was her follow up to "Those Were the Days". Then came "Temma Harbour". It may have met with a little disregard in some parts of the world, but in the UK it made #6 and for many, it remains their favourite Mary Hopkin single.

  • @mjones4083
    @mjones4083 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This lovely song was released in the UK in early 1970 and climbed into the lower end of the top ten . I think it then got somewhat overshadowed by the build up & release of Knock Knock Who's There there which was Mary's single for The Eurovision Song contest that April . If Temma Harbour had been released after Knock Knock - in the early summer , then I think it would have charted much higher and be better remembered today .The song has a lovely summer feel to it .

    Such a beautiful song. Thanks for including the lyrics. BTW...The song is referring to Temma Harbour (more of a water inlet than a harbour) in 'Tazmania' where there are lemon trees. Not Tema Harbour Ghana where there are none.

    Always loved this song but here's an admission. Until I saw the comments I always thought Temma Harbour was a little fishing village in Wales and that was why she was singing it! Its in Tasmania and there goes any plans to visit Temma as it is in another country. Oh well..we live and learn and it's never too late to rearrange your thoughts!

      I heard that too. Apparently Tony V saw the name on a map of Australia and liked it. Tasmanians I know all say the place is nothing marvellous.

    • @tryton111
      @tryton111  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a different "Temma Harbour" Robbyne and spelled differently. Mary Hopkin is singing about Temma Harbour in Tasmania. The one you have fond memories of is spelled "Tema" with only one "m". Still, I'm glad to revive special memories for you.

    I always loved this song though it didn't make top ten here in the US. TWTD was a huge hit but I'm the only one I know who bought the LP when it was new.

      I think I'm the only one over here who remembers her appearing on an early talent show as a kid. I can't even find reference to her doing it - but I am sure of my facts.

      Then can you trace down the holy grail with Peter Noone as Stanley Fairclough in the soap opera Coronation Street or in the television series Knight Errant, Family Solicitor and Monro’s Saki Stories?

      This is great! I've seen the Davy Clips a number of times and he's on The Beatles DVD @ Ed Sullivan - their first appearance - when he was doing Oliver. I was searching for the full Corrie episode with Peter but I figured it was long gone. This is better than nothing.
